Possible OC Candidates

And does anybody really think Tee Martin is ready to be an good SEC OC? I don't. We need somebody with some chops. When this program was at its best, we had David Cutcliffe running the offense--a guy with big-time expertise. Please don't hire somebody who hasn't already been a proven OC.

Quarles is a good high school coach against below average high school competition, but come on. He is no way in hell ready for a SEC OC job.. This has to be a joke.

My opinion:

Per Rocky Top Insider for possible OC:
Don't kill me for this. Just posting the list

Mike Debord (former Michigan OC) QUALIFIED

Eddie Gran (Cincinnati OC) QUALIFIED

Herb Hand (Penn State OC) QUALIFIED

T.J. Weist (UConn HC) NO THANKS

Calvin Magee (Arizona RB/Co OC) NOT QUALIFIED

Matt LaFleur (Notre Dame QB coach) NOT QUALIFIED

Tee Martin (Cal WR coach) NOT QUALIFIED

George Quarles (Maryville HC) NOT QUALIFIED

Need to add the TCU coach.

eddie gran would a disaster, ncaa would be knocking on our door constantly. no thanks.

Gran has a clean reputation...he left Kiffin's staff here likkity split after the season, because of the dirt from the HC.

Are you the same guy who attacked me for criticizing things that had already failed?

No. I am the same guy who thought you were ridiculous to unfairly criticize the coaching staff after only a couple of years and massively extenuating circumstances. This is entirely different.

This list is totally different than VQ, and much worse than VQ

In other words, any lists floating around are complete speculation, and judging Jones or Hart on the content of the list is fantastically dumb.

Maybe if for once UT has genuine interviews with a LOT of candidates, we could consider that a list.

I'd like to see Eddie Gran get the job. They're still running a similar offense up in Cincinnati and he is a really good recruiter.

Magee would be an absolute home run, but he's been with Rich rod for years and I doubt he leaves.

I don't think he's the right choice, but I think it would be funny if Herb Hand left James Franklin's staff to come to Tennessee

I'm not going to reveal much here but I heard one potential coach is in a plane circling Knoxville right now... And another (whom happens to own land in Sevierville) was seen golfing with Butch and watching video of vol games. Just saying

VOLQUEST: When we sat in your office earlier this month the week after the Taxslayer Bowl win, you showed us a journal you keep in your desk containing coaching contacts and persons of interest to you in the coaching ranks. Is that for situations like this? How prepared do you feel for this major search?

BUTCH JONES:
I do keep a journal that I update monthly with what I feel are coaches who could potentially be great fits for Tennessee football for our staff moving forward, from coordinators to position coaches. I constantly evaluate that, and I've relied heavily on that journal.

Anyone had a peek?

What's wrong with revealing names? Is that some sort of hiring violation?

UT Football coaching news

Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) -- And so the search is on for a new Offensive Coordinator at Tennessee.
As we told you Thursday, Coach Butch Jones has an interest
in veteran coach Mike Debord. In fact, Debord may be
meeting with Butch as early as this weekend.
Now, Mike Bajakian may not be the only staffer moving on.
UT wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Zach Azzani is a candidate for the suddenly vacant central michigan head
coaching job...
Azzani we are told has yet to interview for the position and won't until he has a chance to speak with Coach Jones this weekend...
we're hearing the Chippewas are also gauging interest from
UT defensive coordinator John Jancek...
obviously they like what these
UT coaches are doing here in Knoxville...
