Pruitt talks offensive struggles

Most of us, myself included are very fickled,

we can't seem to wait for things, like wins to happen, we have to have it right now. If we don't get what we want, we like to complain and look elsewhere for the results we want. We have been on this Merry-Go-Round

for some time now! I think we need to except that we will not get what we want if we do not have the patience to let this staff put together a team that will remedy our problems.

Did it come as a surprise to you when CJP stated that Bama had more talent than us? I would think most football fans are well aware of that fact. What was his point in saying it?

CJP needs to coach what he has in way that will allow them to be successful. Maybe he can only coach well when he has better players than the other side...
You people are morons that think that these coaches that have been at this for years can’t teach or don’t know basic blocking by the OL.
We started the year with a bad , no talent or too young for 4/5ths of the line , lost the starting center and now the one good one we had. What we have now have to pick their a$$ up from 5 yards in the backfield every play from 1 on 1 blocking

I bet you loved both of them until the day they were fired.
Nope.....I hated Dooley the moment he was hired but hoped for the best.....I was ok with the Butch hire but it didnt take long to realize that he was nothing more than a used car salesman.

Wrong. I put the blame on both. But these mental mistakes are on players. You learn things like blocking, catching and tackling in middle school. Then those same things are taught in HS. By the time you reach college, these simple techniques should be entrenched. But we see our players, through the last coaching regime and this one, suffer with these simple things.

Is that coaching? Some of it, but not all of it. Also, I have heard Saban echo similar to what Pruitt does about players so there is that.

So I am curious, at what point do you personally hold players accountable?

Rarely...

Wonder what NFL lineman work on daily? New plays? New technique? Nope. They work on fundamentals. Stuff they were working on in Middle School.

Poorly coached/practiced fundamentals bite you in the ass at every level. In the defense of this staff and any new staff, fundamentals often suffer as new schemes, new language and new techniques are taught simply due to the fact that you are limited on time to practice. However, at this point the newness is gone and we should begin seeing improvement. While others swear they see.it, I dont.

With regard to Saban, I honestly dont know what he says about his players but he has history on his side and players, parents and fans are going to buy whatever he is selling. Jeremy Pruitt can say exactly what Saban does but he cant point to anything that says his system/plan actually works, thus not getting total buy in from players and leading to the results we see happening.

IMO CJP should ignore questions that have anything to do with talent and for damned sure not point out that talent is the current problem when asked a question not related to it.

Is it just me or does JP seemed resigned to the fact that theres no hope for this team. Watching his interview at halftime and at end of game, he seemed extremely depressed.

Wasn’t it like last week how we all said how good offense looked and bad defense looked?? Wow... you guys are ridiculous how fast you forget.

When that happens against Bama and UGA type teams you have a point. When it happens agaisnt t teams if equal or lesser talent one has to start looking elsewhere for the problem. Namely the coaching staff.

And if they can only coach well when they have vastly superior talent then I'm fairly certain they arent great coaches.

And I'm sure they know what they need to know. What I'm not sure of is they do a good job teaching it to their charges.

And every staff that has ever been fired in D1 football also knew this stuff for years. And yet they failed to teach it to their players at a level that allowed them to be successful.

Call me a moron if that makes you feel good but if the teaching by this staff doesnt improve Then we will likely never beat the UGAs and BAMAs of the world. Because we may get as much talent as them but we will not likely have vastly superior talent than those type teams.
I hope the staff get it figure out before next season is over or some of you fellows are going to be really offended at things being said about them.

The Jones era left us with a "project" OL. We did not recruit well there with the two best being Richmond (not performing) and Smith. JG might make good pre snap reads and deliver the ball fairly decently but between the snap and throw he is oblivious. He doesn't have the "it factor". It's going to take at least 2 years to get the OL straightened out, so that is what it's going to take to build a program that is competitive.

He has no idea how to coach 3 star players. All he has ever coached is 4-5 star players. Spurrier brought Duke in here and beat Fulmer. It's not always about the Jimmy and Joes. Did Duke have equal talent with UT ?

I agree he has coached at a machine everywhere Hoover , Alabama, FSU & Georgia. Some coaches are like Barnes in basketball can take leftovers and turn them in to champions and sprinkle in their recruits. Pruitt has never had to do that anywhere so this may not end well. I, like everyone on VN hoping we struck gold but we shall see. I at first seen parallels with Fulmer but Fulmer had coached at a bad Vanderbilt and Wichita State. Also the coaching search was a disaster but we all still have a glimmer of hope. Let see progress these last 3 games and maybe take 2.

Exactly.

Are these the players (the one's he's calling out) the same ones he's going to be calling on, in a few years, to come to campus and help him celebrate the successes of his re-build ??

Suggestion, to Coach: 3 more games, Coach -- just coach them to score more than 6 offensive points, and hold your tongue about current (lack of) talent that YOU didn't recruit (+ play KC, since YOU did recruit him) !

You clearly see only what you want to see. We have been throwing the ball down the field more and more each game. We had a long touchdown tonight again. And as far as triple coverage on that pass play you don’t know what you’re talking about but it fits your narrative best. When he threw the ball it was one on one and the defender fell down making Palmer wide open. JG was hit as he threw it and it stayed in the air for 4 seconds they said. That allowed other defenders to get there.

I hope he can turn it around but not impressed with the start so far. I don't like the putting down of players by saying wait until I get my guys. These are your guys, you signed up for this. I think his defensive staff is ok but the OC and line coach are below average. I base that because the line is not getting run over as much as guys are coming through because they are out of position or bad technique. That's coaching to me.

Everybody talks about "Jimmys and Joes." It appears this team has some "Curlys and Moes."

While we need more depth on defense we are getting better there. Our problem is 95% O-Line, we simply have to be stronger there. On both sides of the ball actually, but the O-Line is way subpar. Like I have been saying this is a trenches league, you have to be able to win your share of them battles or it doesn't matter what type of skill players you have. We have enough skill players on offense, we don't have enough big uglies. We have to get bigger players who are committed to getting stronger in the trenches, it's just as simple as that. GBO!!!!

Volhoops makes a good point.
CJP is incredibly insulting to the young men on HIS team and that’s not right. This is HIS team. It’s the team he agreed to take several million dollars to coach through this season. When he publicly belittles HIS TEAM it only makes him look kinda sad and pathetic.
He can do that in the locker room if he needs to. He can do it one-on-one in his office as much as is necessary but not to the press and public. There’s a lot of ways to discuss a loss and accept the responsibility without quite so much belittling of the players on HIS team.

Your just like butch’s players, they see a name and assume just because it’s not a “big “ name school they can just walk out not worry about playing hard and get an easy win.
When you’re lined up across from a guy and he’s pushing you around all day like you’re a little b**ch, if you have the ability, you would think instead of getting up off your a$$ all day you would get mad and regardless of coaching and knock him on his a$$.
They can’t do it, why the he/: can’t you see that!!

The line play is bad because the players upfront aren't big and strong enough especially on the O-Line. No amount of coaching is turning around this O-Line in the first year. It didn't help our 2 biggest most experienced players are now out in Kennedy and Smith. Our S@C should be the one everyone focuses in on in the offseason. We have to recruit bigger guys and guys that want to continue to get bigger and stonger and commit to it. But please don't go blaming the OL coach, our O-Line has been getting pushed around for 10 years. Jones went with smaller O-Lineman and that simply does not work in the SEC. See Georgia,Bama and LSU they have hosses in the trenches. Until we get bigger and stronger upfront we won't win consistently, and for that to happen we need to give this staff time to recruit the kind of player that can actually have success in the SEC. He knows what type of player that is, Jones nor Dooley did and that is a fact. GBO!!!!

It's his first coaching job where the talent wasn't there when he got there and just had to maintain. Fulmer needs to advise him to not put down HIS players. You can say we missed assignments or anything else but to go on TV and say wait until I get my guys is disgraceful.

He is telling it like it is, if the players can't take it they need to move on. We aren't strong enough in the trenches, especially the O-Line. 1 year isn't enough time to turn that around. Our O-Line is beyond weak, and it has been several years of coaches taking linemen that had no business being in the SEC. If I was Pruitt, I wouldn't give out a schollie to a lineman unless I was convinced he can play competitively in the SEC. Pruitt isn't a whiner, he has what he has upfront and it some recruiting to shore it up. Now there may be a few like Carvin, who has the body that he will improve. But O-Line and DL is where we need the help and depth and no coaching can cure that overnight, we are weak and slow upfront that is just a FACT! GBO!

He’s not telling it like it is, he’s whining. If he was telling it like it is he’d mention the piss poor job his coaches are doing.

Dude this line would be right were it is if saban were coaching it. We simply do not have guys that are strong enough and quick enough to do the job. Some of these players up front have hit their ceiling, it is what it is. We don't have quality depth either to lean on when injuries arise. If you aren't strong and big enough to block upfront in the SEC you aren't going to win if Lombardi was coaching. To say it's the coaches fault is just way off base, this is 95% simply a not strong and big enough problem. Our D-Line has some players getting it done but even there we just don't have the depth yet. Bottom line with a average offensive line we would be much better off right now and this is basically what Jones left us with, undersized not strong enough and slow offensive lineman. And no coach is going to fix our O-Line woes overnight, especially when we have no where near enough depth at this time. GBO!
