Here's a more obscure but definitely one of my favorite Robert Duvall films The Great Santini. Gametime you seen this one?

He was a force in so many roles...got a little "mannered" later, like most actors who had their favorite tricks, but never phoned it in. And was great in supporting roles, too. Talented writer and director, too. "The Apostle" was fantastic. And his Oscar-winning role as Mac Sledge in "Tender Mercies" was an outstanding performance.

Some lesser-known Duvall movies, all highly-recommended:

Tomorrow (written by the great Horton Foote)
THX-1138 (early George Lucas)
The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid (as Jesse James)
A Family Thing (as long-lost brother of James Earl Jones)
Get Low
The Stars Fell on Henrietta
Rambling Rose
Open Range
Broken Trail

That movie is from the Book by Pat Conroy, who also wrote the Prince of Tides, The Lords of Discipline and many other great books. He was from the coast here in South Carolina. Duvall was awesome in that movie.

I got to hear Holtz speak at a coaches convention over 35 years ago....Then I heard him again at a business function. He had the ability to suck you in to his stories and an hour seemed like 5 minutes. It was easy to see why he was a successful football coach.

Wifey wanted to redo "her" bathroom, remove the big tub and move the shower to it's spot then add a towel/storage closet where the shower was so I told her to go ahead. She picked a contractor and he started on the job last week. The tile Wifey picked out was 3 times the price of what normally would go in a bathroom but I didn't say no even though I didn't really like the color. When I saw the quality of the cut tile and the grout lines he was trying to install I told Wifey that he didn't know what the hell he was doing. We had to have him redo several tiles/ reset them to make them flush. I also wasn't happy with the way he did the shower floor. It wasn't sloped right to the drain. This morning he said he was done and was ready to do a water test on the shower. It was as bad as I thought it would be. Water didn't flow completely to the drain.

long story short, he's in there right now tearing out the shower floor and redoing it. :(

Always a lesson to learn. Seems like there may be a few showers locally with poor drainage…

Sorry guys, I had not been on this web site in quite awhile.....Yes Glv, I did see the Great Santini, several times, and though it was simply great....RD was at his best....Also, the antagonist, David Keith was electric as the bully...When he shot the dogs I really got pissed off...Of course when they got him, I smiled a lot too....Also, Toomer was a scene stealer too....Hell the whole cast was outstanding....I need to see that movie again!

Well, I don’t really see a good spot to ask, so thought maybe ask here. Why did the color guard dip the US flag during the anthem before the SC/ LSU semifinal game? I had never seen the flag dipped before and wondered what was going on. It was not dipped at the final between SC/TX. Is there a reason why it was dipped Saturday? Seems impossible that anyone in a color guard could do it through ignorance of the correct flag protocol. Maybe some vets on here will know. I still miss gmule. @Rickster you have input?

Smallvol, according to different military codes, the US American Flag is never dipped at a sporting events......NEVER!!!!

I carried our company guidon in my day...Whenever we marched past dignitaries in formation, all company and platoon guidons were dipped, but "OLd Glory" stood straight, tall, and glorious.

Whomever dipped our country's flag for a damn basketball game, needs their ass kicked!

Thank you. That is what I thought (and felt) but did not want to jump on someone if there might have been an exception. I don’t know where that particular color guard came from; I did email the Bon Secours Arena and asked what was going on but have not had a response from them as yet. Soooooooo, may I place my vote for the a$$ kicking?

Saw a clip of Susanna Hoffs on YouTube yesterday. She was recently singing a song from her old group the bangles on stage with some new musicians. She is 67 now, looks like she is holding up well for someone nearly 70. In her prime during the early 80’s she was many a young man’s dream girl, myself included.

When I was a very young boy, we were in from California visiting my country cousins up in the Clinch Mountains of Tennessee....Mom had me go around to the back of the house and see the Well....I had no idea what a Well was.

When we got back there I looked down in the Well and my cousins said it was spitting today...I thought there was a Whale down there....I asked my cousin how long had the whale been down there? They said down where? I said at the bottom of this hole in the ground...

This went on for awhile...They thought I was a little touched in the head because I kept asking how did you get the whale into the bottom of this hole...They said what hole...I said this hole.

Their Hillbilly accents, and my Italian accent, really had everything all confused that day...Eventually my mother came into the backyard and gave me a Coke and said she would tell me later how the Whale got into the bottom of the hole in the yard.

My great grandparents had a well like that on their farm. They didn't have running water in the house but they did have electricity and a two seater outhouse though.

I watched Free Range a couple of days ago. I think it was my 3rd or 4th time. You could shuffle the "Top10" Duval movies listed and whichever one turned up on top would get my vote.
