Pruitt Confidence level?

Well, 5-7 first season closed out with back to back embarrassing losses. Honestly makes me wonder how tf we beat Auburn and Kentucky. What do guys think of year 1?

I know the reasonable thing would say “he just doesn’t have the players yet.” And that is 100 true. But no UT coach should ever lose to Vandy, let alone get beat down by them. It has honestly made me question him a lot. How do you be a competent coach and even let this happen?

Not counting this year but they literally destroyed us the past two years. We don't automatically just become better than them. Also, the days of Vandy being an automatic W is long gone and that's against all teams they face.

Bunch of idiots in here, so he’s suppose to take a crap roster, with a mediocre recruiting class and suddenly be competing for the east?

Nobody rational expect us to compete for the East. But, we just witnessed our team not only lose to Vandy. But, we got owned from start to finish in every single phase of the game ... by the Vanderbilt Commodores! This gift came exactly 7 days after the exact same kind of gang rape by the Missouri Tigers in our own house on senior day.

If the past 8 days don't raise some questions about our staff's ability to return us to championships, then you may not be paying close attention.

Whether you support Pruitt or not, he's not losing his job. Even if he did, what would be the point? Administration is an embarrassment and has shown over and over they are not willing to pay for an established coach. Might as well hope Pruitt can recruit a great class and rebuild the program. It's not going to be a quick process, but given time, all we can do is hope he pulls it off. Just remember, if for some reason he gets canned in a few years, we'll just get more of the same from the admin, hiring on the cheap. They do not care about the football program, only the revenue it continues to produce.

This is what I’ve been saying over and over.
The fans want championships.

The university is meh

Too soon to tell.
We knew this season was going to be bad.
We performed as most everyone projected with the gauntlet schedule we had.
Give Pruitt a couple recruiting cycles and we will know the truth.
I personally think he will be fine. You just can’t coach heart and lack of appropriate measurables

This is a 26 senior vandy team that took Notre Dame to the end, next year we smash them with freshman and sophomores. I'll reserve judgement for Pruitt for 3-4 years, I think this staff is capable of evalutating and developing SEC talent unlike the previous staff.
Next year............... Is this starting to sound familiar yet?

I'm not saying give in but when we keep repeating next year, next year, next year over and over it gets old and annoying. At this point I'm put up our shut up. We are owned by everyone in the SEC not named KY over the past 10 years. To think we could expect to win against anyone except KY just isn't being honest with themselves.

Quit talking about next year until this team shows they are ready to take the next step.

We were kinda like Purdue vs Ohio State. It was an accident.

Once I would say was an accident, but doing it twice in one season shows me that there is something there and not just two accidents.

Pruitt is on a learning curve as HC. He will get better next year. Think about your selves, how many of us were not better at a tough job after having done it for a year or two than we were when we were greenhorns.

My confidence is pretty high in him. I see this season as making him even more focused on the game. He will not want to suffer another beat down at the hands of Vandy, or Bama, pr UGA. Although we will not be in a position to do much about the last two next year. We can just hope to make a game of it with those 2 next year.

Can you make this a poll?

The auburn game was an accident. The Kentucky game is because Kentucky sucks. Heck, even MTSU kept it within 10.

Honestly if you'd said we'd have two wins over top 25 ranked sec opponents at the start of the year, I would've thought Pruitt would be SEC coach of the year. That said this was an absolute debacle. I don't give a damn if you have to put walk ons and freshmen on the field, just give me some measure of effort. So confidence is pretty crap right now. He needs to sign a big recruiting class and do something next year

For the love of God, people. This has been years in the making..a culture of mediocrity isn’t going to change over night! The man literally had 4 weeks of any recruiting before signing day last Feb. Heck, even Saban went 6-6 his first season... let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water, sheeze.

His team didn’t quit. Butches team quit. That’s what they were programmed to do. Your last statement is almost 100% true. Those who’ve wanted to get better, have. But they have definitely quit. Only bright spot this year is Taylor and Thompson.
Exactly rev. According to Phillips and Tuttle some of the Butch babies simply gave up and half assed it. That is on those players and Butch. Pruitt will get rid of those types soon enough.

This is the Sad part. UT fans trying to prop up Vanderbilt's resume to prove a point. LOL They suck and always will. WE just suck worse.

Exactly. We should be complaining about losing by 3 to Alabama, not trying to make ourselves feel better by saying how much better Vandy, Kentucky, SC, etc. have gotten.

I firmly believe CJP inherited a broken, toxic culture. There were signs early he was fixing it but such a transformation puts a lot of stress on the structure and it frankly fell down against Missouri. He's not an elite coach but I think he has the potential to be one.

The great coaches establish themselves in year 2 of a program. Next year will be the measuring stick of how much CJP can realize his potential with the Vols.

I’m pretty sure coach Fulmer has made it clear to CJP a offensive line build is a keystone. I’d say 80% of the offensive shortcomings were the direct result of an offensive line executing like individuals rather than a unit. Yes, it even makes a play caller look inept because he’s trapped into only calling plays they can execute. But you’re right CJP chose the OC, an established proven OC would’ve made more of an impact, let em learn on somebody else’s dime. One more thing, coach Friend may be good buds with CJP and he may know offensive line techniques but his ability to teach it to the point they get it and execute it sucks, just because you’re a master in an area doesn’t necessarily follow your a teacher of it.
