I thought 5-7 was about where we would land, so even if we lose these last 2, we hit that mark. However, beating 2 ranked SEC teams, one on the road, beats what I though Pruitt was capable of as a first year coach. Thoughts?

I just saw too many similarities in his expressions I had to go and do it. Hopefully this is a sign he is a true study lol

The season isnt over yet and it's been all over the map. But UT has played it's best football (less last week) since halftime of the UGA game in the conference all year.

The SC game is still a tough pill but we re a play away in that game from being 3-1 in last 4 conference games. And a good look at 7 and possibly 8 wins.

Doing this with a very thin roster that lost 2 key pieces in Kennedy very early and Smith more recently on the OL is very encouraging.

Just need to get Missouri and Vandy to somehow be ranked so we can be assured of beating them :).

This may have been addressed before but will a 6-6 record guarantee UT a bowl game ?

Yes without a doubt 6-6 will get us a bowl. May not be the best bowl but a bowl is guaranteed with 6-6.
We may even get a bowl at 5-7 and Pruitt has already said he would take the bid with that record.

But if we do end up 6-6 I honestly expect we would get one of the best bids possible compared to the other 6-6 teams. We have an amazing fan base that travels well and will bring the tv viewers. We were also expected to not have a shot at a bowl at the beginning of the year and would be considered a “hot” team while other 6-6 teams would probably be viewed as underachievers and less intriguing of a matchup.

True, and Fulmer was a great coach, but he inherited a ton more talent than Pruitt.
In 1988, Tennessee started 0-6. The next season Fulmer was named Offensive Coordinator and recruiting coordinator. They won the SEC the next two seasons then they got rid of that idiot Majors. Fulmer recruited that team he inherited and those on that staff and those players that came on board will all tell you who did the recruiting. They had to keep Majors away from recruits as he was losing it. Learn your history.

Oh boy, you’ve opened up a can of worms now.

I’m just going to grab some popcorn and watch, I don’t have a dog in that fight

I think you're a shameless attention hound. Done nothing but bust on Pruitt and pine for Mullen.

I expected 7-5 but would be okay with 6-6 for this season. Expected 7 because the SEC East is Georgia and 6 bad teams plus we had 3 non-conf tomato cans. Didn't expect to beat Auburn, but figured we'd beat South Carolina so that one was a wash. Expected to beat Kentucky before the season as well because they aren't a good football team and they never win in Neyland. Ever. I expected to beat Vandy and Missouri too, Vandy is bad and Missouri hired Dooley who has killed their offense this season.
.
That said, this was a good week and I'll give lots of credit to the coaches for actually having the team come out ready to play against Kentucky. They didn't do it last week and it was one of worst performances any of us had seen. If we play like this and can beat both Missouri and Vandy it will be a pretty decent season, even though at times we looked very incompetent. That's to be expected in year 1. If we lose vs Vandy and Missouri, we're right back in the same boat.

So to me, we're close to on par with expectations, though at times we've looked way behind them and at times we've looked ahead of schedule.

We didn’t win a SEC game last year and have beaten two ranked SEC teams this year. Coach JP and staff have done a great job and I hope players stay laser focused and finish strong.. GO VOLS!

There was so much improvement on nearly every aspect of the game yesterday. Defense played very well, including the secondary. OL was vastly improved. I don’t know how they did it, but they stepped it up multiple notches from SC and last weekend. Kids had fire and executed many plays we previously couldn’t. I don’t know if it will last, but whatever tune up Pruitt and Co gave this team was well received and we were finally firing on all cylinders. Pruitt appears to be every bit the perfectionist I expected and hoped for. I think it might be a bumpy ride, but once we get there, it’s going to be worth it. I’m all in.
