Probably the weakest team we have had in a while.

The reason they lead the nation in offense rebounds is because they miss so many shots. They rarely score with a second and third chance off the rebounds either. Very hard to watch. How Barnes keeps from having a stroke is beyond me.
Ineptitude in one area making them look great in another.

We’ve had flashes where we look like a top 5 team in the country. And then we have our typical offensive woes.

I just said it another post, but having Cameron Carr at 2 and Tobe Awaka at PF would have this team in completely different position.

I still think we can run, but I’m definitely thinking our ceiling is probably a sweet 16 again.

We should make it thru the first weekend but won’t be surprised if we lose anywhere including the final. Very inconsistent team.
You're more confident than I am, as I wouldn't be surprised by a 1st round exit.

I don’t know why some of you even watch other than to be able to log on after a L with “I told you so”. Rewatch Caillou or something. I’m sure you have all the seasons saved.

Awaka got plenty of PT but was a fouling machine when he was in there. He's doing the same thing at Arizona. Carr had to transfer because of some personal issues

Awaka’s averaged twice as many minutes in his two years at Arizona (20 mpg) than he did at TN (10 mpg). He still gets his share fouls for sure, but it doesn’t hold him back from leading the team by a good margin in rebounding. He’s also the best 6th man in CBB IMO.

Dewayne Brown has great hands like Awaka but I don’t know if he’s as athletic or can be as physical.

Yep we just don’t take care of the ball. The last home game against Vandy for example we had 11 TO’s and gave up 8 steals. Hard to score when you give away 19 possessions
Those steals are part of the turnovers. They actually had more than us, but turnovers have been an issue. I think they’ve improved on it though.

Our ball security has gone from horrific to average. Our free throw shooting has went from dastardly to somewhere between good and dastardly, based on the game.0 those two issues have been the glaring problems all year as well as a superstar freshman who carries us but has the potential to disappear at times.

He would have gotten more PT the next year here too. Surely you're not suggesting his PT wasn't going to change here. It was entirely about NIL money. Spilt milk. It's been 2 years.

I think Brown is more talented and is a better player than Awaka, especially as a Freshman. His ceiling is higher and he has played well when given the opportunity.

This team is limited in two critical areas; shooting and ball handling. Our guards are outplayed almost every outing by our opponents's guars and none of our bigs are as athletic as most of the teams we have played.I am surprised we have won as many tight games as we did. Lots of talent upgrades are needed. We also have to shoot free throws much better.

We lack an alpha and we are soft- By the way, it's not negative to speak honestly about your team. This team is average at best and that is just a a fact of life. Certainly wish they were better.

Would you be surprised to hear that this season Tobe averages 2.8 fouls in 21.4 minutes per game, 1 foul per 7.6 minutes? At UT it was 2.5 fouls per 13 minutes, 1 foul per 5.2 minutes so he has improved. Not exactly a fouling machine.

Estrella averages 2.2 fouls in 17.2 minutes, 1foul per 8 minutes - not much difference

No, I am not surprised I was wrong😉 He's been gone 2 full years. It's silly for posters to keep bringing him up since we made an EE last year without him

There are 350+ teams. UT is a 6 seed in the tournament (so top 24 as 6*4=24) and ranked 16th in Kenpom. That’s above average.

They aren’t average. That’s a fact too. They wouldn’t be a 6 seed if they were average. Thor regular season wasn’t as good as the last 3 years, and they have weaknesses. We will see how far they go,

I don't think Awaka was a good fit here without a lot of scoring from the 1-3 position. Our best sets are with two bigs and Awaka for Barnes style was simply too small and didn't have a mid range game. He fits perfectly in Tommy Lloyd's system.

I simply do not believe that Awaka would produce anywhere close at Tennessee what he is at Arizona currently had he stayed.

Brown will be better than Awaka, possibly by next season.
