Pruitt not happy with Spring Game attendance

Good to see Pruitt making friends and influencing people... sheez

65k for a team that went 4-8 last year is a phenomenal number.

he wants the fans to know that the team wants their support...i don't see this as something to get fired up about in a negative way

this guy has major upside and i'm ready to give him plenty of room to learn to be a had coach and to figure out how to make this team successful

The people complaining about CJP's comment will be the same people complaining when some of the recruits there today commit elsewhere.

And before I get some response like kids do not recruit based off attendance at a spring game, imagine if today Neyland was rocking like a home game in September.

Maybe CJP should have kept the autograph session

I look at this way Pruitt was flat out pissed at this team. Some of the kids quit and are getting ready to have their butt hurt. No wonder we went 4-8 last year! He’s got my support!

I'm kind of on the fence on these comments by Pruitt. I will say I was there and I enjoyed the exhibition, comradery with fellow fans and seeing some progress from the program.

First, I completely agree with what he's trying to do with the program. Demanding results from players, staff, and fans all alike is a recipe for success. Yes, even us fans.

On the other hand, it seems to be a little misplaced and maybe just a bit tone deaf. This fan base has been through a lot over the past 10+ years. There's a fatigue regarding coaches and what they say versus the product delivered. Plus, factor in its a spring game and it's not exactly the best viewing lens that fans have of the program or players. It didn't feel like a game atmosphere today, and I think the admin could have done a little more to promote it up to drive interest, both before the game and during.

People have been using that we have been through a lot quite a bit to defend us for some reason. Well time for us to stop moping and get over it. Every fan base has been through a lot at some point. We had a coach that would try to make you feel better and we all hated him. Now we have someone that will spew truth.

Plus he didn't take shots at fans, that was message to his players. I took no offense from what he said.

He wants excellence. Not criticizing a guy who wants more. We have been stuck in mediocrity for so long we don't know what hard coaching looks like. We used to have Germany Dooley up there letting Bray sling a beer bottle or two around and still get to play.

You think Pruitt would allow that?

In regards to the team, I agree. I'm glad hes a no nonsense coach. However regarding the fanbase, he doesn't coach us! We are not the ones on scholarship here. We are the supporters who pay money to come cheer the team on. Some on here are talking like WE somehow need to be coached up like the team does! Theres nothing wrong with our fanbase that has to be "fixed!" There's been a lot wrong with this program over the last 10 years but fan support isnt one of them.

Can't treat the fans like the players. You lump them together as Pruitt did it's a bad PR move. If you want to call out the players and be brutally honest about some dead weight that needs some serious pruning, I would be especially judicious when and where I took my swings. Tough love and players keeping their dignity is a fine line.

The crowd, which was decent, didn't deserve that.

I didn't like hearing that. I have my own reasons for not making that drive and overnite trip. But, I won't hold it against him.

Oh yeah, dear SECN, the next time you schedule a softball game leading up to an SEC football game, how about moving the softball game over to the stupid-azz alternate channel?! Especially a game that is too far gone to matter.
ESPN stinks.

Jeez. Did you even read the whole quote and not the Wes Rucker Fake News one? Basically, all he asked was if you could’ve come and didn’t, why didn’t you? That’s it. But people love being petty and media people love clicks.

Top 5 nationally is better than "decent."

Just wanted to slow you down a bit, seems like you were losing the battle and the war on this thread.

There is no battle or war to lose only differing of opinion. If he wins here, noone will care, if he doesnt this stuff will speed up his departure. Its pretty much that simple.

To be honest, my frustration now isnt even with what Pruitt said. It's with those on here who are already drunk on the Pruitt Kool-Aid saying...

"yeah by-god I'm glad he's honest enough to call the fans out for not showing up! Buncha no good bandwagon jag offs!!"

So if you claim that those who got mad at what Pruitt said are misinterpreting his words, so are the coach worshippers who are staunchly defending them.

Larry Coker is a NC winning coach in your (and Google’s) world. When you’re dealing with that fun fact FACTUALLY, you know it was Butch Davis’s team and the assistant’s COACHING that put his name on that “list”. At least you admit you’re a slave to literal computer servers. :good!:

You should reserve you comments until you have something that makes sense.

You must have a hard on for my posts since you continually quote them...

You must be a little man behind a big keyboard and if I'm wrong, which I hope I am let's put this to rest.

Meet me at any gym, with any weight training exercise you want to compete with and we will go with it. I'm not some keyboard warrior, you send me your email and we will work it out. If you beat me I donate 10k to the university. If I beat you then you donate 10k. We will facebook live it for who ever wants to spectate.

How big a boy are ya?

If not stfu

Im running the Marine Corps Marathon in oct, see you there.

Pretty cool to be challenged to a dual after posting an opinion on a message board. Lol

Enough people carried Pruitt's quote to be very close to word for word:

“It’s kind of like our football team, for the fans,” Pruitt said. “The ones that were here, I’m proud they were here. They’re fired up. They’re ready to get going. OK? And then there were some people that weren’t who that had legitimate reasons. They couldn’t be here. And there were some people that weren’t here, that … why weren’t they here? It’s kind of like our football team. I think we all need to look in the mirror and see who we want to be.”

Pruitt's always been a fiery person and I'm sure most of his mistakes have been when he's going 100 MPH. But the HC job won't allow a lot of that and frankly, he's not the DC anymore. Much like Muschamp, he will need to quickly shut down that assistant coach sideline demeanor.
