Pruitt explains why Jarrett Guarantano is still Vols' starter

1998.

Remember what it was like to be great?

Now we get smashed by KY at home. Bama, Dawgs and Gators owns us. OWN US. Mediocrity is our middle name.

Got top-10 recruiting classes, yet we keep on trucking down the path to .500.

22 years later.

*sigh*

After getting drilled out by Kentucky... "Mediocrity" might be a bit generous.

Pruitt explains why Jarrett Guarantano is still Vols' starter

In case there was any doubt, Jeremy Pruitt just squashed it.
Jarrett Guarantano will be Tennessee’s starting quarterback Saturday night at Arkansas, Pruitt said after Wednesday’s practice.

What I hear when Pruitt talks about why JG is still the starter:

Pruitt went on to say JG has promised to give him all the photos and negatives once he depletes his eligibility in 2 more years. Aight den.

I can't believe either Shrout or Maurer (or both) didn't transfer after last season.

I've heard scuttlebutt/rumor that Maurer really likes the idea of being able to walk around a college campus and known as a football player, and it doesn't entirely bother him that he's the backup.

At some point, when you know you can’t change your situation, you just give up and accept it. I don’t think Pruitt has a merit-based system. Because no matter how terribly Guaranturnover plays, nobody else gets a real chance.

So, basically, Guaranturnover kisses Pruitt’s @$$ at practice, and he plays no matter what. Results be damned. I suspect this applies to other position groups as well.

I am as baffled as the rest of you, because it will not lead to success.

During today’s press conference in regards to JG being the starting QB, Pruitt made the statement (as he has done many time before, or was that Butch?) that it takes all 11 offensive players to do the right thing for a play to work.

Well what happens when the QB is routinely the 11th player that ***** the bed? I mean, my gosh, is he trolling us, or what? How, after a bye week, is JG still your starting QB?

With this whole year of experience under his belt, JG should be ready to make an impact for his 6th yr Senior season.

Sometimes people can’t admit they’re wrong so they’d rather stick with the problem until it fixes itself.

Pruitt's got a point -- it takes 11 guys on offense. If the other 10 aren't doing their jobs, it's hard on the QB.

So maybe we want to address the leadership and motivation we need to get from a QB for the other 10? Whaddya think, JP?

I’m sure it’s gotten to the point of slinging a sledgehammer all day, busting up concrete while the bosses son sits on his ass beside you and gets the praise and the raise.
Since you're able to personally witness practice, maybe you need to team up with fingers for the weekly practice report... 😎👍

Worst thing is, clearly the younger guys are not making a good impression in practice. Either they stink worse or player development is beyond pathetic.
Its mainly because they are never given a chance. Pruitt has gone on the record saying that they basically have to spend all practice and all reps on JG just to make him serviceable for game day.

Shrout has to be gone. You’re the backup, come in for one series throw a pick and demoted to 4th string. That can’t be good for the psyche.

You are right, not good for him. What must he think, yea, I messed up, but how many times has jg messed up? All players should be treated fairly.

Not at all. You're sure, remember? So your either at practice, stating opinion as fact or you and BM are BFFs and you're sharing info from private conversations.

He was actually 54% in the 4 starts he was prepared to play in. Jg was 59%. So he was only 5% worse than JG in completion %. The difference was that BM was throwing downfield and rarely checked down.

Some people who don't understand football, can't see what you just said. I am very puzzled on Pruitt's decision, as he is supposed to be very knowledgeable. It appears he is not that good at evaluating qb though. Because if jg is the best we have that means 3 years of his recruiting does not have 1 qb to beat out butch jones recruit in jg. That is terrible. I don't think Pruitt wants a passing game, I think he wants a game manager, and that won't get ut where we want to go. You will win 7 or 8 games a year like this in todays football. Used to be the way to win, have a good defense and control the clock, not any more, that's Ky game plan and you see where they are at. Even though they beat us very bad, Ky is not a good team.

This should help Arkansas game plan our offense. here is it is: 1st down: run 2nd down: run 3rd down: throw 3 yard pass to the flat, Punt

Or alternatively: 1st down: run 2nd down: run 3rd down: try to throw 3 yard pass to the flat, get strip sacked for a fumble run back for a TD

I'm already getting excited about how drunk out of my mind I will be by 8pm.

Maurer is extremely mobile and his stats came as a true freshman vs the best defenses in the SEC. The obsession with JG is borderline psychotic at this point.

I don't know what your definition of mobile is but it must be pretty low.

Do you think Manning would have the same lackadaisical attitude JG has when the O line doesn’t give him time or a receiver runs a wrong route? Manning got in their face and called them out. JG just trots to the sidelines and sits all sullen. Manning was up talking to and encouraging his teammates JG.....nuttin honey.

Call it what you want. However, you have to know that it comes with the turf when you're passing yourself off as someone "in the know".

If I had to guess, my credibility isn’t in question as it once was. If you were here two years ago and payed attention I said this day was coming.
