Press conference at UT tomorrow

By the time the media gets through dissecting and twisting their every word UT will have to have another press conference to explain the first. They should of sent out a lawyer or Hart to speak for 20 minutes with the coaches seated behind him.

I thought this was going to be about the culture of sweeping sexual misconduct of athletes under the rug. Maybe some specifics about the lawsuit filed against UT by six women and why it isn't true.

Instead of that, we heard how all the coaches get along with each other. We heard how some coaches go to the other coaches games, etc. What a waste of time, and maybe a huge mistake. What say you Volnation?

they are not allowed to discuss the lawsuit imo

If only they would just twist their words, most likely they will add to and remove words to completely change the idea of the press conference. To deny allegations that the athletic dept is creating a culture of rape, and to start a dialogue on the subject of sexual assault. To say bring on the microscope is a bold statement that speaks volumns about the confidence they have as a team of coaches that the culture they are creating is one of excellence rather than one that promotes rape.

Couldn't disagree more. Coaches from the women's teams staunchly defended CBJ and Hart by stating they have never tolerated or supported an environment that is unsafe for women. CBJ stated, "We've been stereotyped and we're taking it personally."

Actually the only rambling I saw was Holly. I think she's feeling the heat and wanted to show her devotion to UT but came across as desperate.

You don't need an hour to get a message across. KISS. Hearing the same thing over and over doesn't help and looks desperate.

Yep.

Spokesmen for the coaches:

We strongly stand behind this universities policies and efforts to eliminate sexual violence on our campus. While no campus is exempt from such unfortunate circumstances over the course of history we know ALL our coaches have done and will continue a tireless job of developing our athletes in all aspects of their lives. While 1 instance is too many and we strongly condemn them involving our athletes we don't believe our department has any kind of cultural issue and this university is a safe one for all it's students and we are working harder than ever to insure that is the case

End presser

Sounds like they are willing to put their name on the line by saying if you accuse one you accuse all for creating a culture of rape. They are all part of the program and would all be part of the problem or the solution to the issue of a rape culture. Sounds like they are offended by the allegations and are willing to stand up for the truth.

And even that could've been released in a statement. You don't need a press conference to get that message across.

What I saw: We are the people being accused of creating a bad culture at UT. It is simply not true. We are doing everything we can to see that our athletes are informed and nurtured to become good human beings. Putting a face on the program.

At the beginning of the press conference, someone (not a coach) said they were not allowed to discuss matters that are currently under investigation. They weren't legally allowed to directly mention the content of the lawsuit.

When your innocent, you want to confront the distortions and grandstanding procedures of the people against you. By saying nothing they just keep blasting away in the media and your rivals keep using it against you. Great move to have a PR, proud as heck of our coaches in that PR. GBO!
Especially going public rebutting the claims against the "culture" at UT. The best IMO was having the main protagonist in the press, Wadwhani, go public how the press conference was an insult against the victims. She lost her journalistic objectivity and became a public activist right then and there. Somebody needs yto call the Tennessean and have her taken off the story, she fabricated the "insult" wholly and in part out of thin air and made it public.

I'm beginning to get the feeling that this public show of solidarity is a sign of just how bad public perception really is right now. The fact that coaches felt the need to get out in front and say "hey everything's fine, our culture is great, there aren't any problems" shows me that there really is a problem.

Yea, you're point makes a lot of sense! Deny there's a problem = there's a problem. :eek:k:

Of course they shouldn't!

You're not getting it.

Someone needs to stand up and say that they talk to the male athletes about respecting women, and no means no, and making good choices about drinking and hanging out in sketchy places.

The right choices should not ONLY be made by females or female athletes. Saying these things in relation to only female athletes is placing the blame on them when bad things happen. This is the very reason UT has a lawsuit pending.

They have speakers who come and talk to these athletes about this constantly. It was mentioned. The coaches are trying to be there for these kids, etc.
