Ps4

Is using headsets in gaming a "thing" now? Never before have I noticed so many people spending so much money on headphones. Do you guys not have home theaters? Is there some kind of tactical advantage to playing with headphones? I'm amazed and how much money some people spend on these things. I can understand using them If you're playing at a desk on a PC or something but if you're in your living room, you could buy a halfway decent Home Theater In A Box set up for what some pay for a set of head phones.

You aren't married, are you?

Yes I am. I just play with the volume turned down to a respectable level. Our bedroom is at the opposite end of our house from the living room. If she goes to bed, she just shuts our bedroom door. You can't hear anything from the living room as long as you don't have the volume cranked way up.

I'm thinking about cord cutting and using Hulu Plus in my living room. That means my PS4 is going to be getting daily use now. Do you guys think it's worth getting a <$100 bluray player to handle the increased load so I don't stress the PS4, or is that silly? After suffering a recent YLOD on my PS3, I just don't want to run this thing into the ground before I can get my money's worth.

I would guess that would depend on how often you plan on watching BRs

I would say I watch about one bluray a week. I'm more concerned about the streaming apps. Is 2-3 hours a day of Hulu/Netflix/etc going to be too taxing on the PS4? I realize we have no idea just how robust these things are, since they've been out less than a year.

I remember something about Blurays being tough on PS3's, because they can't cache the data like a game does, so the motor spins the entire time you're watching a movie. So if that's the only concern, I think I'll be fine. Most blurays I watch in the bedroom on the bluray player.

I wouldnt think that streaming at any amount would be too taxing on the system. Disc use would

I still have my original PS3(the very first model) as my blu-Ray player. It's held up all this time. It saw daily use as my game console until I bought the 250 GB version. It gets used quite regularly still.

I played BF4 last night on XB1 and then decided to flip over and play it on PS4. The game is noticeably better on PS4 IMO. I know this has been discussed, but it really suprises me every time I notice it.

I'm still a PS4 fanboy on this gen. We will see if Titanfall can close the gap.

I will eventually purchase a XB1, probably towards the later part of this year purely for the entertainment center aspect of the system. The sequel to Titanfall will be on the PS4 as well, so PS4 only users will eventually be able to have the game.

Yeah I haven't ruled out an X1 but for now I just don't see the benefit of it for the price, especially considering that it's being out performed by the less expensive PS4. I don't think MS will ever take Kinect out of the box, so I'm just waiting for the first big price drop and to see if MS is committed to releasing a library of compelling exclusives. I couldn't care less about apps, NFL Fantasy League, or any of the other "fluff" that MS likes to pad their console with. I'm a gamer and that is priority 1 for me. Plus as a gamer I just don't appreciate MS' design approach to the X1. They sacrificed the X1's system performance as a games machine because they prioritized the Kinect and the multi-media all in one approach over power. I think the PS4 is just a much more elegantly engineered piece of hardware and more optimized for gaming performance. Sony had better focus on what matters IMO.

Regarding Titanfall, I can wait. I'll let Xbox and PC gamers beta test it first. Then when the sequel comes out on PS4 I'll jump on board.

Microsoft stated the other day they don't anticipate the Xbox One will ever be without the Kinect.

The "fluff" is actually pretty awesome content IMO. You cant discount the multi-media awesomeness with the system, but I agree that as far as a "gaming" machine, it falls short of the PS4. There is definitely a customer base that the XB1 makes more sense to. Their integration of tv, movie, and ESPN are all excellent selling points for the system and are reasons that I will eventually purchase one.

I'm not saying that some of that "fluff" isn't nice. No way in hell would I ever choose to sacrifice system performance to have it!

The TV integration feature is completely superfluous IMO. I don't see how simply clicking a button on my receiver remote to switch from my console to my cable box is any less convenient or slower than saying "Xbox TV."

I do admit that I'm jealous that Xbox has the ESPN app. I hope that eventually comes to PS4. PS3 and PS4 are finally getting the HBO Go app so that's one less that Xbox has over Playstation. If PS4 can get ESPN I'll be set. With it, Netfilx, and HBO GO I wouldn't need anything else apps wise.

The NFL Fantasy thing, I can see how it would appeal to some. It just doesn't interest me. I'm not into fantasy leagues.

You would if you have ever lost your remote and looked for it for days lol

The TV integration is pretty cool. I love being able to use Kinect to "watch CBS" and it goes straight to it or pause tv or whatever other command you can use. But on the other hand, after two weeks I just couldn't deal with it anymore. It would randomly freeze and then lose the signal. And I have Uverse, so if 2 others in the house are watching HD then it'll kick off someone. Whenever I would switch to SD, the signal completely froze and would take 5 minutes to get the signal to stream and that was only after switching back to an HD channel. I do think it's a great feature. It just needs some consistency.

I love my Xbox One, but a part of me wishes I had gone with the PS4 due to everyone talking about how superior the console is with games, which overall, is the main selling point for my console. My TV already has Netflix/Hulu built in, and I own a 360 that has ESPN. So there really wasn't that big of an advantage. Titanfall looks really great, but I could live without it in exchange for Infamous. I was never really big on Halo or Forza series either. So honestly, exclusivity never had much impact.

Maybe one of these days I'll consider selling my One and go for a PS4. Don't really see the justification of owning both next gen systems.

New Sony VR Headset??
