Sorry to hear about the UCLA qb and hope he mends well. However, safety or no safety we would have been better off without it and having them punt. Better team did not win but that is life. We can't turn the ball over that many times and expect to win. But even at that we owned the 4th quarter and just could not make the big play...just 2 yards. Oh well...on the SEC play. Fantastic news though....we gained 3 top flight commits today! Must have been very impressed with UT! Go Vols!

Such a shame for Prince and UCLA. Hate to see any player for any team suffer a serious injury. Best wishes for a full/speedy recovery.

Sorry your boy has to sport a piano wire smile for the next month... but it does make this loss go down a bit easier. Hat's off to Prince. He is a tough kid.

I am with ya now PJ. It's been a long couple of days. Sleep deprevity is my only excuse. UCLA would have taken a knee WITHOUT the long snap. All we would lose was time. Big enough man to admit when I am NOT on my game. What an emotional rollercoaster!! In the stands it was impossible to hear and the scoreboard I was looking at had 1 TO still up. Bottom line, I brain-farted and am here to admit it!! LOL

Why is it that both the refs and the broadcasters did not know the rule on a safety? The rule is this, as I understand it: if ANY part of the ball pierces the plane defined by the edge of the goal line NEXT to the end zone, that is the edge going out of the end zone, then there is NO safety.

And, as so many people get wrong, spotting the ball in football should not be based on where the knee touches the ground but rather on WHERE THE BALL IS WHEN THE KNEE TOUCHES THE GROUND.

Were the officials an SEC crew?

T-Town Vol. I owe you an apology. Heavy travel all last week for work, way to many airports, non-existant sleep, then EARLY K-town run and a wee hours return to Chatt....then early church. All of that to say that I am usually not THAT off of my game. That must have been frustrating. LOL

you're just not getting it- they were never going to attempt a punt. Never. The punter (or whoever they even put on the field to take the snap) would have caught the snap, turned around and run out the back of the end zone. Only thing tackling the qb did was save us some time.

agreed....but you are wrong about the saftey, strategy wise that is, UCLA would have run the clock and given us the saftey anyway on 4th down

This whole thread is rather silly and the originaly post is pointless. If your coaching staff is the least bit smart they give up the safety anyway on the punt.

Yes, we simply saved some time by them trying one more play that cost them a QB and a tooth. LOL. Should have taken a knee on THAT play....in retrospect, of course. Goodness, I feel like a Goob!!! Taking my medicine like a man.

Congrats to you on the win,Vols will be fine. Tebow will bring some pain , but he will recieve some also . Just ask your qb ,j/k I hope he is ok .

they could have just lined up in the victory formation in the endzone and the result would be the same. They didn't have to even snap it to the punter

The thing you need to learn about the VOLS is that we just refuse to quit. We don't care who we play. If you guys were on the schedule every year that would be fine by us.

I would have had the long snapper try to hit the M in Manning on the entrance to the dressing room.
