But do we have competent SEC receivers? We have one guy with any real experience, and he didn’t set the world on fireOf his INT’s, how many of them were related to the receiver not being at the correct placement? If that was an/the issue, surely with competent DI SEC receivers, that would no longer be an/the issue.
Seemed to confidently pull up after the snap only to find that what he thought he had wasn't there. Focusing in on one WR as if he expected him to be open while another guy ran free even in the same window. Gave up on plays too soon. To me, it looked like DCs discovered ways to disguise their D in ways he couldn't pick up on.What are you looking at specifically which gives a sense that he struggled with line calls and coverage reads? Is that a stat like sacks or throw aways? Or, was there something the coaches said which clued you into that?
Moreso an eye test based on your experience and a sack stat kicker than other hard data points?Seemed to confidently pull up after the snap only to find that what he thought he had wasn't there. There were times with various receivers when it looked like he expected them to do one thing but they did something different. Someone read the coverage wrong. It doesn't make sense that it would be the receiver all the time.
My personal opinion is that the OL wasn't at fault all the time. They were excellent in run blocking so it isn't as if they lacked physical ability. UT's sacks allowed increased. I don't think it is because they suddenly started sucking.
Correct, they were not...Nico was absolutely terrible at avoiding sacks. He was one of the worst in the country for all starting QBs. Conversely Aguilar has been one of the better at this.Seemed to confidently pull up after the snap only to find that what he thought he had wasn't there. As much as you dislike me, I’m still going to like this because it’s very worthy of my same sentiment.Seemed to confidently pull up after the snap only to find that what he thought he had wasn't there. He obviously did not want to learn the offense that CJH runs. Coach even tried to figure out how to learn and install the pistol formation based offense that Nico ran in high school and the ungrateful young man still pulled the stunt with UCLA. As long as the QBs we have in the room right now don’t go rogue, I feel we will be far better than we would have been otherwise.I think you are right but also that he may be better than Nico would have been. I was kind of disappointed that Nico wasn't further along than he was. They invested a year with him behind Milton but even by the end of last year he seemed to still struggle with line calls and coverage reads. Maybe expectations were too high. Maybe he would have grown into it with an off season. His physical talent is unquestionable and better than Aguilar's.
But we've seen all of that before. You recruit guys on their talent but you can't know how their mind for the game will develop until they play against higher competition.
I hope you are right about QB this fall. No doubt there are huge incentives for all of them to work hard.He obviously did not want to learn the offense that CJH runs. I don't remember disliking you. I lock horns with people here from time to time. Only a few have I found a reason not to like. Mostly the frauds like Dobbs4Heisman.As much as you dislike me, I’m still going to like this because it’s very worthy of my same sentiment.
Right now, before the season begins, would u trade JA for Diego Pavia?Being a staunch Packers fan, I was a big Aaron Rodgers fan for many years. That is, until he got flaky as sh*t. Nearing the end of his time in Green Bay, Rodgers would mentally check himself out of 2-3 games per year and it was if he really wasn't even on the field. Drove me nuts. Guy has/had the talent to lead team to Victory but, he simply lost his focus. And don't get me started on how every week he'd come to play with a different hairdo. WTF? Boy was messed up in the head and then last year, much to my dismay, I saw a bit of him in Nico Suave. UT sure as heck does not need no stinkin' primadonna on the field, not now, not never!!
People say Joey has grit. I like grit. Especially on the football field. I'm pulling for him to be our starter and to play with the kind of grit and determination we've seen from a few V'sFL like White, Whitten, Manning, Wilson and a cast of others. We, VolNation, owe it to our tradition of fielding champions, to support Joey and give him a chance. And no, he ain't Nico. Thank God!!!!! Go Vols
Every QB Josh Heupel has ever brought under his tutelage has improved. I honestly think Aguilar's propensity to take risks will serve him go hear t tewell. You almost prefer that to someone afraid to make tough throws. Heupel will get the turnovers down and use his gunslinger mentality as an asset.
