Potential Starting Line up and Rotation 2019-2020

If JJJ is even somewhat as good as advertised, there is no way Jalen Johnson starts over JJJ. Jalen will be the first man off the bench. But there is no way Rick is keeping his stallion on the bench to start the game. I'm 100% certain of that.
His stallion? I’ve seen a lot of hype about Jalen this off season, am i missing something?

Barnes will know his players and adapt(as is his history). if he could win 15 games with a front court of 2 freshmen (one of which was a volleyball player) plus Kasongo, Moore and Reese, this team IN COMPARISON is a 25 game lock.
Much tougher schedule. Much tougher conference now.

Tennessee kicked off basketball practice this week, and while Rick Barnes has kept practice closed, some early buzz has filtered out about this team. As we’ve been saying for months, those we’ve spoken with close to the program don’t think that the Vols are going to take as big of a step back from last year’s 31-6 team as some on the outside may think. Now, no one is suggesting that this team is going to spend a month ranked No. 1, but there’s a quiet confidence around this squad that they’ll compete for the SEC title and head back to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year under Barnes. It’s no surprise that the thought right now is that the backcourt will be the strength of this team. Lamonte Turner is generating some big-time buzz for how he’s playing right now. Someone even suggested to us this week that Turner could challenge for the SEC Player of the Year given how he looks right now. In any event, he and Jordan Bowden could both potentially be All-SEC caliber performers and Josiah James has not disappointed.
The biggest surprise we’ve picked up during the first week of practice should come as great news to Vol fans. We’re hearing that John Fulkerson may be the most improved player on the team. That’s potentially huge news as Tennessee still awaits word on the appeal for immediate eligibility from Arizona State transfer Uros Plavsic. On that front, things are still dragging and as we wrote in this space a few weeks ago, the word is that Arizona State is being uncooperative, which is slowing the process down. Jalen Johnson has gotten some positive reviews from people we’ve spoken to, primarily as a much improved shooter and someone who should be able to contribute. Freshman Olivier Nkamoua (he’s dropped the Robinson) continues to be someone we’re hearing consistently strong reviews about.

The reports continuing to come in from VQ is giving me mixed emotions. I want to buy-in to the hype. Lord knows us Tennessee fans need something of a bright spot. But these pre-season reports are always such fluff. It's not like anyone is going to go on record saying "Wow this team is hot garbage, might as well not watch this season UT fans." However, if anyone can coach up these boys, it's Rick, and if he is competing for another SEC title with this roster, than it's just further fuel to the fire about his coaching ability which will help even more with recruiting. Can't wait for the season! We need a distraction.

As excited as I am for this b-ball team and season, I cannot trust the VQ preseason info. Just a few weeks ago they were feeling good about the football team, too.
That's fair. Just remember they watch the games just as we do. So for the most part its opinionated.. Jesse Simonton never played football but he provides valuable nuggets related to events, visits, etc... They do throw gas on the fire at times looking through their orange tinted shades

I don't disagree with you regarding VQ. However, I do think VQ has much more of a contact with Barnes and the men's basketball program than they do Pruitt and the football program.

My Starting 5 Projections:

G: Turner, Bowden, James
F: Fulkerson/Pons (Plavsic if eligible)

1st Bench: Kent, Nkamhoua, Jalen, Pons (if Plavsic is eligible/not starting)

Redshirts: Gaines & Pember (although I could see Drew getting playing time, especially if Plavsic isn't eligible)

If we even compete for the sec title rick wins coach of the year, imo.

Should win Coach of the Year if that happens. But, for the most part, a lot of these COTY awards are so subjective and you see squads with a plethora of 5-star talent winning. Like last year when Calipari was being considered for coach of the year with a roster filled with 5-star studs. Luckily, he didn't win.

Only with pride. An East Tennessee makes it big.
2 ET kids are going to ball out, Jordan Bowden will be a 2nd round NBA draft pick, just watch. JJJ balls out, Fulk improves his hands and handles while knocking down just enough mid-range shots with his hustle to average 10 and 8. ORN, my bad ON will be on enough to make the all-SEC Frosh team and UT makes back to back Sweet 16s. Then the '20 class arrives and UT wins 30 and makes a Final 4 run. I'm all in and believe UT (we) have a top 5 coach, to match his pay. Tennessee is a basketball school, now. Right, @Dallasbowlin

Oh yeah, LaMonte makes 1st team all-SEC and a run at SEC player of the year and also plays himself into a NBA draft pick.

Whoa, Fulky has gone all Snake Plissken on us!

First 4 off the bench-Fulk, JJ, Cardwell or Hall and Bailey. Elite 8 or bust, as another poster, posted. I really wanna say Final 4 or bust, but I'm reasonable.

Such a waste of natural ability if Pons is #4, behind all those young players.

If Pons wants to return to the starting lineup and not be buried in the depth chart, then he has to make huge strides and find some semblance of an offensive game. I love Pons, but he is a complete liability on the offensive end of the court. It's like playing 4v5 on that end. He can barely dribble the basketball sometimes. Hopefully, with the Big 4 gone, Barnes will be able to give some extra attention to him this offseason and he can make a big leap.
