Pruitt grabs Shamburger's jersey - media snowflake loses it

Break out the Flags and anytime a team goes up by more than 20 points, start reducing their starters by one until the margin gets closer to 10 points.

Replace concussion protocol with safe space protocol!

Hmm, I do honestly wonder what percentage of Americans work in an office. Is it really "most"?

Sure, I'll bet office workers outnumber athletes. But do they outnumber athletes PLUS all our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and coast guardsmen? Plus all the firefighters, policemen, farmers, foresters, fishermen, and all the other physically demanding jobs that have a different way of looking at coaching and leading, perhaps?

I'm not so sure your life style is actually in the majority, ZJC. Maybe it is, could be. But maybe it's not. *shrug*

In any case, what is appropriate in one work place does not dictate what's appropriate in another. Which is the argument you're trying to apply. It just doesn't work, brother.

Go Vols!

I’ve worked multiple different places. Office/Factory/Food/Retail, plus played high school sports (poorly). I’ve never had someone touch me out of anger because I made a mistake. And honestly I’ve never seen it before outside of a sports setting.

And when it’s a very public setting, like Tennessee Football is, then yes actually we can dictate what is appropriate at the work place.

JHs coaches, by definition, are bordering on mentally challenged. We pay our coach millions $$$$ to represent UT to national TV not as a dumbass JHS coach but as a full grown, mature, educated HC of a prominent university.

He has to stop this nonsense. He will stop this nonsense if he wants to stay at the University of Tennessee.

Or he can go with Woody Hayes into the annals of idiocy.

Man, you really gonna lump CJP in with Woody Hayes? REALLY??????????
OK, so you're just wanting to find something to be Orn'ry and contrary about.
Maybe if more parents would get a hold of their kids we wouldn't have a bunch of snot noses running around.

Perhaps we can. But since your perspective and my perspective are very different, it doesn't seem that we should. We'd just be sending mixed messages.

Surprised you've never been grabbed by a coach. I sure was, from Pop Warner on up. By the face mask, by the shoulder pads, by the front of my jersey. In anger? Hard to know. When a coach wants you to clearly understand that you should not repeat a certain behavior, he may amp up the volume (and the spit) a little just to be sure you're getting it. But underneath that, i don't know if any of my coaches were REALLY angry. I never stopped to ask. Heh.

So you had gentle coaches, and ended up working mostly office jobs. I had hands-on coaches and ended up a soldier (where I both gave and received even more hands-on coaching and leading). Maybe there's something to that. Or maybe that's just chance.

Bottom line is, you are trying to apply the standards of behavior for one type of work environment (your office spaces) to an entirely different environment (the football field), and that does not work very well. We're all trying to tell you this. It's too different.

Let's just allow the man to coach. If he turns into Bobby Knight or Woody Hayes, then we'll have something to worry about. But I think we'll be okay. My pee wee coach, Coach Uselton, never became a serial killer, I think he retired from his engineering firm just fine, didn't even go to jail. Heh.

Go Vols!

Okay, let’s rephrase that then.

In most American workplaces, it’s not okay to place your hands on employees, employers, or co workers. In very rare instances, some people excuse this behavior because the football coach of their favorite team does it and they then want to say that’s okay because football is “emotional” or “physical.” I disagree with that notion because I don’t think you should place your hands on people when they make a mistake and you’re angry about it, in any walk of life.
I get what youre trying to say but different jobs/ activities have different acceptable standards for decorum, verbiage, or physical contact. Military training vs Nursing, Cop vs School teacher, Bouncer vs Movie usher. There are things a coach can say or do at practice that the same person couldn't at 2 nd period PE.
In the same way that your office co-worker can't slap you on the arse and tell you what great job you did with Jones Proposal?
Or when everybody runs into the hall to sing the corporate fight song that ends with and "Screw Florida too" when you get the Jones account .
Or how you can't scream at Stanley to get on the right chart package or I'll replace you with someone who can.
Or Do you mean like Saban chewed Lanes hind end on the sidelines.
You would be in HR for all of that too... on the football field its a different standard because generally its participants aren't snowflakes that wither under words or slight physicality.

Never had a coach grab my face mask out of anger. He may have been upset, but he grabbed it because he wanted my attention focused on him and what he was saying. Same for the jersey. It not abuse, it an attention getter.

For real abuse, see the video of Texas coach Tom Herman beating they helmet of one of his players when they played Baylor. The stupidity of this “attack” is hard to watch and out of bounds!

Which I’m fine with. I actually didn’t really have a problem with the Shamburger one because that was more of what you were saying. The JG one was more “heinous” although there’s a better word for that I’m sure. Pruitt was pissed and grabbed the face mask because he was possess

The bigger issue is Pruitt has a temper, I just don’t want the issue the become a situation where it is a big deal. That’s why I wouldn’t mind if Phil said something just to say “hey we need to take 10% off there”.

Pruitt’s actions are a problem. He obviously failed to control his anger. We teach our kids to keep their hands to themselves unless in self defense or in defense of someone else. How does Pruitt have a moral leg to stand on when dealing with a young man who lost his temper and struck a woman.
Fulmer needs to deal with this before Pruitt ruins his own career.

For those of you who could care less about acceptable behavior these issues will also negatively impact recruiting.

Feel free to start the name calling.
I didn't realize we had Bob Knight on our sidelines...

I did see this happen during the game. Fulmer needs to address this issue w Pruitt. You just can't do this in today's day and age. Add this to the prior facemask grab, and there seems to be an anger issue that's gotta be nipped in the bud.
Your right ,he does need to address it. He needs to pat him on the back and say good job for letting this young man know that hurting his team that is fighting like heck will not be accepted under this administration

Even my wife said, it’s football, get over it!
GBO!!

Left out the blue font there, attack.
Some of you guys are taking my comment way too personally. Jesus.

I’m not saying I disagree with Pruitt’s tough tactics. He’s a physical dude and I think some kids benefit from that approach. I’m looking at this from an administrative standpoint — like Fulmer will need to do as AD. You simply can’t get physical with players anymore. This is twice Pruitt has done this and the media and league folks will take notice. It‘s not the kind of attention UT needs at this point.

By the way, I lived through the beginning and end of the Majors and Fulmer eras. I don’t ever recall either of those coaches grabbing players. You may be able to produce video evidence to show they did. It just wasn’t Fulmer‘s style to yell at players a whole lot, much less grab them by the facemask or jersey. He was ‘firm clap‘ and pat them on the butt kind of coach.

Wow, you’re really triggered by that word aren’t you.
That's what I thought....triggered by someone being triggered by a freakin' snowflake! We collectively aren't triggered by a word, we are triggered by the world becoming so soft that we can't do or say anything anymore. It's ridiculous. But hey, I don't have a Phd so guess I'm just dumb.

Micro Managing - bad idea . He will leave Pruitt alone on incidents like JG and Sham. Let’s move on.

When PF was coaching the OL under Majors, you seriously don't think he ever grabbed a players jersey or facemask during practices? LOL
