That would be HUGE going into next year and for recruiting!! Going from 4-8 to possibly 8-5? That indeed would be a grand slam season in my book with greater things to come next season!!!1st years always have up and downs. Scar was a W that got away from us. Good W tonight. OL looked good against a solid UK defense. Get to a bowl and I consider this season a success.
If he somehow got to 7 wins and won the bowl, I'd call it a homerun season
I thought 5-7 was about where we would land, so even if we lose these last 2, we hit that mark. However, beating 2 ranked SEC teams, one on the road, beats what I though Pruitt was capable of as a first year coach. Thoughts?
We need to pump the brakes. A lot. If we were to say win our and win a bowl game, I think you could say we've exceeded expectations. Until then I think we should withhold judgement

We need to pump the brakes. A lot. We have a lot of talent in this roster. Maybe some were overrated but still...this team should hammer ky. We also should've scored a lot more points on wvu and uga (although both are good teams). And between uf and sc...should've won at least 1. Pruitt is learning on the job (unfortunately because we chose a first time head coach). But I'm certainly happy about yesterday. Considering the talent he inherited he has done an outstanding job. Yes, there have been games where we have lacked some energy and seem to be over-committed to the run. But, with that said, there is only so much you can control with the lack of development that has occurred over the previous coaching staff.
Overall, I think Pruitt is doing great in building the foundation for a winning culture at Tennessee. Also, his expertise in defense has more than covered for the weaknesses we have had on that side of the ball. I credit his in-game defensive strategy responsible for putting us in a position to beat both Auburn and Kentucky.
Bottom Line. If you were to give this group of players to another coach with the same SEC schedule, I'm not sure there are more than a handful that could have us at 5-5 right now with an opportunity to clinch a bowl next week.
I have been as critical as anyone of the staff and I will say they done a good job yesterday. Yes we have come out and made some ugly showings but we have also whipped 2ranked SEC teams and 1 of them was on the road.To even be considering a bowl after 4-8 last year and some of the showings this year is a pretty good accomplishment IMOExceeding expectations would’ve been beating UF, USC, UGA, or being competitive against ALABAMA. KENTUCKY & Charlotte earns honorable mention at best.
