Pruitt explains why Jarrett Guarantano is still Vols' starter

If I had to guess, my credibility isn’t in question as it once was. If you were here two years ago and payed attention I said this day was coming.
Only thing I'm sure of about you is you're a HUGE Brian Maurer fan. I like the kid too. As far as your 'credibility' goes, I could not care less.

This is a message board on the internet. I mean NO offense to anyone, but I actually know none of you (that I know of) so it's ALL just opinions with no credibility...

I don't know what your definition of mobile is but it must be pretty low.

I have the definition of my eyes seeing him run. He had a 15 yard run on his one scramble this season and managed positive rushing yards even after the sacks he took last year. He had 905 yards rushing in high school and averaged almost 6 yards per carry.

I’m a Maurer fan for many different reasons. Idc who it is though, UT just needs a change

It isn't hard to figure out. The other upperclassmen have a career completion pct in the 40s(JG is in the 60s) and are not mobile. Bailey isn't ready. Like it or not JG is the best option.
Ok coach🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Not Mobile? Guaranteed at least 1 could run circles around JG.
Completion %. It’s like comparing batting avg of a everyday player with 600 ab with a pinch hitter with 10 ab on the season

By Pruitt's reasoning if JG happened to go down we are beyond screwed. This staff has had 3 recruiting classes and 2 off seasons to get or develop a serviceable QB and the best we have couldn't start anywhere else in the SEC. Says a lot about the coaches.

Most head coaches want to get "their guy " in at QB.

Pruitt is actively against that happening.

Speaks to either a lack of scouting ability in recruiting or the inability to prep a younger player.

Neither bodes well for this program.

He was actually 54% in the 4 starts he was prepared to play in. Jg was 59%. So he was only 5% worse than JG in completion %. The difference was that BM was throwing downfield and rarely checked down.
You mean 1 was trying to move the team down field and score, and the other was trying to get off the field without a turnover?
Explains CJP saying he knows what the expectations are.
Problem could be we need a coach with different expectations

I can't believe either Shrout or Maurer (or both) didn't transfer after last season.

I've heard scuttlebutt/rumor that Maurer really likes the idea of being able to walk around a college campus and known as a football player, and it doesn't entirely bother him that he's the backup.
Please provide sources so we can validate.

Tennessee has not been much of a destination for top quarterbacks. HB and Salter are the result of Pruitt starting to turn that around a bit, predominantly through good recruiting.

Pruitt will lose 2 maybe even 3 QBs this off season and go into next season with JG, an unproven sophomore (if HB stays) and true freshman as his QBs.

There is a clear #2 just as there was last year. He’s just not going to tell anyone who it is to keep competition up. It all depends on the situation when #2 is needed. If it’s just mop up then you’ll see a rotation just like we have. But if we need to win then you’ll see Maurer.
I was stating that if our backups can’t beat JG#2 then our QB coach should be fired because he can’t develop a QB.

JG's mobility has nothing to do with whether BM is mobile.
BM has taken 76 snaps at Tn and has a 47 pct completion pct.

True and it’s starting to look Butch Jones ish like ! Doesn’t matter how many good ones you recruit if they don’t play.

76 snaps divided by how many different series in different games mostly coming in off the bench cold?

Someone who can affect the game significantly with their legs. BM does not fit that definition.
I think you're wrong on that but unfortunately, there's to small of a sample size to know for sure...

I would have to say Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, Tee Martin, Casey Clausen, Tyler Bray, Josh Dobbs, Jonathan Crompton, James Banks, Jauan Jennings, and Bailey disagree with that statement.

Not all panned out but all were 4 star or better according to the services.

Can we count guys like Eric Berry and Juuan Jennings that played QB in high school but recruited to play another position? 😎

Odd reaction. Mond is an example of someone who isn't a great thrower but has designed runs due to his ability to influence the game with his legs so his lack of arm talent is offset somewhat by his ability as a runner.
