The Escapist : News : Latest XBL Exploit Takes Aim at User's Credit Cards

Im guessing it was just people who play MW2?

From the quoted article:

Also, it seems Modern Warfare 2 isn't the only game that hackers are using to access user information.

"I was de-ranked and my points are now in the negative in Call of Duty 4," XBL user PIOAKADRAMAFREE wrote. "I had a 55 gold cross [rank] and my score on the leaderboard was 55k. After getting hacked, I have a 1 gold cross and a negative score. The player and I exchanged private messages and within those messages he demanded that $10 be paid to him through Paypal to unhack my account."

I'm sorry, but anybody that values their "55 bold cross ranking" and their score on the leaderboard enough to even consider paying money for it seriously needs to get a life. If the extent of the XBox hack is the ability to strip players accounts of accumulated points, who gives a damn? That's a far cry from the ability to rack up fraudulent credit card transactions.

i can honestly say that the terrible storms that have affected many here on vn and in this country really puts this whole issue in perspective...

Xbox definitely does have its share of cheating and hacking too.

I was playing some MW2 on Live a couple of days ago, and there was a guy on my team who got the final kill cam. He was instantly snapping to players and getting headshots. Ever play against Veteran bots in Black Ops, and watch their kill cams when they magically kill you? This is what this guy was doing. Then the final score scored popped, and he was 27-0.

I know for certain there are cheaters on PS3, but I've never seen anything that blatant.

Glitching a shooter and taking down a network are a little different.

You'll get banned pretty quickly using an aimbot in a shooter like Halo or COD on a console.

Yep I reported him. I'm assuming by today he's already gone.

I honestly doubt it. When a game is first released a compant might pretend to care & punish cheaters while they create a patch here & there. After a while nothing happens. Mw2 has been out a while.

I got the double whammy on him. So if Activision/Treytarch doesn't do anything about it. XBL might.

That's another nice thing about Live.

FBI investigating PSN hack; Sony looking into compensating users

"To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio," SOE said in a statement. "We are also working on a 'make good' plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms. Details will be available soon on the individual game websites and forums."

The same goes for PSN as a whole and streaming service Qriocity. Seybold said that Sony is "evaluating ways to show appreciation" to users for the downtime, but specifics as to how that will be done are currently unavailable."

Think this "make good" plan will actually happen? What in the world can they do? Give everyone some free credit at the PS store?
