Potential New Coach Names

Berube was at D 3 Tufts for many years and racked up an impressive record. When Banghart moved from Princeton to UNC, Berube was hired by the Tigers. She has been successful there, at an academically selective D1 mid-major. Now, after some D1 seasoning, she looks ready to rebuild a P4 team.

Think DW might note the trajectory?

A fellow can dream.

Some comments first: I'm out on Walz and Brenda. They have it made at their current schools and I see no reason they'd leave. Also I feel like they're riding on reputations that haven't quite stacked up in the last decade. Kara Lawson would be the obvious choice, but I think she's enjoying what she's building at Duke and wants to have a legacy beyond the LVs (just like Shea at Vandy). Johnston at SDSU seems to be the kind of coach who can do more with less, but not sure if he has the chops to build a team to compete in the SEC.

So my pick for this thought experiment ... Vic Schaefer at Texas, formerly of Mississippi State. $2.3 million salary from a quick Google search.

- Proven success at multiple schools, including building up programs.
- Ability to recruit.
- Abundance of experience coaching in the SEC.

On paper it makes a lot of sense to me. That said, I don't think TN could lure him away or if he'd even want to move on.
CRB ... tho I realize TX was moving on from him. But I couldn't resist.

Chris Dailey at Uconn is 66 and makes less then $500,000 per year, would she be a possibility as she has stated it would take a special place for her to leave Uconn? She could stabilize the program for a few years and then bring a younger coach aboard later when she leaves. Is she the real driver in development of the Uconn team?

CD isn't leaving UConn. She's already said that when Geno retires, she'll retire. She's had opportunities over the years to be a HC of her own program and has always turned them down because she likes being at UConn.

Ultimately, Dailey decided that she was better off staying at UConn. “The timing just didn't work for me at that point,” Dailey said. “Then it gets to a point where you really love where you are and you find fewer and fewer places that you're drawn to or that you're interested in. If I was going to leave, it had to be for a place that I felt confident that they had everything that I would need to be successful,” she added later. “A belief and a vision and a commitment. The more you know, there are fewer of those places that exist.” (source)

Besides, her salary doesn't include all of the money she gets from outside deals.

That’s funny.

Kari pickens
One of only two ncaa coaches ,with Kim mulkey, to win a championship as player , assistant coach and head coach.
219-34 record at Ashland U.
Also won 2 state championships and a final four appearance in high school. Took over at Ashland when now michigan state coach Fralick went to Bowling Green in 2018.

Respectfully, I don’t think we’re going to hire another D2 coach.

Not sayin she will be a hall of famer but she has won championships everywhere she played or coached. On the WBCA 30 under 30 yrs old upcoming coaches list. Would you have hired Pat Summit at 22 years old straight out of mtsu and made her head coach soon after when the coach quit?

I think college sports and women’s basketball have evolved since the 70s lol.

Not saying anything about that young lady, but we’re just not hiring another d2 coach when the one we have is not working out.

I think we get the picture by now. You don’t like CKC and refer to her as a D-2 coach as a derogatory reference but she did have a very successful D-1year at Marshall. She then came here and went to the Sweet Sixteen her first year.
No one is arguing that she had a bad year in 2025-6 and I don’t know what will happen to her after April 1st, but at least give her some credit for her past accomplishments after leaving D-2.
