This isn't a thrashing thread...I just want to know everyone's opinion about the two new systems, well, new to xbox i guess.

I recently just received the YLOD on my ps3 that I had for 2+ years. I'm deciding if a new ps3 is the way to go, or should I sell everything and convert to 360 (i have more friends that own 360 than ps3)...

Let your opinions and options flow...:hi:

here we go again...if you have more friends on 360, your decision is a pretty simple one.

no, i was just talking about the ps3 and 360 debate. they are the same core systems as they were and since you have the ylod, your gaming data is gone anyway. you have to start over no matter what. if you have a ton more friends that play on 360, thats the way i would go. i mean honestly, how many of your old ps3 games are you really going to play much anymore anyway?

The new 360 has the fastest wifi on a console. It comes with 250 GB HD. Ready for Kinect (if you decide that's something you would want). 1080p 5.1 surround sound. If you have more friends with 360 it probably shouldn't be that hard of a decision.

True...and there is a way to backup my data from a ps3 after it hits ylod. YLOD rarely effects the HDD...most of the time it's the chips on the mobo.

the only way to back up your gaming info is if the original unit can be repaired. if it cannot, it is lost. only the original unit can read the HDD. when mine got the ylod, it was the mother board that was bad. it was going to cost $150-$200 to fix. it wasn't worth it imo. some can be fixed for $25-$35 if it just needs to be re sotered (sp?).

Disappointed this isn't a thrashing thread.

Sorry, I was more wanting it to be "what everyone thought about the new systems thread" and a "point me in the right direction" thread. Got a little info on the new xbox, nothing on the ps3 and a direction to the 360...looking decent so far.

don't get me wrong, the ps3 slims are great. they run so quiet you cannot even tell its running. it's basically the same system as the fat tho. like fanboy said, the 360 has some add ons, but nothing you cannot get with the ps3 (except for the surround sound...not sure about that). if kinnect if what you are after, move is going to be cheaper more than likely. jury still out there.

As for the data issue goes all u have to do is get a USB flash drive & backup ur data every now & then. I got the ylod a couple months ago & not all games lose data. For instance when I got my new ps3 & popped in MW2 everything was the same. Same level, all my weapons, everything. When i popped in my hot shots golf game I had to start over from scratch. I think some games store info on their server & some rely on the hdd. All ur downloads are available for re-download as soon as u sign back in for free as well.

you kept all your prestige in multiplayer, because that is thru iw. your single player was gone though. hotshots online is integrated with the single player. you have to unlock certain items on single player to play in some online tourneys.
