Pruitt explains why Jarrett Guarantano is still Vols' starter

This Saturday is going to be very interesting to me. I really want to see how well this team performs after two weeks of preparation and practice. This should say a lot about this staff. I have my own opinions on what to expect knowing the stubbornness of the head coach, but I am going to evaluate this staff by how they get this team to perform this weekend.

An Arkansas team that was garbage in 2019 should not be the measuring stick for Pruitt in year 3.

Odd reaction. Mond is an example of someone who isn't a great thrower but has designed runs due to his ability to influence the game with his legs so his lack of arm talent is offset somewhat by his ability as a runner.
You must not have watched the Miss St game last year? He averaged 13 yds a carry. He made mistakes in the red zone but he was taking that game over.

He coaches them all. The ox and head coach pick who starts
He coaches them all yes. But so does Cheney. We all know Cheney is capable so why hasn’t he been able to improve them? It’s because he’s told who to invest his time in. Pruitt flat out admitted it himself just a couple weeks ago

I would have to say Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, Tee Martin, Casey Clausen, Tyler Bray, Josh Dobbs, Jonathan Crompton, James Banks, Jauan Jennings, and Bailey disagree with that statement.

Not all panned out but all were 4 star or better according to the services.

Sorry, should have added context. I meant during the past few years, not all time.

Gotcha.

They lucked up on Dobbs for sure and didn't do much under Jones in recruiting at the position.

Just disappointing they bring in Bailey with the hype and won't give him any run while other young QBs are getting playing time and some are doing well at other programs. Thinking Howell and DJ Uiagalelei specifically right off hand.

He's started 4 games and has 2 TDs with 5 interceptions. JG has 38 TDs to 16 int.
In what? 4 years? Woooo Weeeeeeeeeee
9.5 TDs and 4 INTs per season...

I wouldn't call that 'lighting it up' exactly, would you?

He has 2 tds and 5 ints. Two of those ints hit his receivers in their numbers. 1 of those was directly after landing on his head and probably shouldn’t have been throwing in that situation. Js.

I never said JG was a good QB. I simply said he was the best option among the choices TN has.

Pruitt's got a point -- it takes 11 guys on offense. If the other 10 aren't doing their jobs, it's hard on the QB.

So maybe we want to address the leadership and motivation we need to get from a QB for the other 10? Whaddya think, JP?
I was actually about to post the exact opposite of what you posted. CJP said you can have an eraser on defense but not offense. (Which is why you said CJP has a point.)

I can't believe this is CJP point of view about offense. We are doomed if this is true. A good QB can be an eraser (right play, right adjustment, know the outlets/throw aways, pocket mobility/awareness). A mobile QB can be an eraser (see Dobbs). A good OC can get some matchups (when not handcuffed by a QB where everyone and I mean everyone knows their limitations). This would mean you don't have to play so clean or perfect 11 out of 11 on every play.

I hate to be the one to bust Pruitts bubble (and maybe yours) but on nearly EVERY play someone blows an assignment on offense. Offense is much more detailed and complex than defense to expect perfection from 11 players on every single play. One play someone misses a block. The next a receiver runs the wrong route. The next play the RB doesn’t pick up the blitz. With JG were punting after that situation because he took two sacks and an incompletion. With a mobile qb, that missed block creates a hole to run through on first down. On second that receiver that ran the wrong route doesn’t effect a seasoned qb because he goes to option 2. On third a mobile qb sees the blitz coming and immediately goes into scramble mode once the blitz breaks the LOS or hits a hot route into the vacated area. Thus becomes “an eraser”.

I’ve been a die hard VOL fan all of my life. So much so that in my younger years if you talked trash about my Vols you’d better be prepared to defend your position with your fists. With that said it pains me to say this as I’ve said at least twice already. I sincerely hope BM and HB transfer after this season if JG elects to return. I also hope they transfer to a team that will play the Vols in a few years and they have a NCAA record day passing for 600 plus yards and 10 TD’s as Pruitt stands on the sideline with his mouth open in amazement like the Gump that he is. I’m sick of Pruitt and have zero faith in that idiot to coach anyone. Instead of watching my Vols this Saturday I’ll just sit in my deer stand and watch old Vol football games when we were relevant. It will be a nice change to watch a well coached team from the late 90’s and dream about what could be if we had a competent coach.
