Pruitt explains why Jarrett Guarantano is still Vols' starter

This Saturday is going to be very interesting to me. I really want to see how well this team performs after two weeks of preparation and practice. This should say a lot about this staff. I have my own opinions on what to expect knowing the stubbornness of the head coach, but I am going to evaluate this staff by how they get this team to perform this weekend.

Whatever, that's his reasoning and it's not changing.

My big question is why when games are clearly decided and it's garbage time, Guarantano is still out there? Has any QB this season other than JG gotten more than one series in a game? UK & UGA each provided the opportunity to play someone else for at least a couple series. The Bama game basically had a full quarter that the other 3 could get experience. Yet by my memory JG got almost all of those snaps. My guess is practice is the same with JG getting almost all the 1st team snaps so it's no surprise no one else is getting better.

Shrout has to be gone. You’re the backup, come in for one series throw a pick and demoted to 4th string. That can’t be good for the psyche.
I can't believe either Shrout or Maurer (or both) didn't transfer after last season.

I've heard scuttlebutt/rumor that Maurer really likes the idea of being able to walk around a college campus and known as a football player, and it doesn't entirely bother him that he's the backup.

Idk who would say that because he could walk around ANY campus and accomplish that. I assure you BM is probably one of the most competitive players on the roster and the moment you heard that should remind you that this is a kid that doesn’t give up on a single play and fights for every yard.

I didn't say that he wasn't competitive; you can tell that he is when he's in the game.

I think it would be fair to say that there a lot of other kids who, if they were in his position, would have transferred already.

Who’s to say he isn’t waiting for the one time transfer ruling? Maybe he just loves UT and would RATHER be given an opportunity? Maybe if things continue this way he won’t hesitate because sometimes love just isn’t enough. Pruitt is toying with these kids futures like it’s a joke to him.

It’s sad that neither Maurer or Shrout have been able to overtake JG in practice. They’ve been in Knoxville long enough to know the system. If Pruitt thinks that neither can step in a give us a better shot than JG then I hope Bailey was given plenty of snaps over the last two weeks.

I’m sure it’s gotten to the point of slinging a sledgehammer all day, busting up concrete while the bosses son sits on his ass beside you and gets the praise and the raise.
