How about we just compromise and says the 2nd/3rd corner spots are still up for grabs and we won't know anything till late August?

Actually all corner spots are up for grabs. Just because Moore and Lanier have hype, don't mean that they will show out this Fall. We expect at least one of them too, but Moore is not guaranteed a spot when he hasn't proven anything yet.

I agree. However, it seems that Moore is going to start in the secondary this year.

I think Waggner is a more of a target because of his whiff on Jefferson and his unaggressive attempt on Lamichael James down the sideline. Two highlight reel plays where he is right in the middle. IMO, when he was moved with Brewer coming along, he was the best corner on the field for UT, and somewhat of a physical one, though he's not physical for the safety position. He's got a nose for the ball. It's not due to luck, when it keeps happening.
I don't know what Teague does in practice and he's a good kid, but I haven't seen him look comfortable at db yet, or show great ball skills, though he played wr
It's not advisable to automatically put Lanier and Moore as starting cb's. Hell, transfer Kenny Oneal was our guaranteed playmaker a few years back. Didn't work out that way.

Before crowning Teague the second CB let's see if he comes out of practice that way. He sure wasn't deserving of it last year, although he played with a turf toe most of the season. I am glad it's open for debate in that we finally have options in the secondary. I believe it will be PW until somebody steps up and takes it from him, then he will move to the nickel.

Prentiss Waggner made the 2010 Scout All America 2nd team. And you guys think he will not be a starter? Hogwash.

Tennessee made the top 5 in the 2005 preseason poll, and you think they will have a losing season? BS!

Those national publications very often just see the interception numbers and assume he was a great player.

Just curious how many vol fans thinks he starts this year?

I can see him getting beat out at corner 2 some point in the year by Lanier. Wouldn't surprise me in the least. I know he had some ints but isn't a great cover corner. He got beat quite regularly last year.

Exactly..If those publications watched him every game and him getting beat often he wouldn't be on that list. Jmo

He can make big plays, so there's a chance, but I don't know. He seems to miss tackles. But I think he will start. I think a lot of you guys are bashing him to just bash him. He's pretty decent.

PW is actually an average cb. He was just in the right place at right times last year

What???? Are you suggesting that's blind luck and good coaching/instincts weren't involved. I would rather have a db that's " in the right place at right times" than a db that is relying on athletic ability to overcome being out of position

Actually, Wilks is in the two deep as of now. I don't think Anderson will play safety coaches seemed to be impressed with him at corner. If the reports of Lanier looking dominant are true, our three best corners (in no order) are Moore, Teague, and Lanier. I will find it hard to believe that Teague and Moore/Lanier aren't the starters to start off the season. I cannot overstate how much the coaches really like Teague as a corner.[/QUOTE]

Still no response where this "info" is coming from.

I am on record as saying that of all the guys who did not play CB well last year, Teague has the most upside given that he was going through a position switch.

You did not understand the point about Daniel Hood, so let me make it simple for you...Although the coaches RAVED about Daniel Hood at DT, he was playing there during the spring because Mo Couch was not on campus.

The coaches similarly liked Teague, who was playing without B Moore or I Lanier here. They are the starting CBs.

Couch is well behind Hood right now and is having trouble getting through workouts

Disregarding the possibility of injury, Waggner starting means we've got at least three disappointments out of Gordon, Teague, Moore, and Lanier.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd be interested in knowing where your info comes from?

I ask because you're always making proclamations "on the record," etc. and you seem so certain of your opinions. Do you just forcefully think Lanier will start, or do you have actual inside info?

Nice. So we can add you to the list of Lanier is fat and will not start also? Or do you just want to be the guy on record that Couch will not start over Hood?

If Couch is not starting in the fall, he died.

Back up, bigshot. I didn't mention Lanier. This isn't juco and you haven't seen Couch in pads on the field against an SEC oline yet, and you haven't seen if he can get through a practice. Yes he should start, but he's coming in as #2 in the rotation.
I guess you knew that Ayres would start games over Montori last year, didn't you.

I have no idea who will start, but at the end of last year the coaches gave Jackson and Waggner the freedom to swing between safety and corner based on what they saw on the field. I wouldn't be surprised to see Waggs at the second corner spot a lot because he gives them scheme versatility.

Also, IIRC, Art Evans is back, and I'm sure he will factor into the rotation at CB despite all the hate he gets on VN.
