Yes, the reason is there are 32 of those jobs in the world and LR is one of about 10 who got an interview last year.
So his inability to get one of 32 GM jobs, last year, means his opinion is worthless? How many people do you suspect get interviews at all? You don't throw your name into the GM hat, they call you and if they do, you go. You're suggesting that only 32 humans know what they're talking about. My cousin is the director of pro personnel for an NFL team, I bet he'd be disheartened to find out his countless hours of scouting mean nothing....until he gets a GM job in 2 years, at which point his opinions will matter?
How do you think someone gets the job if nothing they do beforehand reveals any knowledge? Why have a director of pro personnel (Riddicks former job) if none of them know anything. Your contention that if you can't get one of 32 GM jobs, you know nothing, is a bit ....extreme?
Riddick knows the game, he gets offered NFL jobs every year, but he'd only leave ESPN for a GM job, one he may get. The fact that he lost out to a child's hero (Lynch) says more about what an imbecile SF has running things than it says about LR.
Riddick wont take a job in the NFL if it's not the GM job and with a coach he wants to work with. He pitched himself and McDaniel, York wanted Shanny ....because of that, Riddick knows squat about football? Agree to disagree there. I have a lot of family who has coached and worked in football for a long time, none are GMs, but they see things few do and I think it would be silly to dismiss their opinions.
