Pruitt expected to coach Alabama in playoff

Good! I hope he takes them all the way to the championship and wins it. Will be more playoff/championship experience for the coach and will help with recruiting. Maybe not this year, but you never know. Let him get that experience and bring it to TENNESSEE!

I'm def onboard with him seeing his commitments through.

BUT...lets not get carried away. I hope Clemson beats them in a ridiculously low scoring affair.

I just hope that he is completely disconnected from Alabama until the early signing period ends. That's the only way that this works on us on any level.

I don't like it, but I am behind Pruitt. But this really isn't a good way for this new coaching staff to get off on the right foot and set us up to rebuild the shambles the program is in and salvage something out of the recruiting class. There's a lot of work to do and little time to do it in. Color me skeptical that this will work out for us (as far as the Pruitt staying to coach with Bama for a bit)

If UT was made the playoffs with Tee was you OC but he was hired as headcoach at LSU, wouldn't you admire his display of honor in helping UT win before taking off to Baton Rouge?

I don't think it will hurt you in recruiting. Indeed, every time Bama's D comes up with a big play (hopefully many of them against Clempsun), the talking heads will be talking about the new Vols HC.

I think he can firm up all of your defensive commits for early signing period, then hit the road for two weeks in hotels after the playoffs. Mike even pick up a Bama decommit or two.

So what will be some of ya’lls excuse when Clemson hangs 30+ points on Pruitt’s defense?

Who says he isn't? Kirby did the exact same thing two years ago and it didn't seem to hurt their recruiting.

Kirby did NOT Do the exact same thing because Kirby didn't have the early signing period to deal with. Recruiting is important and having some semblance of the staff you are recruiting kids to play for is important. There are things to do and over 100m a year on the line. He's Tennessees coach now. Time to do the job.

Scoring happens. Its an elite offense. His defense did enough to win the previous year.

Even Saban has his shortcomings...just ask some of the coaches who have beat him in the SECW.

Its perfect but its still a pretty good hire.

I obviously wouldn't mind if he stayed but if the school he was going to was a dumpster fire and there was a signing period in 2 weeks, I would be able to see that the logical thing would be to give his 100% to that program and wouldn't hold it against him.

Also I would be shocked if he tries to pull any Bama recruits while on staff there.

Didn't people get pissed when Cutcliff left before the National Championship game?

Yes. And I'd to see Bama fans pissed that their DC left.

I get it may not be a big deal for him to finish out the season. At the same time it would've been nice to see him be so committed to Tennessee that he wanted to leave immediately for Rocky Top.

If true this is a major mistake on the part of Pruitt. His success as a HC depends on recruiting. He cannot afford to have a bad class this year.

LOL and people are welcoming him with open arms. “Erm, yeah, I’m super excited to be getting a huge raise and I look forward to eventually being your head coach but..uhhh... yea I’ve got some stuff to do. See you in mid-January?”

I have hired plenty of people who had to follow through on some things over a 30 day period. When you make the right hire, you let them finish what they need to. Doesn't mean I like it, but it's not some terrible thing all around.

A quick vent about one aspect of his hire I don't like...

I'm willing to wait and see what this guy can do, what kind of staff he can build, what kind of kids he can recruit, who he can coach up, how he interacts with fans and media and boosters, etc, before I make judgment on the hire.

BUT, why would Fulmer allow him to coach Bama in the playoff? That should have been a non-negotiable condition of hire.

If he's the TN head coach, start acting like it, immediately, on day 1. If he REALLY wants the TN job, which was a prerequisite for Fulmer, then don't wait on a part time coach. Recruiting is going to be hard enough given everything that's happened the last few weeks.

And yes, I understand that to get a great coach, you often have to look to currently great teams (ones in the playoffs). But Pruitt ain't making no $4mm/yr at Bama, and he ain't the head coach there, so his loyalty, and more importantly, his focus, should immediately be with TN. Simply stated, his opportunity cost of taking the TN job should be not coaching the playoff and getting to continue promoting the Bama name.

Just my 2 cents.

The PR we will get from it, not to mention the contractual obligations, having enough integrity to follow through with a commitment, shall we go on?

(secretly hoping he tanks the game so bama loses, and he can come sooner..... won't happen)

Playing devils advocate. If we were in the playoff and one of our assistants left for a head coaching job, you would be throwing a fit that they're not being loyal.

Why would you want a coach that would bail on his commitment, his defensive staff and the players he helped recruit and develop?

Isn't there a recruiting dead period from like December 18th-January 11th? So it's not like he'd be out recruiting anyways.

Also has about a week before Bama restarts practice. Hopefully can do some damage control for early signing period.

I have been told if you don't want him coaching and helping Alabama win another national title you're a negavol. I mean it only makes sense that we want to see our new head coach swathed head to toe in crimson for another month while Alabama wins big.

Meanwhile, Mullen left Miss State and never looked back after being their HC for 10 years. I guess he wasn't loyal.
