Pre-Florida week week

ok one game in a down sec east. to a team that has a 70 year old coaching it. USC got lucky to win 11 that year. we had to rally to win. butch does fine playing from behind. he doesn't get conservative and scared and sit on a lead when we are behind of course. that's the one game that we weren't projected to win that we did. we were even favorites against UF last year if I remember correctly lol

Who gives a damn how old he was? That USCe team beat #5 Mizzou, #6 Clemson, #19 Wisconsin.

And who cares on how we had to win? Do you think that OU discounts their win against us because they were down 17? That's why you play the whole game. Tired of this "miracle catch" bull. Welcome to football.

I left the stadium last year simply saying "10 to f'n 9" all the way to the Church on the hill just off Henley street...

The OU game was a similiar feeling, but not as bad seeing as OU was a good team and Muschump was fired from the gators...

Either way Go Vols!

I imagine this game will play out much like the OU game. Offense will struggle late, defense will be gassed by 4th Q, Treon Harris comes in to win it. Prove me wrong, Vols. Please. Also, WTF is up with that Gif? I'm going to have freaking nightmares.

I loved the win don't get me wrong. I love UT. I honestly really like butch jones. I hope he can be the guy to take us back to the top, but we have the talent, and still cant seem to win big games when they are winnable! in game adjustments and game management have been horrible in big games when leading was my point. he needs to prove he can win the big ones that we are in charge of. no excusing for blowing the UF game last year or this OU game

Heard on the radio this AM that the UF D is allowing 1.8 yards per carry on average.

Preseason analysis said that UF secondary is the best in the SEC.

That is not a good matchup for UT.

I don't know much about McElwain's ability to coach, but I do know how CBJ handles big games. More importantly, I know how he handles the UF game specifically.

Definite overall advantage to UF.

So far too we have involved the tight ends a lot in the first 2 games and with 2 freshman linebackers who will be matched up on said tight ends that could be a big factor as well in the game.

I gotta say, this is spookier than watching Poltergeist by yourself for the first time in an empty house during a raging thunderstorm with loose shutters. What is on that kids mind???? Perhaps he's in love?

LG, I've posted this elsewhere, but as it stands I think we SHOULD win, but will we is another question. Given our performances versus opponents, I think UT will be the better team on the field.

UT's Opponents:

BGSU - very, very efficient offense, may win 8-10 games this year and possibly their conference.

Oklahoma - potential to win the B12 when their offense clicks properly, but may be hindered by O line play. Still a very dangerous team.

UF's Opponents:

NMSU - Coming off a 2-10 campaign with wins over a 1-11 Georgia State team and Cal Poly. Currently 0-2 with a blowout loss to you guys and a loss to a 1-1 Georgia State team who lost their opener to Charlotte.

ECU - The ECU team you guys beat by 8 last year was better than the version you beat this year by 7. They lost a lot of key pieces including their OC who is now at Oklahoma, ironically I guess.

If we can move the ball on offense we can win by 2-3 scores, in a 31-17 type game. If not, I stand by that it will be much like last year in that whoever scores last wins. I think we can win given your young O line will have problems against our pass rush. Your freshman LT is good for a freshman, but he is still just that, a freshman, and will have his hands full versus Barnett. Playing in the Swamp does worry me though.

I just hope for a good, injury free game, and obviously a UT win.

Again you obviously are only looking at the score of the ECU game. We had 3 defensive starters out including Hargreaves. We had 2 missed field goals and gift wrapped them a short td drive with a turnover inside our own 20. Game was not really as close as the score dictated. Plus we could have run the last play in on the fumble but didn't.

Because you just got stuffed on 3rd and 1. Doesn't mean I agree, but meh.

I don't like kneeling the ball with 40 seconds and two timeouts, but maybe I'm alone.

That is exactly what I said......Oklahoma had all the momentum at that point. I say try a shot down the sideline and see if you get a flag or put it only where your guy can get it.

We tried that on the opening play against Vandy last year and it was picked. Thankfully it got wiped out by a penalty, but still. The coaches no longer trust Dobbs to throw it deep unless he absolutely has to.

Aesius, I have to say I like your posts and logic in dealing with other team's fans. Seriously, thanks for the insight and interaction.:good!:

I can't decide which scenario spells more trouble for the VOLS, FL suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of KY or FL actually finding an offense during that game.

Then welcome to an underachieving coach.

One win in 2 plus years that even remotely matters.

Every other big rival beat Tennessee. Georgia. Florida. Alabama. Mizzou.

Hell even Vandy split with the best staff in America.

man you have been disappointed , and depressed a lot the past oh 8-10 years haven't you? I love the vols with all my heart, I hate hate hate it when they lose, but im also a realistic person, not on crack , and don't like to lie to myself or others. that being said I am never down on the kids that play the game, but I do get frustrated at the millionaires roaming the sideline. I hope we beat them by 50, but until butch proves to me he can win big games im not gonna go into a game like this expecting to win. hoping yes expecting no. I mean butch is a great recruiter, but the only thing he has done so far on the field is win the ones he should , lose the ones we were expected to, and when close or up in a big game CHOKE! so he has some work to do!

Yes, lots of disappointment and frustration. I truly feel Butch is take us to where we want to be. Is it taking a little longer than our impatient fanbase would like? Yes, but with how he has been recruiting and how he has us competing at a level we haven't seen in a very long and dreadful time. And given what all we've been through. I can't help but to be positive, support the guy, and trust that he will build a successful program here. The very last thing we need is another coaching change. One very important thing we need is coaching stability.

But I agree with you on hoping we win every game. Do I expect us to win every game this year? No. But with the direction Butch has the program heading, it won't be long until that is a legitimate possibility and expectation.

lol what exactly were you expecting the first two years out of a program that just went 5-7 twice? I think he's improving on pace.

What are you expecting?

5-7 more years of close calls and moral victory championships?

Way to dodge answering the question. Please, hit another thread *****ing.

5-7
7-6
8 or more wins this year going for the east
etc, etc.

I do have to compliment you on your whopping 2 years of patience. Please, let's get our 5th coach in a decade.

I don't recall saying fire Butch. But I do recall pointing out that you sheep act like he does no wrong.

Funny you've already penciled in 8 wins this year.. Hilarious, actually.

This team will not win 8 games this regular season.

Florida, Bama, Georgia... losses almost certainly.

That means any other team that actually beats Tennessee goes against your improving every year theory.

It will play out one way or another...

Definitely not penciled in. It's my expectation. He may or may not meet it, but I do love your faith in UT.

Blind faith in the face of constant choking is silly.

My love for UT is not tied to any coach. It's the university and teams.

I have no faith in Butch to win big games. That has absolutely zero to do with my feelings for the University of Tennessee.

Well, we certainly should win. But after last years game I will never count my chickens before they are hatched. That game is cursed and it will take some good mojo to turn it around. Hopefully Butch has some chicken bones and a voodoo doll prepped.

Heading to Gainesville, with my daughter, to pull for the Volunteers. Ten in a row is enough. Go Volunteers! Whip the gators

We SHOULD win. Should and will are two very different words. We have the better team, but I've watched every game of this streak and wouldn't be surprised to see another ugly loss, about 14-10. Frankly wouldn't be surprised either way.
