Predictions for 2007

I was tempted to write that I agree with you on running back, except that it is painfully obvious to me that Meyer is going to spend about 80 percent of his recruiting time looking for the next McFadden.

That's the only missing ingredient for us right now and you have got to think that if there is some high school senior (or JUCO guy) ready to come in and play in his first year, Florida is going to be at the top of his list.

That and anyone out there that can kick a 30 yard field goal.
well, hopefull recruiting aside, we right now have 3 capable RB's...all of whom will be back next season...i'll take that right now over a true freshman.

besides, you guys don't need a RB...you have Tebow and Harvin remember?

i think UM learned his lesson about kickers this season...at least for UF fans, they better hope so.

I agree with you on field goal kicking.

You MIGHT be right on QB, it is too early to tell.

The rest of that is just insane.

How is that? What parts are insane? Are you going to argue that UF will have better RB's than UT next year? I know you are not that crazy. Might be right at QB? If Tebow is a more polished, composed, and productive QB than Ainge next season then I will fly down to Florida and follow him around everywhere he goes throwing flower petals at his feet for an entire year.

Actually, above I added in that I agreed on the RB thing.

As to QB, I said it was too early to tell because you don't know how Tebow is going to do once he is running the show for an entire game. Does Ainge have more experience? Sure. Is he more athletic or talented? I don't know, yet.

Where I disagreed with you primarily was wide receiver. Even if you have Meacham, I cannot agree with you that your receiving corps will be better than Florida's. I dson't think anyone coems close to Florida at that position.

Same with OL. We really improve there next year as everyone is back (I believe) from a year where they came in with no college snaps between them.

Defensively, Florida remains very loaded and while we lose a lot we have some good players coming in and should be pretty strong again.

The difference here gator is that you are ASSuming Tebow will be good. We know Ainge will be good. That is the issue.

Well I certainly agree that Ainge ought to be an excellent QB next year. Absolutely no reason to doubt him at all.

But I'm not assuming anything as to Tebow next year other than potential. I mean, Ainge will surely be productive. Tebow clearly has talent, but how that is going to translate into productivity remains to be seen.

I can tell you I am very hopeful and optimistic. But I don't think anyone knows for sure how good or bad he'll be.

Overall I'm saying that given what we know of Tebows' raw ability and given the tools he will have to work with and given what we have seen so far, I don't think anyone can yet say he will be markedly better or worse than Ainge in terms of productivity.

No, you are ASSuming that what you have seen him do in VERY limited play that he will be good. We saw Ainge as a starter be very good. It is foolish to not give the edge to UT in teh QB slot right now for next year.

By that definition, then, I am currently foolish.

By about October 1, 2007, I might not be. But right now I am.

Meachem, Vinson, Taylor, O'Neal, and Hancock will be as good as UF's 1-5 WR's. I understand that is certainly debatable. But, that is my opinion. Even as fast as UF is, and trust me they will tell you all about how fast they are, they will not put a 1-3 on the field that is faster than the combo of Meachem, Vinson, O'Neal. Those are three legit sub 4.4 runners. Does that automatically mean they will be great? No. But, we already know Meachem is and he gives our WR corp the edge because he is head and shoulders above the UF #1 WR. If he decides to leave, then obviously this is a moot point and UF will have a decided edge at the position.

And, I know UF OL will be better. I stated that in my first post.

"Defensively, Florida remains very loaded and while we lose a lot we have some good players coming in and should be pretty strong again." ---Well, UT did not lose much AND also has players coming in and should be very strong.

Personally I hope Tebow plays alot in the national championship game and runs over a few buckeyes. The Michigan crowd I associate with hope the Buckeyes kill the Gators.Personally, I hope the Gators win (and win big) and shut up all the cry babies that dogged us so much for complaining about the Peyton Manning Heisman debacle.

I'm all for moving a safety into the box and letting Tebow beat us with the jump pass. I believe I like our chances in that contest.

Come on, LG, you cannot even pretend that you are comfortable in a game where Tebow is asked to win with his arm, but you know that game is coming.

If all Tebow could do was run, he wouldn't be at Florida. Alex Smith could throw, and Tebow has a nice tight spiral when he throws normal passes.

They couldnt put away a crappy uga team in spite of five turnovers.
They lost to a team that did not score an offensive touchdown.
They beat the worst UT defense in years by a point.
They needed tons of miscues to beat Lsu.
They needed a fake punt (great call, though) and an absolute awful punt return by Ar-kansas to win the sec cg.

You left out that impressive victory over Vandy.

The truth is, the margin between first and 6th in this conference is very, very thin; Florida was tops this year, but they were not that far from being a 4 loss team heading into the bowl game (Auburn, UT, Vandy, SC.)

Next year's Gator team is a mystery, although it is a frightening one. They lose a four year starter at quarterback, their best wide receiver, their starting tailback, and half of their defense. They return a dangerous hb/wr hybrid and a bruising quarterback that nobody seems to know what to make of yet into an offense that is designed for hybrids and bruisers. And they will replace all of the guys they lose with very athletic inexperienced former highschool all-americas.

Does that keep them ahead of us in the east? I honestly have no idea. I think if we can find a playmaker at receiver by that game and teach our offensive line how to run block, we will have a chance to go into the swamp and win. But I really have no feel for what kind of Florida team we will face.

1. Meach remains a Vol when he realizes he will be 4 or 5 WR taken in draft.
2. UT mops floor with PSU
3. OSU kills UF and yes Urban cries again.
4. Bruce and the boys get 2 NCAA wins
5. OSU (Cowboys) beat bammer and I smile even bigger.
6. UT football team surprises even the biggest of all negavols and has a very good year.
7. HateVol is so taken by the work of CPF and staff he leads an effort to give him a HUGE raise. :)

Wow, based on your predictions for 2007 I'm glad that you hate Derek Dooley. I think you went 0-7. Lets hope ur wrong again

1. UF beats OSU in NT game, and Harvin is the star of the game with >140 yards of total offense and three touchdowns (2 receiving, one rushing). RIGHT

2. Tennessee handily beats PSU at a rainy Outback Bowl game. WRONG

3. Gators make it to Elite Eight but come out flat and get punched in the mouth by N Carolina. WRONG I THINK

4. Common wisdom in mid-February is that Tennessee needs to make it SEC tournament final to get into NCAA. Tennessee does so, losing in second round to a Big Ten team in an 8-10 matchup. WRONG I THINK

5. Florida beats Tennessee in September football game by 20 points. RIGHT, 39 POINTS

6. Bobby Bowden announces retirement for end of '07-'08 season.WRONG

7. U Miami finishes regular season and is not bowl eligible. RIGHT

We'll go 10-4, and win the Eastern division, before beating Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl.

Watch me get this totally right.
