• First year I expected an up & down season with improvement. I think Pruitt has fairly managed that well by beating Auburn.

• Second year I expect to be competing on a consistent basis. No, I’m not saying we should beat Bama & Georgia. I’m expecting to be competitive with the likes of Mizz, SC, UK, and Vandy.

• Third year I expect 9 or 10 wins the most by having a chance to win the East. Pruitt will have two recruiting classes under his belt with the players he wants in his system. If he’s not winning on a consistent basis by then, his seat will and should get warmer.

I’m not asking to be National Champs but I expect to be in the SEC Championship (Winners of the East) sometime from now.

Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Reasonable. We'll know without question what we have after season 3.

Get ready to fire him in 3 years then. You can't do a total rebuild in that time.

Define competitive with. Because we were competitive with South Carolina Saturday. By next year I expect to be able to actually hang on and win a game that we lead for 3 quarters.

How many years does he have on his contract? That is what he needs time wise to get it turned around. He has a tough job ahead of him.

Just my opinion.

I’m behind Pruitt 100% but 3 Years is pretty reasonable.

He’ll have a lot of his own players to work with that fits his system.

Those are reasonable expectations except year 3. Yes he will have some recruits under his belt but they will be young to very young and just starting to "maybe" fill the shoes he has for them. When his recruiting classes are juniors and seniors, we can come to a much clearer conclusion.

If I had to put a number on it, i'd say 8 wins will be great in year 3

He deserves at least 5 but has to remain competitive, showing signs of improvement.

Beating Auburn and taking SC to the wire are good year one signs.

Give our young inexperienced high potential head coach time. Forgive some missteps along the way. He's young, inexperienced, but with good pedigree and an obvious passion to be the best at his craft.

I don't see why his timeline is totally unreasonable. There's a reason people fixate on "year 3." It isn't pulled out of thin air. Pruitt's first recruiting class are juniors in year 3, and the vast majority of the team will be made up of players he recruited and developed. I can see an argument made that you give a coach 4 years, because in year 4 the first recruiting class that was totally "yours" (i.e., not made up of guys who committed to the previous staff but rather guys solely you recruited) are juniors and make up the core of the team.

If he is not beating the lower tier of the conference and competitive (winning some, losing some, and not getting blown out) with the upper tier of the conference in 3 or 4 years, it is totally fair to question if it will happen with him. Tennessee and Kentucky are not the same type of football program, to say the least. We have structural advantages in football over a program like Kentucky, and it shouldn't take 6 years to get something going.

I'm not saying fire in year 3 if there aren't 9 or 10 wins. You shouldn't have a hard and fast rule. But it is totally fair to develop an opinion on what kind of coach you have at that point. Even Dabo, who is thought to have taken longer than most coaches to get his program humming, had Clemson much improved in 3-4 years. They were still "Clemsoning" but better than Bowden.

Actually he gets six years according to his contract. If you think he can rebuild and win constantly with a bunch of sophomores because this year is the first year he acutally gets "his" recruits in. He needs 5 years minimum before any thought of firing should be done (but I don't think he will have to worry about that after year five.)

After the 4th or 5th season (can't remember the length of his contract) he will be wanting an extension and we'll have to give him one otherwise recruiting will suffer. We're financially better off making the decision after his 3rd season as to whether he's the guy or not.

It's never that straight-forward.

Dooley got 3 years because it was ridiculously obvious that he was never going to succeed by the end of Year 2. Butch got 5 years, because that 2015 team (Year 3) looked like a top 10 team by the end of the season. Wasn't till year 5 (with some big hints in Year 4) that it was obvious that Butch couldn't hack it.

So long as Pruitt is improving and the program is moving in the right direction, he'll get more time. If we're 8-4 in 2020, but Pruitt is starting to get #1 classes, then that's pretty good evidence that we're moving in the right direction. It's impossible to put a "litmus test" out there, because you have to judge coaches based on a wide variety of things.

I saw no mention of Florida in your analysis. If you can't beat GA, you have to beat Fla. to get to Atlanta. Also, 9 wins and even 10 is highly unlikely to get TN to Atlanta.

You spelled 5 years wrong. Fulmer won't touch Pruitt for atleast 5 years as long as there are not any major scandals or issues like player safety or Pruitt having a motorcycle wreck like Petrino. Pruitt is guaranteed to do 2 things: recruit great classes and develop talent. Those are two things that Butch couldn't do in tandem and he got 5 years.

Fulmer knows better than anyone that Pruitt will at worst, leave the program (from a talent/development standpoint) in a hell of a lot better shape than he found it. Outside of fighting for bowl eligibility in year 3, he won't be close to the hot seat until year 4/5

Boy butch was unable to do a "rebuild" in five years-in fact he did a deconstruction of anything that was left; however, CP will field a much improved team next season, by year three-we'll be a top 25 all season.
