• Jauan Jennings beat Justin Martin on a fade route (pass via Quinten Dormady)
• Marquez Callaway schooled Shaq Wiggins on a quick slant (pass from Jarrett Guarantano)
• Latrell Williams beat Cheyenne Labruzza on a double-move (pass via Will McBride).

For the first time in fall camp, we got to see Tennessee run through its full pass-skeleton drill down in the red zone. It wasn't the best period for the quarterbacks or the receivers, though

But other times, both guys struggled with accuracy — particularly on a few slants and skinny posts. Mike Canales continued to repeat his favorite mantra “pinpoint accuracy” during the session.*

Jennings dropped two balls, as did freshman Joshua Palmer. Tyler Byrd, working on the outside, got a long talking to from Butch Jones about his route depth.*

Josh Smith and Brandon Johnson both had great periods, though, with Smith seeming to grab a tighter hold on the starting slot spot.*

During OL work Friday, Robertson got a lot of action at right guard, with Thomas at center and Jack Jones at left guard.

The main returners were Evan Berry, Tyler Byrd, Nigel Warrior and Ty Chandler.

Jauan Jennings pulled down a tough catch on a fade matched up against Justin Martin with Quinten Dormady the quarterback, and Marquez Callaway shook Shaq Wiggins off the line on a slant and Jarrett Guarantano delivered a dart on target for the score.

Freshman wideout Josh Palmer got enough separation against Baylen Buchanan and hauled in a back-shoulder throw, then Latrell Williams made a leaping catch on a fade from Dormady against freshman Cheyenne Labruzza.

Rashaan Gaulden recorded the first "win" for the defense by breaking up a fade pass intended for Tyler Byrd, and D.J. Henderson got a hand on a slant pass to make it two in a row for the secondary.

The defensive backs also won the last two reps, with Marquill Osborne and Nigel Warrior using great coverage to force incompletions on passes intended for Jeff George and freshman Jacquez Jones.

Staying at linebacker, Quart'e Sapp remained in a green non-contact jersey, as did cornerback Emmanuel Moseley.

Coleman Thomas got some work at center with Jashon Robertson next to him at right guard, and redshirt freshmen Nathan Niehaus and Devante Brooks also got some work at right tackle. The battle at left guard rages on between Jack Jones and Venzell Boulware.

Redshirt freshman Ryan Johnson continues to get work at center, along with Robertson and Thomas.

Dormady is always the one getting the first reps, always the one working with the centers that are high on the depth chart and always the one making the calls to other quarterbacks when all four are in on the same drill.

Butch Jones confirms Chance Hall will be out for the season and undergo surgery. Will redshirt this year.
-Austin Bornheim

.@UTCoachJones also said OL Trey Smith, Brett Kendrick and Marcus Tatum were out today. He said one or two of those could be back tomorrow.

Butch said #Vols RFr WR Latrell Williams is really improving every day. Big new for Tennessee. That kid can F-L-Y.

Let the hitting begin! This is when you find out about your team: when the pads go on!

And as always, Fingers, we really appreciate everything you do

I like Kongbo's whole demeanor. He definitely seems more relaxed. Maybe that will translate to the football field. He for sure has the physical tools

I noticed that too. Watched his other presser. He talks about being selfish last season. Only being out for himself. Said he's more team oriented this season.

It definitely seems like he's learned some valuable lessons. That's a sign of maturity

Love the interviews with the players. They all sound intelligent and are well spoken. I can remember the days when players actually did not sound intelligent and I wondered how in the world they were passing those college classes.

Looking real iffy that they'll be practicing outside based on the current radar.
