PS4 VS Xbox720

Basically any game that retails for the full $60, GameStop sells used for $55. I'll applaud any effort by console makers to encourage (force) consumers to pay the extra $5 and allow the devs to get a cut of the sale for their efforts as opposed to letting GameStop pocket $30+ of pure profit for doing nothing other than fronting a few dollars of store credit. Like I said, good for GameStop for taking advantage of the market and making a ton of money in the process, but also good for MS for at least making an effort to make sure the money for game sales ends up in the correct hands.
I disagree with just about every one of your points. We will just have to agree to disagree I suppose. The second a game is sold at retail, the developers have absolutely no claim to any money that the game will generate as a used game.....absolutely none. I have bought several used games that retailed for 60 and 6 months later would sell for 30-35.

It will end up being a major detractor for me, if true. I've picked up several used games throughout the years that have dropped way more than 5 bucks from the regular retail price once those games had been out a few months/years.

I'm not saying the devs have a claim to the secondhand sales. I'm saying what GameStop does discourages consumers from buying the game new and cuts down on overall sales by simply recirculating copies that have already been paid for. I'm all for console makers doing everything in their power to help move more units of their games. In an ideal world for devs, the secondhand market would be eliminated entirely. I doubt we'll ever see that though.

Whether MS does this or not wont effect me one iota. I flat out refuse to buy used games from GameStop because I see them as nothing more than a middle man who makes a huge profit off of games they had nothing to do with the creation of.

Not at all. I've said several times in here that whoever came up with GameStop's business is a genius. That said, their model screws over devs because within 10 feet of each other you have two essentially identical games, one selling for $60, the other for $55. Of course most people are going to save the $5 without really thinking about what that money is going towards. I don't see why people are so offended by MS taking measures to protect their devs from this happening.

Wasn't 100% serious with my last post.....or was I? Lol anyway, quote me on this, if MS decides to go the route of preventing used games to be played on their consoles, the PS4 will absolutely destroy the Xbox in sales and it won't be close at all.

I honestly dont know anyone who pays 55 for a used game, when they could pay 5 more for new. Youd have to be pretty dumb to do that. Sure every once in a while theyll be someone do it. If i had to guess, after the end of the final cycle, gamestop maybe avgs making only 8-10 dollars. If that. Plus. I know a ton of people who buy used games there, play them a week, then trade back in for full refund. They just get a ton of business because theres no other place (besides amazon) that you can trade games in.

I will agree whoever started gamestop is pure genius :)

The more I think about it the more I'll actually be surprised if this comes about now that Sony has said they won't be blocking used games. Do you think eventually we'll see a day where devs have enough pull to get this done on all consoles? That's who this type of decision would ultimately be for. I can see why anyone would be hesitant to be the first to jump in on this idea, for fear of getting crushed, but if all consoles did it simultaneously it could work.

I really won't believe it til I see it as far as MS doing it this year. As far as the future, who knows, but I would lean towards higher online pass fees if I was betting.

Most people I know that buy recently released games pay the full $60, and developers are helping this by offering one-time codes for DLCs (weapons, outfits, etc.). If I buy a used game, I'm looking for a cheap game to keep me entertained for a while because there's nothing new I want. I don't game enough for most games to be worth $60. I go on a two week blitz a few times a year for Uncharted, Assassin's, or Arkham, so the $4 copy of Fallout 3 keeps me gaming when otherwise I'd probably just stop altogether.

I buy lots of games for a song from eBay and Craigslist (trades included) . Acting as if gamestop is the only secondhand market is retarded.

Really? Ive looked a few times on craigslist, but i reckon around here no one really puts video games on there. Ill havnt looked in a while though. Ive only ever traded games on amazon and gamestop. But i dont buy too many used games

I've always been a PS2 > Xbox, 360 > PS3 guy. But if this happens, you can bet I'll only spend money on the PS4. It's not those "week after release" used games of $55 that I ever buy, it's the year old or more games that I never got around to playing that end up for $19.99 or less on the Gamestop shelves that I relish the opportunity to eventually buy.

Every game I anticipate with a passion, I plop the $59.99 down for it brand new. But if I have to pay for a license to play a used game, or can't do it at all, then I'll be buying the PS4.

I guess it's just different for everybody. The used games thing makes sense for people who play a lot of different games. Personally, I literally play at most 5 different games per year. I always buy the yearly versions of COD, and FIFA. I'll also buy Grand Theft Auto and Halo games in the years they come out. Also, each year I'll wait a few weeks, read some reviews, and then make my decision on whether or not I'll buy that year's NCAA, NBA 2k and Tiger Woods. It's probably been 5+ years since I purchased a game other than the franchises I just listed. Playing games months or years after they are released is something that I simply don't do, so blocking used games won't affect me. I can see how some people would be pissed.

Yes, I can't remember the last time I bought a sports title used. Madden, NCAA, 2K, FIFA, if I read up about those games and get hyped up enough for them I buy them at release. But I also really like RPG, adventure, and strategy style games that despite being dated, are still fun to play 1,2,3 years down the road because there aren't yearly iterations of them.

If the whole 'cloud' thing would be a little more robust and cost-effective for dated games or a limited number of game downloads were available in a yearly/monthly online pass, I could probably get over the used game thing. But when you see that 2-year old full game on the Marketplace for $30+ when you know you can run down to Gamestop and pickup a copy for $10, I'd be hesitant to purchase a system that made that an impossibility.

1- Jack Tretton told Pachter they definitely will not charge $599 again.

2- Thinks the PS4 will launch at $399.

3- Strongly thinks Kinect 2.0 will be bundled with 720 and make it more expensive than PS4.

4- Thinks everything on PSN will be behind a paywall, except multiplayer.

5 -Feels certain The Last of Us will have a PS4 version.

6- Talked to Sony about Agent, Sony's words: "It's still under development".

7- Nintendo's not going anywhere. Can go 20-30 years losing money like they are now before being in trouble.

The kinect is neat, but price point should be paramount with a concurrent launch.

That said, I'm 100% waiting a year before making a move either way.

From the sound of all the talk (right now who really knows) is that MS is focusing on the kinect integration and really going the route of making a media hub instead of a real gaming system. Not sure if I will go with either on release, Ill probably change my mind 10 different times before then.
