Sorry to hear about the UCLA qb and hope he mends well. However, safety or no safety we would have been better off without it and having them punt. Better team did not win but that is life. We can't turn the ball over that many times and expect to win. But even at that we owned the 4th quarter and just could not make the big play...just 2 yards. Oh well...on the SEC play. Fantastic news though....we gained 3 top flight commits today! Must have been very impressed with UT! Go Vols!
I don't know what you are smoking but his knee hit and the ball crossing the plane of the end zone were simultaneous.n
The refs are usually from the visiting teams conference, for one. And for two, if you actually "watched" the replay, his knee was down before the ball crossed or "landed on the plane". So it is actually a safety. Kudos to prince for getting that jaw broke by a tough defense.
He apparently suffered a broken jaw from that helmet-to-helmet hit (which the refs did not call) in the end zone when the refs called a safety that was not a safety. If you do not believe there was a helmet-to-helmet hit, look at the replay.
Why is it that both the refs and the broadcasters did not know the rule on a safety? The rule is this, as I understand it: if ANY part of the ball pierces the plane defined by the edge of the goal line NEXT to the end zone, that is the edge going out of the end zone, then there is NO safety.
And, as so many people get wrong, spotting the ball in football should not be based on where the knee touches the ground but rather on WHERE THE BALL IS WHEN THE KNEE TOUCHES THE GROUND.
Were the officials an SEC crew?
Kudos to Prince for toughing it out.
T-Town Vol. I owe you an apology. Heavy travel all last week for work, way to many airports, non-existant sleep, then EARLY K-town run and a wee hours return to Chatt....then early church. All of that to say that I am usually not THAT off of my game. That must have been frustrating. LOLIt's no use PJ.
There was no way Crompton was going to connect on the long passes neccessary to cover that ground. A short snap, confined punt, with the way our D was JACKED, was the only hope. Without a muffed snap, or a block (which is inherantly more probable in that situation), the game was OVER. I think the outcome efficates my view. Two points meant nothing and the chance of a Crompton QB'd team marching that distance was absolutely zero. Frankly, we are real lucky that it did'nt allow them to increase the margin(ref. the passes to nowhere and the idiotic, stumbling fumble/shovel pass....mercifully called "down")
It's no use PJ.
Congrats to you on the win,Vols will be fine. Tebow will bring some pain , but he will recieve some also . Just ask your qb ,j/k I hope he is ok .Does this matter now?
1. It was safety since the whole ball needs to be out of the end zone.
2. It was a fumble but our RB recovered.
3. I try to be unbiased but UT got lot of calls their way, lot of holding I saw that were not called and phantom false start at the end, if you guys didn't have a QB with a vision that Ray Charles would laugh at I would have been pissed.
4. Walk on Center vs Brian Price... Not good.
5. Lame made the right call on 4th down, we have lot of speed on defense, sweep would have been a loss, a bootleg? You kidding? I would not trust your QB to take a knee without throwing a INT. Go straight ahead, our two staring DT were out on that play, you been doing it all drive long. Right call, bad results.
6. Tebow is gonna bring the pain like you guys are filipino kids who needs circumcision. Watch out,
Good luck the rest of the way guys.:
I completely get what you are saying. I just think that a long snap screw up was the only hope. A few seconds meant nothing. It's not like they had the room to run around playing kill the clock. The only X factor chance in hell that we had at that point was a close quarters long snap. I have ZERO confidence that Crompton could do ANYTHING to score unless it was for UCLA. Any other QB in D1 and I would reserve hope
LOL! I see you're still wiping off that bloody nose our boys gave all 100 thousand of *yall* yesterday.
And Kudos to *yall* for getting your season broke YET AGAIN by the Bruins. (D*mn, how I wish we played you every year)
