Practice #7 Updates 8.11

"OL took a big step forward"
That's very encouraging, especially with Jackson out.
Real cool with Jashon

Really hate that for Jackson. This year could be special for the Vols and he caught a bad break. Hope he gets healthy soon

someone said something about tonights practice being closed off. will we get no update?

Was wondering the same. I know there is someone there that can sneak some info

JP.. I would love for you to put together a graph or whatnot of our Oline roster from 2009 to present showing who started/played and what year the player was in the program.. Maybe go two deep and compare it to a program with stability in a head coach during that same time period. I suggest Georgia, being they are a team from the East.

Reason why I requested this, I have read comments about UT and performance, but I believe some quickly forget how the Oline (Dline also) hit bottom as far as experienced / seasoned players go.

A starting Oline normally is full of 4th and 5th year players, we all know this, but some I think forget or just don't see it unless it is a picture painted for them.

I requested this in another thread, but believe it got buried. I thought this might be interesting. I attempted this, but JP does killer research and presentation!

Thanks, Vlad, I appreciate the kind words. Yeah, I can try to put that together, but I gotta warn you, I'm lazy, so, it might not come quickly. :)

So your hypothesis is that from 2008 through 2014, we'll see the experience slowly depleted over time, from a bunch of RS Jrs and Srs down to where we are today with freshmen and sophomores taking up perhaps half of the two-deep in the OLine? Is that the research task?

Yes sir! You are right on the money! SEC is played in the trenches. I remember Coach Fulmer always having a deep Oline.. We lost that, but I don't think anyone has illustrated how bad it got (we know though). This also will correlate with RB (this can be debated lol) production etc.

I'm a visual / numbers person.. Thought it would be interesting to do a comparison.

You post some interesting thought out topics, love your research and insight. Keep it up!

I am a proud Fiji class of 72, Curt Watson, Bill Emmendorf and Ben Bass.

Well I was going to send you a private message, but I can't figure out how to do that. I'm also a Fiji, but class of 2012, and a founding father of the chapter at the College of Charleston. :)

Hmm, I'm having trouble finding two-deep rosters, or even starting rosters. Found starters for 2008, but no two-deep. Can't find anything other than a full team roster for 2009.

Anyone know of a source for historic starter / two-deep rosters, covering every year from 2008-2014?

Vlad, the 2008 starters I found are enlightening, all by themselves. The OLine that year had 12 years of previous experience:
-- LT Ramon Foster (Sr - 3 yrs)
-- LG Anthony Parker (RS Sr - 4 yrs)
-- C Josh McNeil (Jr - 2 yrs)
-- RG Jacques McClendon (Jr - 2 yrs)
-- RT Chris Scott (Soph - 1 yr)

Compare that to one potential starting lineup we could have if the 2015 season started today, with 8 years previous experience:
-- LT Kyler Kerbyson (RS Sr - 4 yrs)
-- LG Brett Kendrick (RS Soph - 2 yrs)
-- C Jashon Robertson (Soph - 1 yr)
-- RG Jack Jones (Fr - 0 yr)
-- RT Coleman Thomas (Soph - 1 yr)
[note: put RS Sr Mack Crowder in at C instead, and the 8 years goes up to 11]
