From 247 Sports: The Vols worked in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts during an approximately two hour workout on a sunny late fall afternoon in Knoxville. Two practice periods were open for reporters to watch, but photography and video werent allowed for one of them.
For the third consecutive week, the Vols spent Tuesday in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts. Jones mentioned after last weekends 27-24 win over South Carolina that the Vols have been too banged up to practice in full pads for a while, and apparently that still was the case Tuesday. In fairness, though, its not at all uncommon for college teams to practice in full pads less and less as the rigors of the season lead to more nicks and bruises.
SAME GREEN TEAM: The same trio of players who have been in green, limited-contact jerseys for a while sophomore running backs Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara and sophomore wide receiver Josh Malone were in green, limited-contact jerseys Tuesday.
O-LINE STUFF: We didnt notice or hear of any major changes to the first-team offensive line, but its worth reporting that sophomore Brett Kendrick who hasnt played in a few weeks while battling through a couple of injuries was on the practice field Tuesday in at least a limited capacity. Of course, its also worth noting that Kendrick did similar things last Tuesday but didnt play against South Carolina.
Junior wide receiver Marquez North continues to practice, but he still continues to look less than 100 percent healthy, and well see if he plays this week against North Texas. On the surface, there seems to be little reason to play him against the Mean Green. But well see what happens there.
Quay Picou and Stephen Griffin got their stripes removed.
MAHONEY on injuries: I think as a staff offensively we have put together a plan to deal with any potential scenario.
AZZANNI: At this point in the season, as much as you'd like to work on fundamentals, you have to work on scheme.
STRIPLING: I think Owen Williams is doing a really good job. He had a little something to prove on Saturday.
Mike DeBord said he chose not to run Dobbs much in the 2nd half vs SC and kinda sorta hinted at it being an injury-influenced decision.
