Pruitt has exceeded expectations

I was predicting 5 wins so he has met my expectations. But just like Oliver Twist....."Please sir, I want some more."

After just completing a hail Mary Td to go in the half, he said " I think we need to learn how to act" . I think he's the coach we need to change the culture
I loved that quote. He’s a no-nonsense coach. We r here to play football and be good at it. That’s it.

1st years always have up and downs. Scar was a W that got away from us. Good W tonight. OL looked good against a solid UK defense. Get to a bowl and I consider this season a success.

If he somehow got to 7 wins and won the bowl, I'd call it a homerun season
That would be HUGE going into next year and for recruiting!! Going from 4-8 to possibly 8-5? That indeed would be a grand slam season in my book with greater things to come next season!!!

I thought 5-7 was about where we would land, so even if we lose these last 2, we hit that mark. However, beating 2 ranked SEC teams, one on the road, beats what I though Pruitt was capable of as a first year coach. Thoughts?

We need to pump the brakes. A lot. We have a lot of talent in this roster. Maybe some were overrated but still...this team should hammer ky. We also should've scored a lot more points on wvu and uga (although both are good teams). And between uf and sc...should've won at least 1. Pruitt is learning on the job (unfortunately because we chose a first time head coach). But I'm certainly happy about yesterday. If we were to say win our and win a bowl game, I think you could say we've exceeded expectations. Until then I think we should withhold judgement

The biggest thing to me is we aren't getting outcoached. With the last few hires there were lots of times where you scratched your head and questioned in game decisions. Pruitt is aggressive and you might question some of 4th and whatever calls but those are always debatable.

Well he lit into the OC when he called that flanker screen that was almost an interception and then Osborne when he made a great play then a stupid one. Great to see a coach making players and coaches do it the right way. Mental play is important you have to know what your doing.

So you just made the decision for him on when he can say the football team has exceeded his expectations. Yea, you need to pump your breaks. A lot. Like just slam down on them until you come to a complete stop!

It was a good performance, but let's see if he can string two together before we give him a raise and an extension.
Nobidy said anything about a raise and extension. Must this always be the tone of your posts? Take evidence of actual improvement at face value.

After the WV and UF games I saw three wins. Tickled they are exceeding my expectations and getting better. No way I saw us beating two ranked SEC teams this season. Tuttle, Phillips, and Taylor showing up on our D along with OL improvements has made all the difference in the world.

Florida won the same amount of games last year as Tennessee.

I am a huge CJP fan and think he will take our Vols to championship caliber heights. Next year CJP will be coach of year because 9 wins is very possible.
He might be coach of the year this year

Anchor down perhaps?

Yep, next year could be the best season we have seen in years if they make a bowl and continue to improve. 10 wins is certainly possible.

You saying we should hammer KY is based on this ridiculous notion that they are bad because, well, they’re Kentucky. They are a good football team that was ranked #11 in the country for a reason. The bad teams of the past have ZERO to do with their current team

I rember reading on here some posts about how this year could be up and down, lose some games they should win and win some they should lose type stuff. It just proves that you can't judge a game by how the previous game was played, each one has its own way of playing out. So far overall the season has played out the way some have predicted in win-loss total and to others it has exceeded expections or fell short for a few. I said 6 wins but didn't know which ones but it was just a hopeful guess. So far he has exceeded some in my eyes.

Considering the talent he inherited he has done an outstanding job. Yes, there have been games where we have lacked some energy and seem to be over-committed to the run. But, with that said, there is only so much you can control with the lack of development that has occurred over the previous coaching staff.

Overall, I think Pruitt is doing great in building the foundation for a winning culture at Tennessee. Also, his expertise in defense has more than covered for the weaknesses we have had on that side of the ball. I credit his in-game defensive strategy responsible for putting us in a position to beat both Auburn and Kentucky.

Bottom Line. If you were to give this group of players to another coach with the same SEC schedule, I'm not sure there are more than a handful that could have us at 5-5 right now with an opportunity to clinch a bowl next week.

Exceeding expectations would’ve been beating UF, USC, UGA, or being competitive against ALABAMA. KENTUCKY & Charlotte earns honorable mention at best.

I have been as critical as anyone of the staff and I will say they done a good job yesterday. Yes we have come out and made some ugly showings but we have also whipped 2ranked SEC teams and 1 of them was on the road.To even be considering a bowl after 4-8 last year and some of the showings this year is a pretty good accomplishment IMO

I think he has ...IF he wins out. That would give us 4-4 conference record with losses to 4 top 15 teams and Scar ( no excuses for that loss that was on 4th quarter coaching decisions) and 2 top 25 wins. The only real disastrous game was Florida (and Scar as above). I expected to lose the others with them not being very competitive. I am impressed with how far the secondary has come, and in spots what they have been able to do with a very limited o line. Of course we still need to beat 2 more bottom feeders before the grade will be in, but could be a very solid first season.

Serious and stoic hard nosed throwback coach. Fulmer knew it. We got ourselves a winner long term coach.
