Prayers for Pat Summitt

One doctor told Pat to retire and she looked at him and said: "do you have any idea who you're dealing with?"

Saw a tweet from Cam Tatum that it was not an earthquake in the East Coast, it was Pat Summitt shaking the entire east coast to show she's still Pat Effin' Summitt!

Don't be so sure. Look at Florida State recruiting after Bobby Bowden retired, and he's considered just as much of a legendary coach as Pat.

I hear you, but I don't think women's basketball in Knoxville, TN compares to Div1 football in Talhassee, FL, from a young 18 year old prespective. Pat Summitt is the attraction of young recruits to women's basketball at TN. Bowden was not the "ONLY" attraction of young recruits to men's football at FSU.

I am not familiar with dementia and other diseases that attack the brain. Is this usually a swift down fall or could it be a few years before symptoms start to show. Or did she go to the mayo clinic because symptoms were already showing.

No simple answers for that.

She stated she went to the MAYO clinic due to concerns for her health.

My past experience with dmentia from AD was it steadily progressed.

Dimentia itself is pretty much the symptom, so going to say symptoms were already showing

The rate the alzheimer's progresses at though may depend on how aggressive it is (I was told early onset tends to be more so)

Well I was wondering about her having to go to the mayo clinic. I always thought the mayo clinic was for instances that stump regular doctors. Nevertheless, terrible news, and I hope Pat's partner and family get all the support and strength they can get.

Pat you are a class act and the best Basketball coach in America.Mens or Women. You have made the womens game what it is today. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

The two greatest coaches at Tennessee any sport and the two that will be remembered over 100 years from now - General Neyland and Pat Summitt.

She's still known by most in this area as Pat Head. She is a legend in coaching but most important she is a fantastic person that never forgot where she come from. Proud to say I attend the same high school where her jersey is still hanging, and know several of her family members.

God bless Pat from all the folks back home.

My grandmother died from AD. It's a terrible, terrible disease. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

This does belong in this forum along with every forum because of the support she has shown for every sport, and the reputation she has brought this university. She has been diagnosed with dementia, and she hopes to still be able to coach this year.

o noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.I wanted her to coach for more and more yrs :(,and that id get to meet her.All my good thoughts go out to her family

I just read where Geno said

"I was shocked and saddened to hear about the news regarding Pat Summitt's diagnosis," UConn coach Geno Auriemma, a longtime adversary, said Tuesday afternoon. "There is no doubt in my mind that Pat will take on this challenge as she has all others during her Hall of Fame career -- head-on. I wish her all the best."

I am shocked and saddened by this news. I have had the privilege of meeting her on several occasions. She is, without a doubt, the classiest coach in any sport! My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family knowing first hand what they are preparing to deal with.
