something i've wondered about as far as a "benefit" of a PS3 being the blu-ray player. that's always been thrown up as something that makes the PS3 better than the Xbox. I have had my PS3 for probably 4-5 years now and i have never watched a blu-ray movie. with so many people these days streaming movies/tv and this downloading of movies from the interwebs i've heard about, my question is this: how many people really consistently watch blue-ray movie?

I own a standalone blu-ray player and I will continue to buy the discs for as long as I'm able to. Streaming content is great, but what happens if your internet is down? Also, I like all the extras that come in the package. Blooper reels, cast commentary, and so on.

if the internet is down, just don't watch a movie. my experience at least is that if internet is down more than likely power is an issue too but i get what you're saying. i've never been one to sit and watch all the extra stuff they package in these things but i'm sure there are some entertaining things in there

I have both and use both often, its really night and day with some titles...... i.e. COD and also NHL. Just my opinion though I suppose

I go blue ray whenever possible. I can tell with the picture quality. And some of the features are interesting.

I think the blue-ray player in the ps3 is much better quality than the DVD player in the ps2. That thing would only play brand new discs. It couldn't handle anything rented. I've never had a problem with any movies on the blue ray ps3.

I have owned a 360 since 2007. I bought a PS3 last April. I love both of them. However, I rarely ever play games on the PS3...I mainly reserve the gaming for the 360 and watching movies on the PS3. Having a Blu ray player is great. I'll buy most of my games on the 360 except for the couple of exclusives that the PS3 offers. Online has minimal to no differences, like others have said. I do agree that PS+ is better overall due to all the free content and full games you get.

I'm torn between which next gen console to get. Probably depends on what my friends decide to do.

Streaming is nice and all but it is no comparison to watching a blu ray in full 1080p fidelity and lossless surround sound. Once you've become accustomed to blu ray's quality, streaming just doesn't cut it anymore.

I watch about 4 movies a year, and they're all downloads. I'm bigger on the story than the picture and the sound.

You must be primarily a Call of Duty and EA Sports gamer. Otherwise I don't see how you not play all the great exclusives on PS3.

i'm about the same, i'll either stream from my computer or watch something on netflix or amazon. in the past i bought tons of dvds but many of them i've never watched more than twice. i just don't see in these days spending $20 a movie to watch a handful of times. plus i'm like you, i'm not watching with surround sound and a 1080 tv with an HDMI is going to give a solid picture on it's own

Don't have the time to do a whole lot of gaming anymore, but I'll be getting The Last Of Us. That looks like an awesome game.

Hey have you played The Walking Dead series? If you're a fan of horror games, that series is really good! It's broken up into 5 "episodes" and it's available to PS Plus subscribers right now for 10.00. It's a fantastic game at a fantastic value!

Not the original article I read, but has most of it. In the one I read it had an exchange with the Bioware guy and Orthy was asking why would people want to live in Virginia or a few other places that had inconsistent internet.

I just don't like the idea of not being able to play if it's not online. I don't see the point. Games can be played just fine while not online if you're not wanting multiplayer.

i realize online play is where these games live and die and being always on probably wouldn't make a bit of difference in the grand scheme but if their biggest reason for doing it is to keep more $ in their pocket and can't at least make up a better lie to blame it on they might just be shooting themselves in the cock
