Pruitt gets 3 Years

3 sounds reasonable, but I think there are going to be 2 areas/things that'll probably give CJP more like 5. Yes everyone will have to take stock of the 3 year track record, but much will depend on the OL and DL status. Not the places to be "weak". It will take at least 3 years to get back to the level we need. It's just not like going to get a RB or two speedy CBS from JUCO. Lastly, if there is someone who knows OLs, it's our AD and I think his disposition is to give time. He gave Holly more time when it's debatable, in her case, if that was even close to being warranted. To me Fulmer tipped his hand a bit on that one. So long as CJP's wheels don't come off in the next 3 years, I think it sets up to be more like 5. I'm okay with that for now.

The recruiting will tell the tale. If we consistently remain in the top 10-15 range in recruiting this thing will turn fast. If that drops off our talent level will remain lower than it should to compete with the top teams in the league. Pruitt is fantastic at developing players as he has already shown and made them competitive this year. Like Pruitt said "We need 25 more players to compete with Bama". I feel confident he is the guy to right the ship, and I think that will be evident next year.

He'll get however many Fulmer wants to give him. He hired him, i imagine the leash will be pretty long. He's here 3 or 4 years regardless.

You may be right. Everything I thought I knew about this program has collapsed over the past 10 years or so. It may just be time to fold up expectations of being relevant and accept that we are bottom feeders.

I honestly just want to see us win again. Being associated with UT is becoming an embarrassment.
I know how you feel man. I do. It's been so long since we fielded a really good team. I just hope our patience is rewarded.

Many VN posters say we should know after two seasons ala Smart & Saban. I think our talent levels were further behind for Pruitt to inherit consequently, I'm targeting year 3 to understand what he will be and how long he will last after that. He has my support unless they just fall off a cliff which we saw in 2017.

I think we need to tap the brakes just a bit on our expectations for the coming recruit class. I do expect it to be an improvement, but I am not expecting a lot of 4 and 5 star recruits. And then, with a decent season, the next recruiting class will be even better! Patience is the word.

Just my opinion.

I’m behind Pruitt 100% but 3 Years is pretty reasonable.

He’ll have a lot of his own players to work with that fits his system.
Hope we are good enough in year 3 that a new set of paranoia sets in on volnation...Saban retiring and Pruitt bolting.

• First year I expected an up & down season with improvement. I think Pruitt has fairly managed that well by beating Auburn.

• Second year I expect to be competing on a consistent basis. No, I’m not saying we should beat Bama & Georgia. I’m expecting to be competitive with the likes of Mizz, SC, UK, and Vandy.

• Third year I expect 9 or 10 wins the most by having a chance to win the East. Pruitt will have two recruiting classes under his belt with the players he wants in his system. If he’s not winning on a consistent basis by then, his seat will and should get warmer.

I’m not asking to be National Champs but I expect to be in the SEC Championship (Winners of the East) sometime from now.

Seems pretty reasonable to me.
As long as this year is year zero, your expectations are acceptable to me. Right now he’s playing with mostly broken bricks. His first full recruiting class should be allowed to turn from 18 year old boys into 21-22 year old men.

3 years? Is that probation or hard time? The loss last week was no doubt a crime but I vote for probation at this point.

Can't put a number on it now. If he goes 3-9 next year he may only get 2. He may get 5 if he shows steady progress.

As long as he is showing improvement he is here for a long time. You simply can’t keep changing coaches.
This, as long as he gets 8 wins by yr 3 or 4 and doesn't fall off a cliff thereafter...barring a catastrophic injuries. He will have the job a long time...after the past decade this fan base will be very hesitatant to call for his head.

Define competitive with. Because we were competitive with South Carolina Saturday. By next year I expect to be able to actually hang on and win a game that we lead for 3 quarters.

If we don’t curb stomp scar next year, then that tells me all I need to know.... the cocks are a barometer for the difference between a bad team and a possibly mediocre team. They are a terrible program historically and it’s flat out embarrassing they’ve had success against us. Look at the schedule next year, if Pruitt is going to make an impact it’s next year. Perception is reality... let’s get this thing rolling and watch it take off. We should know before the scar game, but it will be telling

Well Butch had 9 wins his 3rd year and most of the major players were his recruits Dobbs & Barnett. Even wion 9 year 4 but in college FB things can go bad fast. Look at Malzahn, look at Chip Kelly , Gruden etc..it’s a fickle business only the strong and the ones that know how to play the system thrive. The system being the Universiy Administration , the SEC brass, The NCAA recruiting laws and the players families and the media and the beloved Fanatics also known as fans.

8 wins acceptable in year 4? Shouldn’t we expect more?

You think the lack of depth coupled with the gauntlet TN had gone through might have factored into the second half slide? Maybe just an itty bitty bit?
Little bit but we also didn’t make the proper adjustments. I don’t remember us ever putting 9 guys on the line to try and stuff the run. Should have stopped the run and forced them to beat us in the air.

I agree with most of what you have said, but I think he needs 4 years unless we just crap the bed. 3 full recruiting cycles will tell the tale. I dont really count this last recruiting class because he came in so late.

And here's hoping that in Year 3, we can finally be done with the hundreds of threads about whether Pruitt was or was not the right hire. I'm good either way, but I am already weary of the polarized fan base.

If you're a Vol fan, you back the man until he proves he's not worthy of your support. And we are nowhere near "there" yet.

Good Grief, and Go Vols.
