Pruitt IS the guy.

And Pruitt was not part of the previous ten years. It took ten years to get to this point.....it's not going to get corrected in one season.
Point is I took yalls advice the first 10 years and this is what we get. Maybe you don’t know what the $@$@ your talking about.

Instant gratification? Did I just dream the last 10 plus years? For 10 years I’ve been told to be patient, here we are 10 years later in exponentially worse shape than when I was first told to be patient. Yes, this fanbase is a bunch of instant gratification whiners.
Don't think he was referring to everyone. We all have been more than patient, we haven't had a choice but to be. When we get a coach that has a whole new staff with players with different skill sets from the players that are needed for their style, it is going to take a lot of patience. Can't have it all right now and a lot of people want wins right now. It didn't matter who took over this team it was going to be ruff.

Did what we witnessed Saturday suck? Absolutely. Do I question whether we will win an SEC game this year? Absolutely.

Many of us wanted to believe that the 4-8 record last year was simply due to Butch Jones' awful mismanagement of the program and somehow the moment we got a real football coach in here, we'd win again. We overlooked the fact that the SEC isn't what it once was in the 90's and early 2000's and truly believed that we'd be back sooner rather than later. I for one fell for the preseason idea that we could easily be 4-0 at this point in the season. The thing is, Jeremy Pruitt took a job that nobody in the country wanted. It's hard for many including myself to come to grips with that fact, but it's reality. A dumpster fire administration coupled with a talent lacking football team made this job very unattractive to many, but not Jeremy Pruitt. He has stones. We saw it when he went for it against West Virginia on 4th and Goal, and we saw it with the onside kick on Saturday. Regardless of the results on those gambles (1/2), he's showing us already the culture that he is building at Tennessee. The losses suck, not having talent sucks, but give this man the time you gave the previous coaching staff and 5 years from now we will be winning the East.
Thank you Mrs. Pruitt. :p

I don’t care about the win. There was no excuse for what we saw saturday night. Sloppy, uninspired football riddled with basic mistakes against a crappy Florida team. No ones asking for it all right now, y’all need to quit perpetuating that as the other side of the argument, it isn’t.

That's your and the OP's problem, you equate skepticism with pessimism, and that's just incorrect. And declaring that Pruitt IS the man goes beyond optimism.

Our problem?! Ok..

And for the record...I never stated Pruitt was the man! I liked the OP’s optimism and spirit...

You can't make chicken salad out of the other end of the chicken.

Let CJP get a team of his recruits in here and then we can judge.

Not directed at you. Just an opportunity to share this thought by your post.

Threads pro or con for CJP aren't about judgment right now. They are about confidence in our coach. We all hope he's a superstar. But after more than a decade of hope & hype from UT, we're just burned out. Still fans. Still love our team. Just looking for something...anything...to give confidence that this rebuild will not be in vain like the previous 2 or 3.

Im all good with 3 years. What concerns me the most though is just how sloppy we are. It's odd. I think the d is sort of ok I guess. He needs to get someone to run the o. There are ways to compensate for weaknesses and im not buying the whole we dont have good athletes.

I don't think Coach Helton is going to work out here, if it were me I would already be laying the ground work to bring Hugh Freeze as OC.

I agree. We need to build stability with the program, and I think Pruitt can get us there.

The first thing we as a fanbase need to do is accept that we are at Rocky Bottom and stop expecting 8+ wins right now. Once we temper expectations, we will be more open to three or four bad seasons, as long as ultimately, we right the ship.

Can Pruitt do it? I certainly think so. He has received nothing but praise from his previous players and other coaches. Bobby Bowden didn't need to go out of his way to make supportive comments about Pruitt. Look at Stoops at Kentucky or Mason at Vanderbilt. Traditionally subpar programs, but given that they allowed those coaches the actual time they needed to right the ship, look at them now.

I -expected- 5-7 this season. Obviously we look even worse than anticipated, but five is still possible. In reality, we'll likely go 3-9. It's just going to take time. We may go 5-7 in year 3, but (and as terrible as it may sound), we need to accept that we were in the strongest conference in football with other teams getting better around us... but it's going to boil down to signs of improvement and the quality of our losses. In year 3, even if we go 5-7, I would not at all support blowout losses. As long as we shows signs of improvement in competitiveness, then I'll stay on board with Pruitt. If not, then yeah, maybe he isn't the right guy, but we won't know that until 2020 at the soonest imo.

Like I said he wasn't talking about everyone and you might not be in that side of it. I just want improvement also, I can live with that. I am not attempting to change anyone's mind on what they saw Saturday. Just saying patience is going to be needed to allow this staff to get players in to be competitive again.

I ask again. What in the hell has he done to warrant this type of faith?
What had Phil Fulmer (was an OC), Lane Kiffin, or Derek Dooley done before we hired them as a head coach? Fulmer made an impressive run with a pretty talented team and was a UT alum --So he gets more of a pass.
Butch Jones had won at least a conference title in his league. The reason to have faith is that this guy gets what its going to take to play championship football. Our roster does not have that. He wants to change that and in meantime take what is here and try to make it better. He's got to get a few classes of his players. The players he's got so far that are seeing playing time (Banks, Taylor, Thompson, Flowers) have all shown some pretty good flashes. I trust his evaluations. In 2-3 years we'll be ready to compete with the top tier. In the meantime, please join the rest of the clan on this board that is making our fan base a laughing stock.
THIS WEEK IN SCHADENFREUDE, Vols have ‘nothing left to burn down’

We only need about 15 more of these threads and everyone will be convinced.

Nothing in the op points to proof that CJP is the guy. Having "stones" doesnt make anyone a great /good coach. Fact is noone knows how effective jp will be as a head coach.

Like it or not he is our guy. Tennessee is soft Pruitt is not. We don't have the OL or the DL players to compete in the SEC, Pruitt knows what they look like and so does Fulmer. Negativity feeds the flames of a losing culture and we have a forest fire. Pruitt is trying to change the culture. Negativity also is detrimental to recruiting if people can't see that their stupid. I'm on board 100% and could give a rats ass what all the other so called fans think. The Man interviewed for a job no one wanted and was hired by someone that knows Tennessee football better than anyone on this board. We need to let him do his job!

What is scary about this is that this game has shown that our staff is not better than the other SEC coaching staffs. That is not good. If we recruit only the 5th or 6th best class in the SEC, we MUST have better coaching staffs than they do or we will be forever a mediocre SEC team. This is my take of the situation. Helton is not "one of the best assistants" in America. We were very predictable.

I do not want to hear any of this "we did not want to show our opponents" jack. That's the excuse we heard last week. "We went vanilla in order to hide it from Fla." bs.

We are seeing a failure on the football field that stems from a much bigger failure at UT. IMHO, the "Caretakers" of this great institution have failed on so many levels and in so many ways that it's hard to imagine the level of incompetence required to pull this off. Look at who was hired as president and the absolute idjuts they were, John D. Petersen. B.S., Ph.D. ...John W. Shumaker. B.A., M.A., Ph.D. ...Emerson H. Fly. ...Wade Gilley. ...now throw in chancellor jimmy "booger" cheek and others. Unfortunately for UT, this has happened at the worst possible time in the history of SEC football, the league has never been better. I don't know how this football team is "fixed". Many on team are learning on the job how to compete at an SEC level, not a recipe for success. How long can fans stomach to watch what is at times, just bad uninspired football. Who knows but for me personally, I will not buy season tickets for next year. Hopefully, responsible adults will step in and begin a restoration process from the Top down because the truth is, if the leadership and "Caretaker" positions aren't fixed, no coach, except a guy like CJP, would touch this dumpster fire which has now been burning for over ten years. Sometimes things have to hit rock bottom before they are fixed, I'm just wonder where rock bottom is at this point, since I thought UT has been there for a couple of years.

Please explain how expressing an opinion on a message board in away interfers with CJP ability to di his job?
Missed tackles and poor play has far more effect on the forrest fire of losing culture and recruiting than some random nobody on the internet, so go toot your little horn somewhere else.

You can get on or stay off, that's your decision. I supported Kiffin, Dooley, and Butch until they weren't connected with Tennessee. I didn't always agree with them, far from it. And that was my decision.
