good show of class, I saw that and was glad. He has been tough and had a lot of bad luck. I fpoe he sticks around, Bray is the future but Simms could help him mature.

Nice sentiment, but you know that there are plenty of NFL QB coaches out here that going to criticize.

As for me - he has my thanks and respect for what he gave to the VOLS this year.

props to Simms. I can't imagine how frustrating it is to lose the starting QB job in the middle of the season in a big-time program like this.

Not much different, I'd imagine, than losing your high school spot. A dream crushed is a dream crushed. We've all been through it.

When Bray won it the team around him was starting to mature. If it had been the other way around, Simms would be riding the wave today.

You're out of your mind.

I agree. Hats off.

I'm thankful he spends most of his time on the sideline. He frustrated me way too much. I hate people who say they knew it, but I knew back in the spring that Bray was a lot better than Simms. I'm still not sure why they didn't use bray first. Maybe daddy mcbigbucks had something to do with it.

This was Dooley's call. He had to give Bray time to learn the playbook and gain confidence. He showed he wasn't ready against UTM and it was really what he did after the pick 6 at USC that proved he was ready to take the job. He could have hung his head and given the ball back to Simms, but instead he gathered the receivers and running backs and told them to shake it off and give it another try. That was when Bray showed he was truly ready.

Like many others, Simms has my respect. He led the team through the Spring, Summer and Fall when they needed a true leader. Then, when he saw that Bray had earned the spot, he gracefully stepped aside for the benefit of the team and except for one outburst to the media, did not continually whine or cry about it. He is a team player, is, by all reports, still practicing hard and could come in and handle the offense if Bray was injured. He's all Vol and we can all respect what he's done this year.:salute:

I've mentioned this before, but I don't know where all of the ridicule towards Simms is coming from. Has Bray put up better numbers? Absolutely. But, he was nowhere near ready, nor was the team ready, to have a true freshman at QB. Simms has my respect and admiration. I think we may look back on his QB tenure one day as a bridge of the gap from what once was to what will be again. He was the torchbearer, if you will, and Bray (along with the rest of this young team) is now the future, and UT is back on the rise to prominence. From my perspective, Simms has been a major contributor to what I think will be looked at as the turning point of this program. My hat :hi: goes off to him.

Best quote from Matt all year, "whoever the QB in a couple years wont get touched behind this O-line"

Matt Simms WON the starting job. Tyler Bray WON the starting job. When Bray won it the team around him was starting to mature. If it had been the other way around, Simms would be riding the wave today. He will play more. I'm glad he's showing some maturity on his own.

Matt is a solid, if not inconsistent and conservative player who played well enough to have beaten LSU (not his fault we had 12 players). Bray is a solid, if not inconsistent gunslinger who has more of an upside over the next 3 years. The biggest difference is that Matt was more mature in August, when all we heard was how he threw such tight spirals.

I appreciate Matt for his play this year and hope that he hangs around.

Props to Matt for staying positive. While I too said all along that we would still be winning with Simms as QB and that he would be putting up good numbers, after 4 full games I can see that Matt just doesnt have the same ability to make all the throws that Bray does. Hope Matt realizes its really not a knock against him, he's just up against a special kind of talent. JMO.

these two QB's are miles apart in talent, feel, seeing the field and it is not even close. To think Simms could have produced the way Bray did in the last 4 1/2 games is a joke.

I doubt he reads this, but that said I would like to thank him and tell him I hope he returns but if he makes the choice to move on he personally has earned a fan where ever his journey takes him, I will be cheering for him to do well and he is a lot of what the VLF program is all about, he is a great guy. Poppa Phil you and Momma Simms have raised a fine young man.

hey I'm just saying... Simms wasn't that good at Louisville, and I have not noticed much from him in the first half of the season that would indicate he was very good. I mean he was a good tackling dummy. If he didn't have his one or two wr. open he would just decide to hold the ball. I can not imagine he was showing anything different in preseason ball.

On paper Simms stats are still impressive, Take the word from the professionals, Bray wasn't ready.

Matt is a super backup quarterback....ready to go immediately, should Bray get an injury. Great for our program. I hope stays...

Simms did a nice job for us this year and played hard, but I am so thankful he doesn't play anymore because I never want to see him shoot his guns off again, the kid did a nice job but you can tell he's a little weird and I guarantee he doesn't mesh with the team like Tyler Bray does.

MS did a nice job during the toughest part of the schedule...I'm sure he feels that he earned the right to be the starter especially as the schedule became easier but he handled it just like a team player and a man should. He isn't a next level guy maybe coaching is his calling... I hope he stays around and challenges Bray and Worley to be better.

Kid's got some skills, too bad he bounced around so much. Given time in a system and coaching he could be really good. He is way tougher than his brother, who never got touched at Texas then flamed out .......... Matt might become one of the better NFL stories ever told. If Nick R. can do it so can Matt.

Not to take anything away Matt's toughness, but I think you have characterized his brother incorrectly. He played an entire half of football with a ruptured spleen when he was at Tampa Bay. It does not get much tougher than that.

Greatly appreciate what he did for us this season as well. I really hope he stays around for next year. He is a great backup and should definitely redshirt Worley.

sometimes it's been tough to support simms, but you and everyone else is right he's done a solid job and it would be a great thing for the program next year and looking forward for simms to stick around.
