I hope this was due to "new information" and not media pressure. Banks needed to apologize and make good, but based on the current information, this feels a bit overblown. He made a stupid comment to a cop. He didn't hurt anyone. And he was arrested for about as minor of a crime as you can be arrested for ('suspended license').

Suspend him a game or two; make him do some community service; apologize. I'm not seeing the rationale for dismissing him.

From my experience working in print media and public relations for the past 12 years, releasing it then would be the worst possible timing. The idea is to release it on Friday, before the game, and hope some other news dominates the news cycle by Monday and it sort of gets put on the back burner. If you do it on Monday, that’s all the media is going to hit on since there isn’t a game for another week and nothing else to really take their focus.

This may have been the exact thing offered to Jeremy. Who knows that he didn't refuse to apologize or tho do some community service? The team needs to know that there are consequences to their actions.
