Price increase coming!!

Clearly that's what I said

Can you name a time where every ut fan could afford to attend a game?
…and if you’ve bought a ticket to a sporting event or concert in the last 10 years, this is some of the least shocking news ever.

I’ve been part of a Braves season ticket group for 20 years and our tickets have gone up 40% the last 5 years. None of this is happening in a vacuum.

Perspective is important.

I look at at it as coming of a double digit win season and making the playoffs. Obviously not as nrgstive a view as yours, but we all gotta choose to see things in a way that satisfies us. Some are more content in the misery than others.
You’re right. Realistic perspective is important. I’m ecstatic to be where we are after the 15ish years of misery we went through. BUT there is definitely more perspectives to look at. I’m glad you brought it up. You can church it up with “playoff” appearance all you want.

The realistic portion is we’re paying prices that teams like Texas, bama, Ga are paying. When did we last win the SEC? A natty? Even making it to the playoffs last year we were light years behind the true contenders. So while I’m happy with the trajectory, it doesn’t make me miserable to point out that our pricing doesn’t currently align with recent accomplishment when compared to the rest of the “market”.

For me, they charged more and more during the Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt years, too. Before NIL, it was the same story. Fulmer even downsized the seating capacity because we couldn’t sell all of the overpriced tickets.

Now that we’re winning more than we’re losing, I’m looking at the other 10-2 teams: Missouri and Ole Miss, along with 9-3 South Carolina. Are they having to pay this much? If not, then why is our success more similar to theirs than Alabama’s and Georgia’s?

Surely baseball wins shouldn’t increase the price of football seats..
I just saw SCAR has sold out their season ticket allotment for the first time in history. And the total number of season tickets they offer is a whopping 47,500.

Obviously the demand for tickets vary by school and Tennessee is at the top for demand and has no issue selling 70,500 season tickets even at what some think after "gouging" the fans.

South Carolina makes history with sell out of football season tickets in 2025

If anyone wants to complain, I will gladly take your tickets face value. There 25,000 of us wanting to secure season tickets. Either pay the price or release the tickets, it’s that simple
Until that 7 win season hits, or until we live in 8-9 win mediocrity for 6-8 years. Then you’ll be here crying to.

Apparently I do have to explain supply and demand.

There's a 20,000+ waiting list for tickets so they are in demand. A sports product that is in heavy demand, whether that product is winning or not, is still a valuable product and commands a premium ticket price.

It really is that simple.

When the Stones tour, despite being actual 80yo sloppy playing musicians, they make millions of dollars. Not because they're good musicians, really, but because they are the Stones and no one else is. LOTS of people want to see them whether they are good or not in concert.

When the Vols play, despite not having won an SEC Title or Natty in years, they command high ticket prices. Not because they are the best team in the sport but because they are the Vols and no one else is. LOTS of people want to see them whether they are winning it all or not.

It really is that simple.
Whatever kickback you’re getting, can you cut me in? I to will then come on here and help you promote the ticket office and those raising prices not aligned with results. I will then stand beside you and try to paint everyone who complains as a moron. I just want a sliver.

No one is arguing with supply and demand. Doesn’t mean we can’t disagree with our pricing vs our results. The facts are we are paying elite football school pricing, when we aren’t producing elite football school results. That’s my only point. I know good and well there are enough trust funds out there to buy tickets whether I do or not. I am fortunate enough to be able to choose to buy or not buy.

However, I do feel sorry for the younger generations coming up. The average 25 year old with a few kids can’t afford the experience which is disappointing. I remember being 25 and being able to drive to neyland on Saturday with 50$ in my pocket, buy a ticket and some concessions. I’m not that old (my opinion).

The good news is TV prices are down, and Busch latte is still reasonable. I can still cheer them on from the house and keep $1500 in the bank.

Start winning 6-7 games again for a few years and tix will be more affordable for everyone. Kinda how it works.
We also have record UT student numbers, which means more alumni every year and more added to the waiting list.

In todays climate a program who wishes to be peers with the elite programs, should raise less money? Because they haven't yet been successful?

The money increases are simply an investment in the team for the hope future wins and not reward for past accomplishments of that team, IMO.

I don't fault people that pay these prices for the experience of being there in person. Personally, there's just no value in it for me. The once-in-a-lifetime memory (vs. AL in '22) is so rare. The last time I paid big $ for a big game was vs Georgia in '21. After a great start that was short-lived, it was a miserable experience. The drunk bulldog fans next to us were cussing the Vols from pre-game to the 4th quarter. The "ushers" stood nearby and did nothing to stop it. I left thinking, I paid good money to feel this bad!

I'd rather purchase the biggest & best TV I can afford (a one-time cost) and watch the game with good friends and food. When the game is over, I'm home! To each their own.

The only legitimate complaint about this...I'm tired of the P4 neutral site games and FCS games.

I get it's for "recruiting" and then the FCS games are for bowl eligibility, but to me if you are going to increase prices, we need to see more legitimate games. Hopefully Sankey grows a spine, and 9 SEC games will help, but I'm tired of watching P4 opponents open in a neutral site. I know we played Pittsburgh in 2021, but they weren't even that good. The last legitimately good OOC P4 team in Knoxville was Oklahoma in 2015. That to me sucks. And basketball it's even worse. Three of your games are ETSU, UAB and New Mexico State. That isn't cool. That needs to improve.

But Fulmer said we couldn’t sell out the stadium at 100,000+ so he eliminated 5,000 seats.. Now we’re raising the prices after throwing away all of that money on seating reduction (because we have a waitlist?). Make it make sense?

All the supply and demand folks not even talking about the elephant in the room, Live Nation/Ticketmaster. Face value is a concern of the privileged few atp.

A middleman monopoly is absolutely destroying live entertainment in this country tbh. Thank goodness Live Nation doesn't own Neyland Stadium like they do so many venues in the country.

I don’t know how many more games we will be attending in person, they’ve made it to the point. It’s almost outrageous just to take a family of four for the day to see a football game. The 75 inch TV at home is looking real good.

It won't take that long. I doubt I will ever be in Neyland again.
We’re already there. I consider myself fortunate. I think many on this forum are much more fortunate than they realize. If you have the ability to say yes or no to a UT game in person, you are not the average person.

The truly average person in the East TN economy can’t afford to take a 4 person family to a game on Saturday. That’s 1K in tickets for a good game. Not to mention travel, food, etc.

The cheapest season ticket in Neyland Stadium this year is a seat in the Family Section for $375, plus 13.75% tax, plus a 10% talent fee, plus a $20 handling fee per order. That comes out to nearly $500 per ticket. If someone has four tickets, that’s just under $1,900 they are spending. And those tickets comprise less than 10% of the seating capacity.

That’s reality. Facts are your friends.
I was going off the chart and basing it on one person. Although $500 is not pen nies it is still a long way from what some of the posters have mentioned they are spending.
