Posssible Replacements for Coach Pearl

I don't think CBP will get a 2 year ban, more likely a year. I think he will get consideration for penalities that have already been put in place. Now what happens then? Maybe they name CTJ coach until Pearl is reinstated...just a thought.

Didn't Jones' name appear numerous times on that report as well? If Pearl goes-they all go. I've been hopeful this would all blow over, but it's really not looking to good at the moment. If they cut their losses and make a move before June (presumably in March) that might even help with what the NCAA comes with as far as penalties-assuming they levy Pearl with the worst of it like it appears they will do with Kiffin.

This just seems to have gotten to the point in the relationship where too many things have happened/been said, and it's just time to find a new mate.

Possible replacements.... Buzz Peterson, Jerry green, Kevin O'Neill, Wade Houston, Don DeVoe,.........No thanks guys I would rather take my lumps with an interim instead to buy time till Pearl can come back. Our past haunts us, I for one have went to about every game dating back inside Stokely (yes even when we were ATROCIOUS! Consistently me and my father who owns the tickets a couple out of 2,000 at games was not fun and I don't want it to get back to that. I will always support this program but Pearl has risen this to a basketball power. Our former coaches is what we will be returning to if we don't retain Pearl.

I love Pearl. I have not had anything negative to say about him until the NCAA junk. But it is in his best interest to leave. If he leaves, he will more than likely get a 2 year show cause penalty. If he stays the NCAA will make an example of him and the Vols with a 5 year or more show cause penalty. Of the 20 coaches who have been hit with an unethical conduct charge, the one closest to Pearl as to the crime committed is Kelvin Sampson.

Kelvin make extra phone calls- second time he was caught doing this and he lied to ncaa- 5 year show cause penalty

Bruce-illegal contact with Jr prospects -second time he was caught doing this and he lied to ncaa + made extra phone calls- He will more than likely get a 5 year show cause penalty-

Listen I wish it could all go away and that Coach Pearl could continue to coach. But smell the Coffee, it aint going to happen!!!

I don't think What Pearle did ranks with the guys that have had show-cause before. He lied about a barbque and then did actually admit his lie.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show-cause_penalty_(NCAA)

I agree with you on this. Most all of the show cause orders were for financial reasons. Pearl and Tennessee did not benefit from the original violations. The NCAA is
not consistant on their punishments. Calhoun of UConn
got over 2000 text messages and phone calls from the
sports agent trying to land a recruit and swore he did not know that violations were being committed. Yeah right. lol. The NCAA only punishes schools that are becoming a threat to the bluebloods.

The AA is a joke with some silly rules. However, you are mad at the wrong people here. Pearl knew that the cookout was a minor deal, but he did major things to cover for it. All that will show the AA is that there is more. A stupid rule is still a rule. I see some stop signs in uneccessary places, but I still stop. Even if a car isn't in eyesight and it is rediculous, I still stop. An officer won't let me off because "there shouldn't be a sign there". What makes Pearl look so bad is that he reacted like this to a minor thing, oit indicates that there was more to hide. If the NCAA were to let him off light, they would have a hard time conducting investigations in the future. If the NCAA can make a lesson out of Pearl and Kiffin and prevent coaches in the future from skirting rules, they will do it.

Like they did with Calhoun.

Because Doug Dickey is still AD, right? Google Gregg Marshall who is likely worst case scenario. Proven coach, not an "up and comer".Look up Mike Anderson, Randy Bennett. Your argument doesn't wash because we no longer have an AD who is blatantly anti-bball. What you fail to list is some coaches UT could have hired in those days. Suich as Kevin Stallings. Not too bad. Jerry Green's stats aren't much diff from Pearl's. Buzz brought in the nuclues of the talent Pearl had for his first years.

I know nobody wants to go this route, but we may be needing to look at successful assistants. Y'all can see from my icons that I'm also a UNC fan. The scouting duties for upcoming opponents rotate among the assistants. During the 08-09 championship year (and the beginning of the 09-10 year), Carolina played a good Michigan State team three times. Assistant CB McGrath had the scouting duties all three times and we absolutely killed them every time. I say look at some assistants that have shown this kind of success.

Young Coaches on the rise What it would take to get them

Travis Ford -OSU 2.5 Million

Anthony Grant-BAMA 3.0 Million

Buzz Williams-Marquette 2.0 Million

Brad Stevens- Butler 2.0 Million

Scott Drew- Baylor 2.0 Million

Big announcement by UT today. Hatvol to be named new head coach if Pearl is fired!

Mike Hamilton has to go first, hire a new AD then let him hire a new basketball coach (which would hopefully be Mike Anderson, if there would be any possibility of getting Brad Stevens to leave Butler)

It was a Go Vols Xtra poll and over 3000 fans voting is a pretty significant representation.I know its not what the haters voted and I'm sure they added their vote with all the effort they're making on volnation to fire Pearl.I would say the yeas far outweigh nays

Yes it is, but doesnt even begin to show how much the haters are in the minority. Im not saying all who voted nay are haters, Im just sayin you know the ones who hated Pearl before all this voted nay. Thing is, by far most people on here are positive people, support Pearl, DD, and hate Kiffin. However, when reading on here you can see they are the minority, but dont realize just how much because they make the most noise. As is always the case with complainers.

It's not a scientific poll. Totally meaningless.

Totally meaningful!

Your right but many of the consistent negative Pearl posters hate him and its obvious in the venom they spew with personal attacks. This was on here long before the allegations

Yup!

Nothing said here is accurate. This is all assumption. Nothing more than a personal opinion. Neither you nor I have an idea what the NCAA will do. There has never been a situation with this harsh of self-imposed punishments and conference-set punishments. Past unethical conduct charges have been in situations much worse than Pearls (payments, gifts, etc.). There is a legitimate chance Pearl will stay, and based on UT's actions, it is doing everything it can to keep him.

Do you believe in bigfoot? It has not been absolutely proven that Bigfoot does not exist. Wake up guys. The NCAA is going to make an example of Bruce Pearl. He lied, He tried to cover it up with phone calls. He said he was sorry with tears. Four days later he broke another NCAA rule.

Back to the original question...there are numerous other threads debating whether or not Pearl should be gone...if/when Pearl goes would we not want to look at Mark Turgeon from Texas A&M? Suprised that 8 pages in his name hasn't popped up.

I do like the Gregg Marshall thought too, he has done an impressive job getting Wichita in the Tournament the past several years.

Thoughts?

Do you have a source inside the AA that tells you they are making an example out of Pearl? Or are you just making assumptions off of what other people/posters have said?

Case and point. Nothing more than an assumption. Please explain how you know the NCAA will make an example of Pearl.

Regardless of our personal convictions on what we want UT to do about Pearl, it is becoming even more obvious UT is not going to replace him, and is even willing to let him miss a year to do so. It's time to be supportive of the school and move on from the constant bickering over the subject.

wow you guys are the ones i would like to be with me in a foxhole under fire (( not )) you all are ready to cast the first stone at CBP shame on you
