'26 PSU Transfer CB AJ Harris

#26

Harris logged 25 tackles, one pass deflection, a fumble recovery and a safety in 2025 with the Nittany Lions, and he will now join the slew of Penn State players who plan to hit the portal.

Harris began his career at Georgia before transferring to Penn State, logging 34 total appearances, including 26 starts, between the two teams.
Can he be a Nickel? We have our starting CBs next season.

There’s obviously talent there. Kirby doesn’t usually take duds in the DB room. It’s all upstairs with this kid. Could he find it here?

I don’t care if it’s this guy or another DB, but I’d move Redmond to nickel.
I think Redmond can play anywhere we need him too. But he’s absolutely our best cover CB. Regardless Harris has ability and he knows the system.

What’s all upstairs?

He was honorable mention All Big Ten last season.
Let’s just bring him in and see what happens

Was benched and a lot of PSU fans say he kinda quit on the team. Like I said, super talented. If he can buy in, I’m good with it. Just don’t want another Boo situation.

Did you forget about Rickey Gibson?
Did you forget Rickey Gibson suffered a major injury and we have zero idea how well he'll recover from it?

I'm good with taking 2-3 CBs and letting them sort themselves out. Never know what injuries will lead to. Feel the same about safety. There's a severe need to retool the secondary. Yes, we have some players, but iron sharpens iron so I'm good with bringing in competition.

My point is saying “Redmond is absolutely our best cover corner” is an absurd statement given how well Gibson played in 2024. Also has experience in 2023.

So 18 teams with 2 CBs each makes Honorable Mention the 7th-10th highest rated CB in the conference at best. Pass.
36 starting CBs
3 All Big Ten teams.

So 7-8th best in the conference. IDK.

Perhaps Willie Martinez can help if he’s still around.

It was an arm injury. Gibson will be fine by spring practice.

A healthy Ricky Gibson isn't as good as Redmond.
One made All- SEC as a freshman.
The other doesn't have an INT in 2 seasons as a starter. Gibson is good, but some people have this weird idea that he's this superstar for some reason.

I don’t think this is a “do whatever it takes” guy unless you’re just looking at his HS ranking.

Harris totaled 33 tackles this season but allowed 23 completions on 25 targets for 286 yards and two touchdowns, per PFF. Harris earned poor coverage grades down the stretch, include a season-low 43.0 against Rutgers to close out the season.

If follow PFP closely they’ll very openly tell you that their grading system is far more volatile on the perimeter and you’ll frequently see even elite corners post incredibly low grades because of the nature of the position.

We definitely take AJ Harris
Add him to Redmond, Gibson, JT Theodore, and we got the workings of some good CB play.

if Merritt is still at CB then he would factor in as well. Personally I think now is the time for him to maybe work in that 3rd safety role in Knowles defense.
