Preemptive Strike before the next 3 games

Your football roster is still ranked 13 in the nation in terms of talent, just one spot below Florida. You have 33 four stars and 2 five stars. Your team lacked good coaching last weekend and it showed. Unfortunately, not only does your team need to learn fundamentals of football, but it looks like your coaching staff will have some growing pains too as first timers in their respective jobs.

GFOH! FL is a terrible team. It wasn't bad coaching that cost us the game. We gave it to you. You guys made a play or two, but I didn't see anything from you guys.

By stars we may show talent, but this is the softest team ever. They were soft last year and their weak up front.

Jury is out on Pruitt, but I promise you butch didn't do him any favors with the way he handled S&C and the loser mentality he instilled in this roster.

Yeah stability is what we need, but if you think the Haslam vultures aren't already circling Fulmer & Pruitt then you've got a rude awakening coming.....again.

I have yet to hear opposing fans, even UF fans, harassed and cussed in the manner that my family and friends have at games in Gainesville. There is a reason that polls have consistently rated UF fans as the rudest fans in the SEC. And as a side question, assuming UT EVER beats UF again, will you rush to Volnation to give us your invaluable insights as you were so quick to do on Saturday?

Not rushing to Knoxville. Tired of that town after living in Johnson city for 6 years. But I've got plenty of Vols on my facebook. I congratulated them in 2016 and I will again the next time you win. I would not be surprised we polled that way, but I doubt you guys would be far behind in that poll, if not ahead. Do you have a link to it?

While we may have recruiting stars, the product on the field shows lack of coaching from the previous coaches. Our 4 stars do not play like their 4 stars. ( previous coaching)
Vanderbilt has a roster full of 2 stars and they've managed to win 4 of the last 6 against our 4 and 5 stars. That's because of coaching. A good coach can get a bunch of 2* and 3* players to buy in to his system, win the games they're supposed to, and one or two they shouldn't. A bad coach takes a roster full of 4* and 5* players and goes 4-8.

I honestly don't know what's going on up there. I thought it was just a matter of poor player development by the previous staff. But we shouldn't still be seeing the same mental errors 4 games into the season. The players have come out flat at the start of every game so far this season. I get that against a team like UTEP, but how do you come out flat against your most heated rival? There's something else going on there. I don't know if it's a lack of buy in. I don't know if there's an issue with team chemistry. I don't know. But the problems are much deeper than just player development.

Have other VolNation fans ever noticed that most Florida fans generally cheer for teams other than the Gators... you know: FSU, Miami, FIU, FAU, CFU, and even Notre Dame???

I saw boy butch for what he was, years ago, as did many others-the problem was with 'blind followers', they loved butch (man crush) no matter what he did. We continually heard, he was the greatest recruiter of all time, his 'boys' couldn't say enough good things, then last year happened. Even his hoard of little boys with their man crush, could not save him. Now we get a real football coach, and the butch boys want to burn him at the stake- after a handful of games. I'll be the first to get on the "We need a new coach train", after the end of next season, if we're not getting a lot better. I do not expect a naty or a SEC Championship next year, but I do expect to see the kind of improvement that gives me confidence in CP and where he'll be taking us. I too saw the FL game, I too was sickened, FL out played us, and beat us like a drum. There were a few glimmers of hope, the 'only IF' file is huge. CP has a mix of players that show real promise, and can be stars, he has also be saddled with to many 'champions of life'. He needs some time to sort the wheat from the chaff, and coach up those guys that are here to play some ball-and get rid of those guys that don't seem to have any pride in their play. CP is going to surprise a lot of people, he's the real deal, given a chance he'll take the program back to where we should be. Finally.

100% my feelings in the matter.

It’s nit just an entire roster of underperforming players.

I hope you lose every game from here on out. Now please GTFO

Thanks, but I'll stop b**tchin when they start winning or at least stop absolutely embarrassing themselves on the field.

I can handle a team playing hard and smart and losing. Watching the non stop mistakes and lousy effort gets real old though and it's been going on since mid 2016 with no end in sight.

Now ya'll know why Fulmer was asked to come down and build a fire under some of the OL last week. Even that didn't work.

You mean 13 out of the last 14? And no our team is probably a 6 or 7 win team this season, unless we magically pull it off in Starkville this weekend. On the other hand, we are seeing progress we have not seen before. Will see.

That’s based on recruiting. Talent and team personnel can only be judged by development. You can say we have averaged a top 15 class for past 6 years but if you don’t add development and good coaching decisions, it literally means nothing.

The apathy and loser mentality that those ranked 13th talent have isn’t included in that ranking.

Pruitt literally has 25 guys that are his that aren’t coming from a loser culture. They can buy in immediately because Pruitt is all they have known in their short careers. Having 3-4 year guys buying in immediately doesn’t happen with every player.

Totally disagree with OP. You can't just take away turnovers and how stuff plays out. There were two teams on that field. You know what this is called? Volzheimers. Gators beat you and by 1 year later the history of the sound beating received changed to UT shot themselves in the foot. UF lived in your backfield and our RBs were dragging your DL and LBs a good 4-5 yards after contact.

So here it goes. Call me a troll ... whatever ... don't care. Your team looked weak. Literally. Your team looked like they slacked off in the offseason and didn't hit the weights. You can call me a troll all you want, but that is my observation of the game. Except for maybe a couple plays here and there, it looked like a UF player was winning just every battle they had with their opposing UT player. I noticed this because it was obvious that UF was lacking big time the past few seasons for the same reasons. Great talent on the team yet every time we faced a good DL or OL we crumbled. That is what UT looked like. Honestly.

Your players looked like they quit in the 2nd qtr as well. I think that supports the above point.

Your team looked lost and out of position a lot too.

Take it for what its worth ... an outside perspective. I enjoyed the crap out of the game but I also know exactly how you guys feel right now. We have been living this since 2010.

Gatornator, AKA: Lizard Louie, I "liked" your post because basically, it was the truth. In regard to the hate posts thrown your way, my advice is: Take the old Purity Milk ad as a guide. "Pay no attention to kangeroos."

I do not disagree with you as much as you seem to think, just arriving at a different cause for the problems, and not into the "troll" thing. Honestly, I believe some are so confused and are not sure who to block, some are afraid to make a mistake, and some could really care less. It is this simple. My views are not original, nor are they insightful...….but most of the staff we currently have are proven winners, with the obvious exception of CJP at HC. Taking into account all the changes mentally, physically and schematically, it will not happen overnight. CJP coaches ball protection every day, but he can not carry the ball for them. Lack of heart or desire, losing mentality, not getting to do whatever they want(speculative), being held accountable and responsible for their play, appears to be a new thing for our players. If I had all the answers, I would be making $4mil p/y. My point is that this staff actually has credible credentials, unlike the previous 2. They will get at least 4 years, give them a chance. And our next 3 games, 3 top 10 teams, will probably not be pretty. But, it is always the same meltdown...why? Expectations become unrealistic quickly here. JMO

Be happy when they surprise someone? I was surprised by Saturday's performance. I am not happy.
I could certainly be mistaken but I sense that you are assuming Fulmer himself will stay 4-5 years. For various reasons such as age, health, interest, and pressure from different constituents I find that unlikely.

Yeah ... I think I got my responses crossed to another post. My bad. You didn't mention anything about taking turnovers and penalties away. My bad. I don't really disagree with you ... better put, I really dont know enough about your coaches pedigree to disagree or agree with you.

Bless your heart! Thanks you so much for your excellent football knowledge and wisdom, we are so blessed to have you explain what happened last Saturday evening and the deficiencies of the 2018 Tennessee Volunteers Football team. Did you share with Mullens the lack of discipline and poor defensive fundamentals when Kentucky beat your A$$es? Asking for a friend.

First thread....flame away.

I have read, cussed, re-read, cussed more and LMAO at many on Vol-Nation. Poor ole Freak must have the patience of Job!!! How many coaching changes will it take? Not to right the ship, but for a great many of the posters to understand, that our last 2 coaches have pulled our beloved Vols to the bottom. Whether from.....lack of recruiting, lack of recruiting talented players, lack of understanding fundamental football techniques or just plain bad coaching. While they may have tried their best.....they just were not good enough to be HC in the SEC.

Enter CJP. Unproven, untried and untested, as a HC, he accepted a job that no really good coach wanted. From what I have witnessed so far, he has Fire, Guts, Determination and common sense enough to hire a great staff. Our current staff already had very good jobs, but they chose to follow him here. The recruiting he was able to accomplish last year, in my opinion, was very surprising. The younger players are performing above all expectations. He knows talent and our staff will coach them up. Whether or not the older players decide to "buy in", is on them.

The next 3 games will, more than likely, yield similar results. Expect slow changes in improvement, and be happy when they surprise someone...Auburn??? maybe. CJP will probably be here at least 4 or 5 years. CPF understands to importance of maintaining stability in a program...something we have not had in 10 years. Support the team and coaches, give them a chance....and quit your B!tch?n.
Didn’t read, didn’t have to I get the jist of it... we are beyond awful...it’s no ones fault, anyone who expects anything other than utter garbage is a complete idiot... Pruitt is the second coming of Saban... and oh yeah “ get out of my damn foxhole!!” If you don’t agree. Rodger that, already starting the lubrication process for this weekend...also working on the sunshine speech for after the game.
