Possible OC Candidates

UT Football coaching news

Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) -- And so the search is on for a new Offensive Coordinator at Tennessee.
As we told you Thursday, Coach Butch Jones has an interest
in veteran coach Mike Debord. In fact, Debord may be
meeting with Butch as early as this weekend.
Now, Mike Bajakian may not be the only staffer moving on.
UT wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Zach Azzani is a candidate for the suddenly vacant central michigan head
coaching job...
Azzani we are told has yet to interview for the position and won't until he has a chance to speak with Coach Jones this weekend...
we're hearing the Chippewas are also gauging interest from
UT defensive coordinator John Jancek...
obviously they like what these
UT coaches are doing here in Knoxville...

There is one positive in all this. You know something is going right when your coaches are being approached for other jobs.

I'm not going to reveal much here but I heard one potential coach is in a plane circling Knoxville right now... And another (whom happens to own land in Sevierville) was seen golfing with Butch and watching video of vol games. Just saying

Yup... Lovie's at it again.

Where's Casey Clausen? He still coaching HS? He would do good with a qb, and maybe he could run an offense. Plus, he's a young man still. No worse than some if the other names I've seen. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in college one day.

With Mike Debord already coming here for a few hours and leaving, i think you interview someone from AZ then TCU..then make a decision.

Yeah...I know it will be a tough pull, but if I am CBJ, I am making a run at TCU's Meachem. I was really impressed how their offense laid the wood to a stout Ole Miss defense.

No. I am the same guy who thought you were ridiculous to unfairly criticize the coaching staff after only a couple of years and massively extenuating circumstances. This is entirely different.

You are right. I questioned progress based on things they had actually done both good and bad. No condemnation and really only "criticism" in the benign sense. You are condemning what you think would be the wrong choice before that potential choice had any results whatsoever.

I never "jumped off the Butch train". He's always had my support. I never said he would fail or that any of the setbacks were sure to cause him to fail. Here you have openly suggested that if he chooses a OC that you don't approve of then he's too stupid to coach UT.

Gran is another guy with potential but iirc there were some hushed rumors of "issues" while he was at UT previously.

I like the sound of Magee but confess that I am really warming up to the idea of promoting Azzani.

One year at OC and not a QB coach. Our WR have underachieved with him. He has been a great RC though.

Magee makes the most sense out of all the candidates.

Still think tony Franklin is the best fit!
Great offensive numbers, incredible recruiter, known prowess developing qb's

I could see the reason Auburn was the lone bad spot on his resume due to Tommy Tuberville not letting him have control of offense. Everywhere else he has done well.

Different style offense. Magee would be the best fit.

Franklin coaches the spread, it's not like he uses the power I. And he was an sec top 10 recruiter and a qb developer who had three qb's under his tutiledge who led the sec in passing.
Far better upside!!!
Although I'd take cumbie, Franklin, Magee, frost and about 10 others before being deboned!
