Preemptive Strike before the next 3 games

Your football roster is still ranked 13 in the nation in terms of talent, just one spot below Florida. You have 33 four stars and 2 five stars. Your team lacked good coaching last weekend and it showed. Unfortunately, not only does your team need to learn fundamentals of football, but it looks like your coaching staff will have some growing pains too as first timers in their respective jobs.
I think the only worry in the coaching staff is the offensive cordinator. I sure Hope he works out, but his play calling was God awful! I think Pruitt is great and wouldn’t trade him for Mullen, or even the Mullet! Hopefully we bump this thread next Year or the year after and breath out a big sigh of relief. GBO

Yes, 13 out of 14! As my son and I were driving home from the game, he quickly got a text message from a "friend" who attended UF who he hears from once a year... right after the UF-UT game. For some reason the "friend" didn't call in 2016. The obnoxious behavior of UF fans is only exceeded by their vulgar, profane, lack of class!
Hate the Gators and there fans, I almost got Kicked out because my son barely touched one with his empty nacho plate. They suck! Can’t wait till we start beating there ass again.

First thread....flame away.

I have read, cussed, re-read, cussed more and LMAO at many on Vol-Nation. Poor ole Freak must have the patience of Job!!! How many coaching changes will it take? Not to right the ship, but for a great many of the posters to understand, that our last 2 coaches have pulled our beloved Vols to the bottom. Whether from.....lack of recruiting, lack of recruiting talented players, lack of understanding fundamental football techniques or just plain bad coaching. While they may have tried their best.....they just were not good enough to be HC in the SEC.

Enter CJP. Unproven, untried and untested, as a HC, he accepted a job that no really good coach wanted. From what I have witnessed so far, he has Fire, Guts, Determination and common sense enough to hire a great staff. Our current staff already had very good jobs, but they chose to follow him here. The recruiting he was able to accomplish last year, in my opinion, was very surprising. The younger players are performing above all expectations. He knows talent and our staff will coach them up. Whether or not the older players decide to "buy in", is on them.

The next 3 games will, more than likely, yield similar results. Expect slow changes in improvement, and be happy when they surprise someone...Auburn??? maybe. CJP will probably be here at least 4 or 5 years. CPF understands to importance of maintaining stability in a program...something we have not had in 10 years. Support the team and coaches, give them a chance....and quit your B!tch?n.

So the last 2 coaches pulled us to the bottom, but you want us to embrace this guy for the exact same reasons that were given as to why we should have embraced the last 2 coaches at about the same time in their tenures?

And can we please stop with the passionate "he took a job no one wanted" talk? Again, the last 2 guys had the same thing said about them.

Sure...we can stop....whenever we do not have to hire our 7th or 8th choice after many others say they have no interest, before even being asked.

Who else truly wanted the job?

I personally liked it better a few weeks ago when you were still guaranteeing 9 wins. Man, those were some good times.
Once again, I have never once "guaranteed 9 wins" anywhere at any time on this site. I have not deleted any posts so feel free to go back and find where I definitively we would win 9 wins.

That’s based on recruiting. Talent and team personnel can only be judged by development. You can say we have averaged a top 15 class for past 6 years but if you don’t add development and good coaching decisions, it literally means nothing.

The apathy and loser mentality that those ranked 13th talent have isn’t included in that ranking.

Pruitt literally has 25 guys that are his that aren’t coming from a loser culture. They can buy in immediately because Pruitt is all they have known in their short careers. Having 3-4 year guys buying in immediately doesn’t happen with every player.

I recall you typing in threads that Smart could not beat Pruitt. Same threads where you were guaranteeing 8 wins etc etc....How much you betting on the Vols Saturday nostro?

Who else truly wanted the job?

Apparently Mike Leach really wanted it.

We don't know about the others because they didn't make any public noises. But it's a head coaching job in the conference all real competitors want to be in, at a place with a lot of resources and a ton of tradition of excellence.

Other than coaches already at other premiere destinations, only a loser or a lazy coach wouldn't want it. And, of course, we wouldn't want them precisely because of those attributes.

Rule out all the SEC head coaches and any Power 5 coach already at his alma mater. Exclude as well coaches at other top tier programs (not all Power 5 schools count, but about half do--like Penn State, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Clemson, USC, etc.). Every other coach, depending on his personal circumstances, might have had his agent contact us to see what's what. And we'll never know that any of them did.

So yeah, I'll bet Phillip had plenty of choices.

Agree. I posted at the start of the season that the team could be much better than last year's team and end up with exactly the same record. The schedule this year is just that brutal. At this point in the season, though, I cannot see that the team has improved much, if at all, over last year. It is what it is.

Total BS, This is Pruitts team, there is no losing mentality, just poorly coached players. Pruitt has had plenty of time.

I find it laughable to say that he has had "plenty of time." They cobbled together a recruiting class, and have had two camps with a bunch of underachieving players. The unfortunate facts are that our players are not very good as a whole. I really could not care less what their recruiting rankings were, because a majority of our players do not fit our current schemes very well. I am certainly skeptical and concerned about our offensive play calling, but the offense is seriously handicapped by our line play. They don't block well enough to run zone plays, and they are failing in pass protection. I would like to see them air it out more, because I think that our wide receiving corps is a strength for the offense, but we have trouble keeping our QB clean. There are significant areas where we need to improve as a team, but the problem is that many of those areas will only be improved through having players that are not only talented by also committed to what the staff is trying to do. We are still hearing players say things like "snap and clear," and all those holdovers from the previous staff will have to be rooted out before we field a team that will compete against our rivals. That isn't accomplished in the "plenty of time" that Pruitt has had thus far.

Once again, you keep making up lies. Also, this is about the 5th or 6th time I have asked you, please post or screenshot where I guaranteed "8 wins"... Also, it is clear that you are full of it because just yesterday, you claimed I was guaranteeing 9 wins.

If you can't prove your claims, quit blowing smoke.

Only idiots are calling for his head already, but on the same token, you have absolutely no reason to start with the "he gets it" crap again, which is basically what your post says. I hope he is good, but we have very little reason to assume or expect he will be. I will be watching and i hope for his success tho

Bless your heart! Thanks you so much for your excellent football knowledge and wisdom, we are so blessed to have you explain what happened last Saturday evening and the deficiencies of the 2018 Tennessee Volunteers Football team. Did you share with Mullens the lack of discipline and poor defensive fundamentals when Kentucky beat your A$$es? Asking for a friend.
Uh Kentucky is going to beat our asses worse than theirs so..... Don't really get the hate towards the couple of gator posters. Then again I'm a fan and not a fanatic so I don't take a game personally or hate someone cause of who they root for. It's childish really

The difference is when the last two coaches were hired we had to google them, this one not so much.

Dude shut the hell up. Is that why Mullen lost to Kentucky? He should have plenty of time according to your dumb*** comment. There’s a reason FL’s fan base is disliked by so many. Ignorant as hell.

GFOH! FL is a terrible team. It wasn't bad coaching that cost us the game. We gave it to you. You guys made a play or two, but I didn't see anything from you guys.

By stars we may show talent, but this is the softest team ever. They were soft last year and their weak up front.

Jury is out on Pruitt, but I promise you butch didn't do him any favors with the way he handled S&C and the loser mentality he instilled in this roster.
I’m watching Florida against Miss State and you’re crazy. Mullen is doing so much more to help his QB.
Florida took UT cast off coaches and beat our ass.
