posts such as this one do no good. We need to all get behind the new coach, cause this is gonna be a grind at best.

Shows how little you know about Washington st. Look at their record prior to Leach

Leach is a good , effective coach. He has an unusual personality and might not have fit in. Will this new guy be a Kirby Smart or Derek D. ? Only time will tell. I am still trying to understand how Vol Football fell off a cliff . It is mind-blowing if u think about it. NC in 98 to winless in the SEC. How does that happen without sabotage?

This poll feels wrong. Didnt vote, afraid it would taste like sour grapes.

Leach has been my favorite football coach and personality for years.

I love the guy. Desperately wanted him to coach the vols, ten years ago, last year and certainly post schiano.

But i dont think we were actually that close to landing him. The currie/leach meeting was an eleventh hour desperation, "fire me" sort of gesture. In practical terms it had all the impact of H.I McDonough spitting that tooth at Leonard Smalls.

I don't even think Currie truly believed it would go through at that point.

I knew it wpuldn't happen. Knew something would screw it up, it seemed to good to be true.

In full disclosure, I will admit my desire to have the pirate captain in knoxville is something of a vice. A liability. I like Leach to the point almost as unhealthy as those Lyle lovers that wanted him to get "one more year, to hold together that top 5 class, and get a chance to turn it around."

Leach may not have been the answer. I hate the concept of "fit", preferring a mantra of "just win, baby"... but "fit" is where Leach fails and he's certainly a polarizing character.

I will say this.

Given the choice the package deal of Fulmer/Pruitt is 100,000 times better and more appealing than a Leach/Currie combo.

So, I'm really happy where we are as vol fans, no matter how much I love Leach and his offense, we are better off today, and I couldn't be any happier with the way things turned out.

So glad Gruden is dead to us, and Schiano is working a destination job. We dodged a few bullets to get where we are, and I truly believe Pruitt was the best choice available, once scott frost was gone.

He’s improved them quite a bit but don’t act they were an abysmal program with no conference titles ever in program history. He’s brought them back to a consistent level of some of their sporadic success in past decades. He’s not a game changer and wouldn’t be here

They went 8 years without a winning season before Leach got there.

They won 9 games in the 4years prior to his arrival. He's won 9 in a single season multiple times.

Washington State has finished 2nd in the north division once, 3rd twice during his tenure. Yes they sucked prior to his arrival but again I will reference my post you quoted, under Mike Price they won 2 conference titles (beating Pete Carrol coached USC teams) and went to the rose bowl twice. Under Bill Doba they had one good season but finished top 10 that season beating a top 10, Mack brown coached Texas (when they were worth a crap). So I still say what I originally said - he has brought a more sustained level of success similar (but again, more sustained) to the sporadic success they’ve had in the past. It’s not like he took a program over that had never been worth a crap ever and is doing miraculous things. He’s a good coach but IMO wouldn’t have met the expectations here - which is a 9 win season floor and in the CFP hunt annually. CJP may be a total bust as he has no record to reference whatsoever but only time will tell. You and I will likely just agree to disagree on this one :hi:

Just looking back at this poll to see what everyone initially thought of the Pruitt v Leach hire. Leach had a nice opening day in SEC football. Yes, although I wasn't on board with Pruitt until middle of last year, I do think we did ok with Pruitt. Sure would have been a fun ride with Leach, tho

Still think it’s just LSU being down, as opposed to the other. But great offensive mind

9 wins are the floor??

We unceremoniously fired and hate on a daily basis the last coach that led this program to 9 wins.

LOL You Leach guys cool your jets. There is no way LSU is the same team as last year. I believe they returned 3 starters from last years team. SMH Leach is more trouble than he is worth. Just sit back, relax, and watch what happens off the field.

My reservations about Leach in the SEC weren't really about his offense...it was about his defenses. Yes, his offense was incredible, but they also allowed 34 points and a ton of yards through the air. Rush defense was good though.

It's just one game - let's see where he ends up after a 10-game schedule, and against a team that isn't as decimated as LSU.

SEC defenses will adjust to him pretty quickly, IMO. He is a very talented coach, no doubt. But, I also believe be benefited from it being the opening game. He deserves a long and well executed tip of the cap for yesterday’s win, but I’ll hold out a few more games before anointing him king of the west.

Yeah LSU literally lost everybody. Not that big a deal.

What has Mike Leach ever won? How many trophies does he have? I love the Pirate, but he has a ceiling. Pruitt is building this thing the right way. I wouldn’t change it.
