It was only two years ago that Croom was our best red zone receiver. Could/should have been used more, but I thought Jason did a fine job as a red zone receiver. Who knows what he could have done last year had he not been injured.

I was talking more specifically about our seeming unwillingness to want to utilize our big WRs the way we saw our guys throw it up to George on Saturday. We've had big guys at WR for 3 years now between North, Malone, Pearson and even Wolf at TE. It just seems to me that we haven't utilized them much in the redzone at all, could be wrong, but that's my general perception.

As far as Croom in 2014, he caught 4 tds....1 was a 23 yarder vs Georgia that, while not technically in the redzone, did fall into the "throw it up and let our big guy go get it" category. The only other successful similar type TD throw and catch to Croom in the redzone was vs Mizzou.....his other 2 were the little pitch and catch vs SCar where Dobbs rolled to his right and Croom was wide open at the goal line with no DB near him and the 52 yd screen where Croom outran Ky's Dbs to the endzone.

I guess what I'm saying is that while I agree that Croom was probably our best redzone WR 2 years ago, he and the others just weren't used enough despite what appeared to be a pretty big size advantage in every game we played.....and I hope we consider utilizing our big guys (Croom, Wolf, Malone, PWill, Jennings, George) much more frequently this year.

One thing I thought was interesting about Croom and Eli Wolf in the spring game though was that they were often used differently than Ethan Wolf, Jakob, and Creamer. Corrm and Eli were lined up in the slot a lot. Ethan, Jakob, and Creamer more often lined up the way we've seen TEs lined up since Butch came to town.

Is Eli still a walk-on?

I dont think so, not yet. Just a matter of time.

I thought I read it from another thread. Maybe one of Freaks threads he posts on here. Like I said, I could be wrong but I could have sworn I seen that posted. If he hasn't it's coming soon enough though.

I dont know why the kid didn't have more offers, he's an amazing talent, and even his brother
says Eli is a better athlete.

I would add to this, he hates contact, wears roller skates instead of cleats and just is not strong enough. He would not be a backup for any other team in the SEC.

Where do you guys come up with this crap?

We've recruited some strong LB talent the past couple years like Smith, Sapp, Bates, McDowell, Bryant, Berry, and Bynum who are all competing with Jumper for the current back up roles behind Maybin and Kirkland. Jancek and now Shoop both appeared to believe in Jumper enough to play him, yet you guys have declared him the worst player in the history of UT football? If you truly believe this, then isn't Shoop the worst talent evaluator in UT football history also? Obviously not, as the top programs in the country want him as a coach.

Be warned, I've heard about all of this I can take. If your sitting near me at a UT game this fall and Jumper takes the field and you start ragging on him then I'm going to quietly punch you in the mouth. No athlete representing UT deserves this type of disrespect. Mr. Jumper appears to have earned the respect of his coaching staff - maybe you raggers should follow their lead.

I can appreciate you sticking up for one of our players. No UT player who has stayed out of trouble should be bashed on VN. You are right. All I will say about his ability is that he has clearly shown the staff a level of potential in practice that he hasn't shown yet in games. Still, he should not be bashed on VN. It just looks bad - not for him but for this forum.

Keyboard warrior coming through

I'm no keyboard warrior and my posting history here reflects that.

It's all these keyboard critics who feel empowered to be so personally insulting to a member of the UT athletic family who's done nothing except walk on to the football program and try to chase his dream. Well I'm certainly no warrior, keyboard or otherwise, but I've decided to take a stand for what is right. I don't know Mr. Jumper, but I'm willing to pay the bail for the privilege to jack one of you cowards in the mouth! If you're brave enough to spout your crap at a game, I'd like to believe I'm not the only person who's willing to do so. I'd love to see a whole group of real UT fans give one of you types a beat down at a game.

I'm just waiting to read the headline UT fan arrested for assaulting a fellow Vol fan. "I just couldn't stand there and let another fan say bad things about one of our players". That sounds like a Bama headline, but I guess winning brings out the more invested fans. At the end of the day it's just a game. How bout this, if you see someone walk up to Jumper before or after a game and yell at him then step in an do something, those guys are jerks.

Eli's coming

If the plan is to start using pass catching TEs in the slot more often (we haven't seen that too much in the past), then it definitely makes me like his chances of getting playing time more.

He still needs some time in the weight room if the plan is to use him like his big brother though.

I get that Jumper was in over his head in 2015. But players can mature and improve. Foreman looked like a completely different player in the latte half of his Jr year than he did at any previous point. After 2014, who saw Kerbyson becoming an All-SEC LT? Sometimes it takes a while for the light to come on.

I'm not ready to assume that Jumper will never be able to contribute for us (especially if we're able to work a RS in for him this year or next).

I think a lot of the Jumper hate comes from people seeing that Kirkland was the better talent and the team played better when he was in, even from game 1, but Jumper still started over him. Then it came out that the company that Jumper's dad is the president or CEO of became one of the top donors to the athletic dept last year. It looked really fishy

Gotcha. My hope is that there was just too many things to fix. Now that they have other things in line, they can work on the passing/receiving game. We don't even have to be much of a deep threat. If we can work the mid-range routes and more specifically the middle of the field....our offense will be amazing. If we can also add the deep routes...our offense will be pretty much unstoppable.

So in 2015, CBJ was paid $3,600,000 to service as coach / CEO of the UT football program which generated over $56 mil in revenue. How much does it take to buy a player onto the field? I don't know how much the elder Jumper may have or have not donated, but he's no Pilot Oil type donor.

If I've got a sweet gig making $3.6 mil a year, there's no way in hades I'm not putting the players on the field that give me the best chance to win thus allowing me to keep the sweet gig. I doubt CBJ got to his current position by taking stupid risks or being bought off by a donors. This isn't your local HS where some donor Dad remodels the locker room and his son becomes the starting QB. Do you realize just how outlandish this theory is to a reasonable thinking person?

Twist it anyway you please. I don't know Colton nor his dad, but I'm from Chattanooga and have children that went to the same HS so maybe it becomes a bit more personal to me when these cowards get on this forum and start trashing these young men in a personal manner. Either way, I'm fairly old and have never been arrested. Its sort of on my bucket list and I cant think of a whole lot more satisfying non-heinous crime to commit. :good!:

Sorry if already discussed, but is there any word on how close the competition is between Medley and Lazlo (sp?) ? I have a bad feeling kicking game is going to bite us bad again this year.
