With Mel Tucker recently getting $5.5M per year at Michigan State, I was curious to see where CJP stacks up in salary. He wasn’t in the Top 25, and I was surprised by some who were.

25 highest-paid college football coaches

According to the interweb, Pruitt makes $3.8M per year. If he has a good season this year and we are competitive for the East, I imagine a big raise is headed his way. But we are definitely getting a bargain compared to many other SEC schools.

I remember CP saying he would take less pay if it meant he could hire better coach's. The understanding being he knew that was the life blood of his career.

Some people value winning more than personal gain, and generally those people earn their money and then some.

Just maybe Pruitt is one of those people and we need to make sure that we keep him happy and provide the staff and materials that he needs.

Pruitt will be in the $5 million range before spring practice is over this year.

Is that being reported or just speculation on your part? If accurate, I guess that would come with an extension as well?

What he says in public may not be the same thing his agent says in private....

Many times you have to perform the job at a high level and earn the raise or job you want. I do agree Pruitt has been a bargain up to this point.

Still TBD on whether or not he's a bargain. His first 16 games, he was grossly overpaid. The last 8, he's been a big-time bargain. I think we will have a very good idea by the end of Y3 where he ends up on the bargain spectrum. Hopefully, he is getting a huge, well-deserved raise this time next year.

Pruitt signed a 6 year deal. Given the start of the season, I think it is more than fine to keep him on current contract with no changes. If he makes another step in 2020, we add a year or two and make a major offer to raise his salary.

Also Michigan State had to make a hire. Did they over pay for Mel Tucker? Sure. But they made that move because they didn't want to prolong a job search. They basically did what Tennessee didn't do when Kiffin bolted......

Pruitt knows better than anyone that Phil won't play games with him and that winning in 2020 means big rewards for Pruitt. If Phil was willing to pony up and pay Rick Barnes to prevent another collapse in the basketball program over the next 5 years, he will do the same with football to even bigger degree.

Outside of Pruitt winning the East in year 2, I never saw a reason to extend or raise his current contract since it was 6 years up front.

People looking to raise a ruckus because of Tucker's contract and compare it to Pruitt's are insane.

#16 Charlie Strong was at bama Thursday applying for Boy Butch's position. The horn blower will have to go back to work soon. The country needs used car salesmen, should have no trouble finding a job.

If you can't tell we have a much better team than we did 3 years ago you may need to get your eyes checked. I agree he is still learning to be an SEC Head Coach. BUT, he has our team bigger, stronger and faster than we have been in many years. That alone makes him a bargain. At the very least we are not going to get run over by any SEC team. We have the sized to stand our ground. JMHO

It has to happen. Last I remember seeing, he's down around 11th or 12th in the SEC now that Ole Miss and Miss St have passed us. If they don't extend him with a raise and he wins 9 games, they'll create a hot coaching candidate for somebody else.

Idk why the hell MSU gave Tucker that contract. The man went 5-7 in 1 year as HC and they doubled his salary and salary pool. That is a crazy risk

He told them "no" when they came at him with $4 million/year, and they were desperate and came back with a number that he couldn't refuse.

Stupid move IMHO if he wants to continue being a HC. In a weak PAC12, he might have been able to have a decent run at CU, but Michigan State has been mediocre to bad outside of the Dantonio years, and now they are staring down the possibility of NCAA sanctions.

He'll make bank on the buyout though.

Raising a ruckus? I bet those silent movies of your youth were the cats meow?

Also, what you described is precisely what I proffered would happen. So thanks for the confirmation of the pathway forward.

A 9 win season, with recruiting on the uptick, would be a no-brainer.

It will be interesting to see what Pruitt instructs Sexton to do in the event of an 8-4/7-5 season. Does he float his name to other schools to try and get a "don't let him leave" bump, or does he wait and try to hit one out of the park in year 4 and get a serious renegotiation of his contract in all aspects?
