Pruitt not happy with Spring Game attendance

Charger, I enjoy your posts. I was just responding to it because someone else has taken affinity to my posts. I don't post much over in this forum but had some time to kill.

The ironic thing is that I am a positive fan. I like Pruitt as a coach. I wasn't offended- I just didn't think he needed to make that statement. You can see what kind of controversy it created. Our fans will show up, especially if you do your job. They have shown up when some coaches weren't doing their job. It's pretty simple.

To a degree he doesn't "need" to say anything.

Your last comment is why it doesn't matter when any coach does talk. Had he gone into the crowd after the game taking pics, signing autographs, and kissing babies it shouldn't and wouldn't matter either.

Calling out fans who should have been there but weren’t. How do you misinterpret that? It was just a dumb thing to say for a coach that should count his lucky stars to even be here.

Yep. I want him to succeed. I don’t care if he’s a jerk, just don’t be a jerk to the people who bust their butts to support the program and put in countless hours and money to support the team.

If I’m Fulmer, I tell him to issue a “clarification” on what he said and to not address the fan situation in anything but a positive manner again.

This day and time "motherhood" can cause controversy with a whole lot of folks. They are just looking for ways to argue and be indigent. Seem like sense the ability to hide behind a keyboard, many more people use that ability to show the "chip" on their shoulder.

Well, Jerry Green talked himself into a firing. It can matter.

I agree though that I tuned out Butch. I didn't care what he said because it was a common theme. Pruitt is honest, so what he says probably does matter because it's what he believes. I know he wants excellence, and he will get it. Our fan support is not a problem. Just didn't think the spring game was a time to say that.

Ref. statement on "people around Knoxville"....

As there are a lot of college towns or baseball towns or any other sports team's towns.
In those towns there are many more people who don't give a damn about a particular sport (many more than do) or the "home town team" and never even look at scores. They cuss the traffic caused on game days, wonder what a winning celebration is all about.
As I stated earlier in another thread, I flipped to the Bama game some. Their "huge" crowd was not that much "huger" than ours or many others.

Yeah, I said in a later post, I thought we had a really good showing, all things considered.
Just not offended that he wants to be the best at everything.
His statement just wasn't that big of a deal.

True. I am partly not on other social media for that very reason. But his comment was more likely than not going to generate some buzz. I am not a fake outrage person. I just didn't think it was something that needed to be stated.

Yeah Pruitt, take a look at those numbers. The fans buying the tickets that pays your largely undeserved salary are really lame, huh. Dude, you are not getting off on the right foot here.

He deserves every penny and more. He’s a top 6 defensive mind in the country. Saban, Smart, Pruitt, Venables, Brown and Muschamp are in a league of their own in college football. He changing a culture right now. It’s going to be hard. The team is soft, not very good, and don’t have great attitudes when challenged or things get hard. Sounds like our society. What is wrong with Pruitt wanting every player to be their best on every snap and wanting his program to be the best?

But every American male can do two things...grill and coach football. I’m sure you all know more football and what’s better for the team than Pruitt.

The stuff I read on here when people talk about football just makes me laugh but I probably don’t know anything because I don’t have many posts.

His full quotes wasn’t bad at all. Get over it, in 4 years we will be hoping he doesn’t leave for Bama. He will win here. Too good of a coach, too good of a staff, and enough resources finally.

Maybe, he meant to create a buzz with it, just like he needs to put a fire under some players, he obviously needs to light a fire under some fans also.

I agree, CJP needs to chill out with the fans. He won’t win them over unless he respects them and what they have done over the years.

yep, that definitely is a sword that cuts both ways...I didn't think that 63K or so (as was reported) was too shabby...

GO VOLS!

You showing up last year doesn't help the team this year, get on board or cheer for vandy.

Not sure what that means. We sold out LSU with an interim coach. When you improve it, we will come. History has said so.

And that's not what fans for a championship team does, do we want to be champions? Then we need to show up like champions.

Did we play lsu yesterday, was there 102,000 there? Then there is room for improvement. Quit feeling entitled just because you have been a fan longer than he has been the coach, he has done more for Tennessee football in the four months he has been there than you likely have in your life.

I never tuned in really. What Jones, Dooley, Kiffin, Fulmer, Majors.....say doesn't hold much water in an ultimate decision.
UT basketball and UT football are very different. If Pruitt is winning what he says won't matter. If he goes down the Dooley/Jones path it won't matter either.

This is where he is going to have to grow as a head coach. Hope he learns from it. Sometimes it’s better to not say the first thing that pops in your mind. He probably didn’t see it as calling out the fans but fans are not rational in the SEC and he knows it.

I've got a feeling based on his time in GA and what little we have actually seen from him here so far he will have plenty of opportunities to learn.

There are going to be some games where his team is going to be seriously humbled this year, I hope he can walk the walk and actually handle it. Worrying about how many fans showed up isn't a good start.

Everybody was happy when coaches and players were establishing a new culture and were saying if you don't like it then leave, but now that you as a fan are expected to do your part you want to act like, he is some new college grad being your boss at work. Pathetic entitlement attitudes from some of you.

What was the attendance for the spring game in 1998? Was it any different?

I agree in the regular season. Alabama didn't have the largest attendance this season. Aren't they the champions? The spring game is a whole different animal.

Attending a game is a state experience. Spring game is a scrimmage.

if he has a problem with "some guys" then he needs to tell them in private. I didnt like his attitude. No one wants to hear that negative crap. We've had enough of that.

Bama had 75,000 fans at their spring game in a town of 99,000. Tennessee couldnt break 65,000 in a city of 850,000. Still want to compare? The turnout was pathetic, as a fan that has never lived close enough to go to a game (went to one game in 99 when my family was given tickets)I could only wish to be there in attendance, yet there are some "fans" living within spitting distance that couldn't be bothered to go watch a free afternoon of football.

"Some guys" won't be here much longer.

He's not getting paid to make everybody feel good. We just fired a guy that thought that would work.

He'll survive or fail on Saturdays in the fall.

The rest is a soap opera that everybody should be well over.

Georgia - 82,184 ... Bama - 74,932 ... Vols - 65,098 ... Gators - 53,105

The two teams that played for the National Championship and then us ... he honestly didn't think we were going to hit 90k plus ?

“Our fans today were like our football team. Some were here and doing great, some weren’t here for legitimate reasons, and some should have been here and weren’t. That sounds just like our team.”

No reason to be on him about this for he is spot on. He might be a hothead but he says what he thinks and none of the bs cliches as the last joke to roam the sidelines. He is what this program is needing not a damn sugar coating bser but a coach.

Charger!

Good to see you, man. I was telling Behr the other day, you were the one person I hadn't seen around since I got back.

I'm glad to see you apparently got over that bad genital herpes outbreak you were suffering.

Just kidding. Maybe.

:hi:

You’re thinking about the Purdue player.
