agree about Leak...can't see him making it big in the NFL...
Tebow though, and obviously this is way early...but i could see him turning out kind of like a Matt Jones type in the NFL at some point.
Mitch Mustain did not run the spread. Springdale AR highschool ran a Hurry Up No Huddle and threw a ton. He along with his fellow Bulldog teamates Cleveland (frosh TE) and Williams (Frosh WR who first chose UF and then decomitted and chose Arky) were very lethal. They occasionally threw in a wrinkle of the option but they were a verticle offense. McFadden also played some High school qb and that gave Gus Malzahn (former Springdale HS coach) the idea of putting him in what Arky calls the "Wild Cat" offense. McFadden is a freak of nature back that can do a ton of things. However, the "Wild Cat" was used more once Mustain started slipping in his performance. Now, would you like to tell me about the Arky team?
Basically, this spread style option is now built around a passing AND running quarterback. This makes those defenses pay that commit their safeties to the run. This turns the option defender back into a decision maker.
that's kind of why i prefaced the whole thing with the fact that this was "way early"....and that i "could see" that comparison. Why? Jones was one of the best atheletes we have seen in the SEC in years. He would run circles around Tebow. He was a starting QB and was a starter for their BB team. He could run like a dear and could catch. Tebow might make a tight end if he is lucky.
Go find Gus Malzahn's books and tell me about what offense you believe they are running here at AR and were running at Springdale.
IMO the spread option gives defenses an opportunity to knock the QB out of the game. Most teams try to protect the QB.
Spread formations dont have a TE or RB available to block in case of a blitz. Its been described as "duck and chuck" with short passes and where the QB gets nailed a lot.

You have to have a very physical QB to make this offense work, one that can take a lot of punishment. Its hard to find someone with that ability and can throw the ball well and make quick decisions.
Volbeef, finally got some validation huh?Thank you!

and i do agree with that analysis. but that rationale is based upon our perception of the typical SEC pocket qb.
i keep saying it...it depends on the personnel you have running this offense as to how successful it will be. Tebow is designed for it. Will he get hit? yeah sure, but so does every qb at some point. Will tebow get hit more? yes he will, but based on what i've seen, he can take it. he can dish it too...
I don't live for nor do I need validation Jake. And I think Okie is more in your camp than mine but just pointing something out. Every offense and defense is successful or not due to the personnel? So what is your point?
I stand by my prediction that they will be succesful early but suffer later. These D coodinators are not dumb and neither are the kids playing defense. You have to be able to go verticle. That is one of the best things Cut has brought back to UT. I got so tired of the darn screen pass that CRS was using 700 times a game.
that the people running that offesne at FL vs. some of the other programs discussed so far, will be leaps and bounds better, and regardless of what defensive coordinators do next year, at some point, those atheletes will just prove out to be better than the defensive atheletes they play against. And who said they wont' go vertical? i think you'll see the pass plenty from them next year.I don't live for nor do I need validation Jake. it won't matter what adjustments are made throughout the season.
And even if it did, Meyer proved this year, he is also capable of making adjustments as the season goes along.
Florida will be very good next year, barring key injuries or being careless with the football consistently.
i agree. Florida will be better though. I think Florida and LSU are, on paper, the best two teams in the SEC going in to next year. There's a news flash. How about this one. UT will be good next year. Or this one LSU will be good next year or Auburn or UGA...![]()
oh, i know, and it's not really giving up...just a "prediction" based on what i know right now. There is a lot of time between now and then. I'mnot ready to crown anyone or give up yet.
