Post Spring Offense:

Hill is a good looking prospect at RB... He's big and fast he just needs time to learn. He's a lot better than I thought coming out of high school. Props to Dooley and Co. for their evaluation on him. Smith is a downhill runner and looked good in the O&W game, but it was against back-ups mostly. He will provide depth and see action on special teams.

Bullard has the center position to lose IMO. Yes, Crowder did have a good spring and put his name into the equation, but Bullard is more physical and has been playing with the guys longer.

Both V. Dallas and Z. Rogers were disappointing this spring. They had a great opportunity to progress and get quality reps due to the overall lack of depth and did nothing to help their status like Carter did... The new guys should step in and once they become acquainted with the system and SEC football, they will be the quality depth and starting slot guys for us.

Thanks for the info. Good stuff. I hope we get the chance/have the depth to redshirt some of these young prospects (i.e. Hill, Croom, Bowles, Bourque, etc...) and I feel that would do so much for this team for the future to be able to actually not have to play freshman.

I agree it would be best if we can redshirt some of our incoming freshmen.

If our walkon WR can keep making plays and be consistent then I hope he'll see the field and keep a WR or 2 as redshirts to give them more time to learn, build up and be ready the following season when we'll really need their help.

THANKS for the excellent write up and your knowledge and I hope you'll continue getting us good info.

IMO, none of our incoming WRs will be red-shirting this year. They all bring something to the table that will get them on the field. Bowles may be the one that is most ready out of the group to play in the SEC immediately. How do you not have a select number of plays for Croom (like they did for Hunter as a freshman), when he is 6'6 and fast? He will be utilized some in our redzone packages IMO...hard to beat him for a jump ball. Lastly, Pig will definitely be utilized in the slot and the return game probably. If Cody Blanc stays at WR (which many believe he will make the switch to safety), then he could possibly redshirt, but he looked pretty good at WR in the spring, and many are raving about his athleticism. So, he will probably find the field on special teams at least. IMO no redshirts for the 2012 WR class.

Nice write up FW2. I enjoyed the read.

Some of these negavols just blow my mind. Can you imagine conversations with their children?

"Okay kids, we're going to the lake this weekend! Although the water will be cool and refreshing, there is a remote possibility that it will contain nuclear hazards, chemicals from industrial spillage, bacteria, and several other dangers. Now, everyone ready for a good time? Fasten your seatbelts! Do you kids know how many children are killed in car wrecks everyday? Some of them getting their heads chopped off? Anyway, off we go!!!"

:eek:hmy:  :ermm:

I don't think a new guy is necessarily destined for the slot. D Rogers would seem to fit well there if C Pat is the starter that emerges from the new crop for 3 WR sets.

I agree with you on the WR's. Not that it will happen, but we could use a 4 receiver set with DR & CP both 6'3", JH 6'4", and JC 6'5". Jump ball anyone?

I see JC, Blanc, and maybe Bowles red-shirting. Why use them now when you already have a player with that specific skill set. Already have JH, DR, & CP who can catch a jump ball. DR can play slot in a 3 wide set, and I see Pig playing slot also with Carter and I cant believe Im gonna say this but "Zach Rogers".

That will probably be the 4 guys that we have in if we ever need to throw a hail mary.

Wrong! JC and Bowles will definitely not red-shirt. Only way that they red-shirt is if they sustain a major injury before the 1st game. Blanc might, but I think his athleticism will put him on the field as a true freshman, at least on special teams.

I don't see any of them coming in and getting redshirts. I think Bowles is the best receiver and the one that will be able to play from day one out of all the incoming wide outs. Blanc will probably be a special teams player.

One of the best WR corps in the country? You mean the corps that has one member coming off major knee surgery and absolutely no 3rd option at the position? Your assertion is dripping with homerism..........imo

You need to take the fade route!

Even with a healthy Hunter, USC's corps is probably better, deeper. Ours won't be bad, just not the best in the country.

Deeper? Probably.....Better? No way. Big, strong and fast is what Tennessee's WR corps are. I would put Hunter and Rogers up against any other WR in the country. They are both first round NFL draft picks.

Blanc. Absolutely he will probably redshirt, but the other two are needed for depth reasons, so I do not see a redshirt for either guy this year.

Here has been my issue with our RB's for a while. We get a helmet on a helmet across the line of scrimmage and our back is 2 yards up the field when a safety or LB fills the hole. Now here's the rub. If the RB gets stood up and driven back its 2nd and 8. If he slides and falls/dives forward its 2nd and 6. Those 2 yards are the difference in having a viable running game and being a one dimensional offense. I'm not saying our OL has been good at run blocking, far from it; but you have to get those tough extra two yards more often than not and we just haven't won that battle with our RB's. He had his issues with ball securement but A. Foster was the last RB we had that could do this with regularity.

What GAVol said, no idea why you're being so unnecessarily aggressive when he clearly said IF and COULD. National FB analysts last year said the same thing about the potential concerning Hunter and Rogers if they ever put a full season together at full health.

Of course it would help if our RB fell forward instead of back, but our O-line hasn't been opening holes with regularity either of the last two seasons. They often miss assignments and if you watch and look for it you'll notice someone messing up on almost every play. That isn't conducive for a productive running attack... I think we are finally going to be able to win battles at the line of scrimmage and work as a unit for the first time in two years, and Jay Graham and his knowledge will help our rushing be more productive this season.

Also after Hunter went down, we lost our deep threat. Losing Hunter allowed defenses to be able to play closer to the line of scrimmage. With not only Hunter, but Rogers has gotten faster it seems, and CP will be a deep threat when he gets to campus which will help take pressure and focus off of our running game.

Do you see DR playing in the slot at all? If CP makes the impact he is supposed to I'd love to see him and Hunter on the outside with DR in the slot... there isn't a LB in the country who could cover him
